I can't believe I'm about to say this, but if Kaman and Zaza are our best options...

I hope Dwight resigns with LA and amnesty Pau.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe in the new CBA LA cant do that trade because over the cap teams can't do S&T. So basically for LA, it's Howard re-signs or he bolts, no other options.

I read somewhere teams over the cap and/or luxury tax can do S&T's, but the receiving team has to receive have so much cap room and that somehow plays into the difference of incoming/outgoing salaries. But everyone seems to be so confused by the new CBA that I haven't really tried to follow it. They've made it so much more complex than it needs to be.

You know, if getting the C of our dreams doesn't work (Asik or Jordan or something for nothing), then I'm intrigued by the following backup plan.

We could just roll with a Leonard/Withey/Jermaine or K-Mart (at vet minimum) C rotation and use our cap space to get Webster (~3-5M) , Livingston or Augustine (near vet minimum) and Blair (2-4M). Webster is turning into (like Wes) one of the premier 3-and-D guys in the league, and is good insurance in case Nic or Wes gets banged up again. Blair isn't an all-star, but he's good for what he does (a cheaper Hickson?). A pure, backup PG shouldn't be horribly difficult to find to take the vet min or room exception.

Lillard/Wes/Batum/LMA/Center platoon with CJ, Webster, Blair, Augustine Claver, rest of C platoon

That's a decent amount of firepower, decent amount of young vets, good amount of role players with various skills, good trade chips, not a lot of injury history (other than Webster's back, which didn't give him a problem last year). You basically (by substituting one of the C's or Blair in for Hickson) have the same lineup as last year, one year better, and a supremely improved bench. And if you do get to trade LMA or somehow end up needing to trade, you have lots of good, useful pieces on good, useful contracts that shouldn't bog down the team going forward.

You can go big, small, defensive, 3-point bombing, "scrappy", etc. Obviously C is still the weakness.

Edit: Totally forgot we just got Robinson. Blair is probably redundant. ;)

I just think two teams over luxury cap definitely can't and the receiving team can't ever if they are in luxury tax.

But wouldn't that just get us to a 7th-8th seed at best? That would probably mean Aldridge wouldn't want to resign. Wouldn't the better option be just trading Aldridge for draft picks and a young up and coming? Then at least we can play for the wiggins sweepstakes.

The L*kers can't receive a player in S&T, b/c they're over the apron. So for instance, they can't S&T Dwight for, say, a S&T'd Josh Smith--unless after the trade they're below the apron (they wouldn't be). But AFAIK they can trade a S&T'd Dwight for, say, Asik or LMA or someone who's already under contract, as long as it meets with the CBA guidelines.

I find myself hoping Howard stays in LAL Land, because with their salary and the aging Kome and Pau, I don't think they are a serious contender. OTOH: If they lose Howard, dump Pao, and rehab Kome, their rebuild is going to take them exactly one year. And that would suck.

Houston's reason to agree to that would be as a favor to Howard, to ensure he gets a bigger contract. But they could sell him on the idea that if they just sign him, they can surround him with better talent.
Reason why LA might not want Asik: they want to maximize cap room for the incredible 2014 FA group.

LA might want Asik for his trade value.

But, other than that, I think LA has no interest in Lin or Asik. Not Hollywood enough.

If they lose Howard, I think they tank 2014. Move Gasol. Bring Kobe back very slowly. Trot out a team of meh and "Hall-of-Famers" Nash and Kobe that plays not to get hurt. Lose a ton of games, and probably win the fucking lottery. As well as have some cap room for the 2014 free agent class.

Apparently the Thunder are looking at Dorell Wright.

That Harden trade was awful.

Cross Iggy off.

Denver Nuggets free-agent forward Andre Iguodala has a long day of meetings scheduled in Los Angeles on Monday. He's expected to speak with the Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Detroit Pistons and Atlanta Hawks, a source told Yahoo! Sports.

I like Igoudala a lot as a player. His all around game is exciting to me.

However, he will be paid a LOT of money to play that super-deluxe glue guy role; we already have a highly compensated 3 and don't need 2 of them; and his lack of outside shooting is a problem at his position. He also can't reliably hit free throws anymore. Once was at 80%, now can't crack 60%.

We need shooters on this team.

We want LaMarcus to post up more and roll more than he has. We are looking to get a paint defender and rebounder. With those two on the team, they need to be surrounded by guys that can shoot over the top.

If the team is looking to get a wing defender, I prefer a Bruce Bowen / Danny Green type who knocks down open threes. And if we can't get that, I prefer Tony Allen as cheaper alternative to Iggy.

For all you guys crapping your pants the second a player is linked to Portland, here is some reality check from Quick.

Jason Quick @jwquick
Keep in mind, there's a big difference between inquiring about a free agent and signing one. Blazers are likely doing their due diligence

They went from being a decade long dynasty to an early 90's Jazz type of team in a few months.

This is my nightmare and my expectation.

Which is why I hope Howard stays.

Howard and LA deserve each other.

It's a work in progress right? That isn't the opening day roster.

But, we still need a good, veteran center who rebounds and defends: 25mpg if we keep Leonard and Withey, 30+mpg if we ship out Leonard.

PF is good.

At SF, we could use a wing stopper bigger than Matthews.

SG is good.

PG we need a solid vet backup. McCollum looks to me like a combo guard. He turns the ball over and I don't think he will be ready to run the bench this season if ever. I see him as a shooter in the 3-guard lineups. And Lillard is a bad defender. So the vet we bring in should first and foremost be a solid defender. After that, it would be nice if they were a decent set-up and dish guy to help develop all these damn young players.

According to @jadande, Dwight Howard has already spoken on the phone with Jack Nicholson about remaining with the Lakers

Clowntown, lot's of smoke and mirrors and no actual substance to keep him. Offering him a show and talking to celebrities?

First free agent signing.

CJ Watson has signed with Pacers.

Neil Olshey's biggest move in the Thomas Robinson deal being overlooked, #Blazers monitoring Rockets C Omer Asik csnnw.com/blog/blazers-t…

One source who is tuned-in with how things could develop, tells CSNNW.com that the Trail Blazers are in the Rockets' good graces, and that could have an influence on where they choose to ship Asik when it's time to do so.

Wow I didn't even think about this!

If Portland does get the green light from Houston, don't be surprised if free agent JJ Hickson agrees to a sign-and-trade to get the deal done. If that's out of the question, there are other ways Portland could make it happen.

Hickson, Howard, Lin, Harden and JJ Hickson? YIKES!

This toying with my hopes and dreams is just cruel.

Something interesting to watch in summer league: Orlando's Victor Oladipo getting major run at PG - in mold of young Russell Westbrook.

So they wouldn't want Leonard+Wes?

Shit, it gets even better. I'd trade those two if I had to, but Wes is one of my favorites and obviously a good fit here.

If Houston gets Howard, a Hickson S&T for Asik seems to make too much sense for both teams not to happen, doesn't it?

Yup yup. That was one of my first thoughts. This deal could have a little "wink" in it for us. Since we helped you land Dwight or at least try to, if you do, you can help us by giving us Asik.
