Sounds like a deal.:lol:

I would be pissed if I'm a Jazz fan. Kills any chance of getting something productive at the trade deadline, and all they have to show for it is a late first.

Has to be someone. That's an awful trade for UTA if not. I can't believe some of you here are rationalizing that.

You save the cap space for the following season. Better talent available and less competition.

better than the direction they were going. Guys like Al Jefferson or Derrick Favors or Gordon Hayward aren't going to get it done, they need to swing for the fences and try to get a good draft pick. You'll only succeed by getting allstars, and since no one was coming they have to go and get it through the draft.

So.... again! like I said, they could have saved the capspace they have now for next season! No need to pay 20 mil for a season of services from players that won't get off the bench.
 
Are the Jazz really in tank mode? They have enough talent on their roster where they are not going to be in the bottom 10.

They also got Brandon Rush.

Also they are reporting the Warriors are not out of the DW sweepstakes.

With how the warriors (should) do next year, they're looking at a 20+ pick, not a lotto pick. So, eh.

No way they got Barnes.

Deal is Rush, Biedrins, Jefferson for cap.

Utah had to meet minimum cap requirements....still awful deal. So much more they could have done.

Uh, they are saving their 2014 cap space. These are expiring contracts. They had 30M in space. They weren't getting any premier free agents, so they traded 20M of it away for a first (and whatever else they're getting). They're required to spend 90% of the cap (or else they'll get penalized for it), so they might as well take 20M in contracts that won't go past this (2013-14) year, while still maintaining space to do lopsided trades throughout the year. They'll get all that space back in time for next year's FA class.

I don't see the problem here...

BTW 2014 cap space is pretty overrated. Aside from the top tier free agents, the talent pool is worse than this summer.

Did not know this. This at least makes sense. The idea that they were just taking on 20 mil for a ~20s pick doesn't. THanks!

yeah, but teams will want to clear space chasing the free agents so they'll unload guys for pennies on the dollar.

Warriors still a player for Dwight and now they have Iggy they can give up Barnes or Thompson. Probably made Dwight like them more. If they DO do a S&T of Bogut + Barnes for Howard they will officially win the offseason, no matter what anyone else does.
 
Now we need to swoop in and offer to take Hayward and Derrick Favors off of their hands for LMA.

They sounded like they wanted to all summer. They should still have money to squeeze him in. Don't know why getting Iggy would change that. Doesn't play the same position or anything.
