JUCO transfers at LB last minute, and 3 star guys after we struck out on everyone else is not much consolation here. Our program is to good to be recruited this poorly on the D line and LB spots. I mean wasn't Pellum a LB coach for like 20 years? So none in the pipeline after all that? Come on! I will say Neal is killing it and has every year! Unlike Mariota, we knew he was the goods and just massively underrated, these last two week guys discussed now are alternates of the alternates, hardly the same!

As for Canton he's a top tier DE not a NG or DT where morons from Bleachers think he'll end up playing for us!

I hope Kane can raises some Kane at the LB and maybe they'll let Hollins play there too, cause that kid can flat out fly!

You know I'm not impressed with Aiken or Pellum as recruiters or as coaches and I wonder how many years you'll give them till you might also think the same? Bend don't break has cost us 2 championships and a soft national label!
 
We only have one DT/NT position spot to recruit for, and it wasn't a priority. We offered a slew of 5 stars, none were interested so we settled on Manu. Balducci has been acceptable but not great. We can't even build off of Kiko with our LB recruiting apparently and have missed out on 20 targets, more worrying was the the mostly shit play this year from them.

Pellum obviously has more on his plate and needs to dedicate his position recruiting to someone else. Aiken has been making big bucks, next year is the priority year we'll see if he can do anything.

I agree STOMP, and for the record our defense was not responsible for that loss. Anyone who thinks that really doesn't understand the game.

Our WRs dropped several key passes on third downs and left the D hung out to dry. By the fourth they had simply been on the field too long and ran out of gas. It was exactly what happened to Bama. It really sucked, to be sure, and OSU fans are just terrible people to boot, but with our D and Marcus we beat them 7/10 times. We blew the game and it was on our WRs, who dropped too many balls; if you want to cry that's what you should be crying about. I mean, wtf? Our D forced 4 turnovers!!!! SMH.

On another note, I ran into some Hawaiians in the airport in Dallas on the way back from the natty. They told me that Rex Manu is the real deal, that THEY think he's better than Canton K, and that we weren't going to get ground down like that once he was in the lineup because, it seems, he's a freakish athlete and a monster in the middle.

many months back Murray was my biggest QB hope, but that hope is gone. Of course he's been tweaking the A&M fan base with UT flirtations lately (rumors are that his famous UTAM alum father may have been hired as a QB consultant), but there has been no indication via social media or otherwise that KM has been in contact with Oregon lately. Probably just ESPN and the O being tabloids passing this baseless stuff along to get hits from the rabid Duck fans

I have issue with only three coaches Pellum, Aiken and one who got retired Aliotti, all on the defensive side of the ball. All of them have major problems recruiting, and who they are recruiting only reinforces their schematic flaws found in that D 3-4 flex prevent they like to pass off as a D. Please understand, if we had Lockie this this year and not Marcus our defense would have been exposed. Our defense looked better then they were because teams got behind so quickly to our offense they had to make poor decisions to get back in the game and our D capitalized on that. OSU did not have to play from behind and opportunistic turned into beaten down.

I will say the second half of the season was a night and day difference on the D line but that had more to do with Buck, AA and Balducci's talent then Aiken's coaching.

Pellum is going to be in way over his head next year and will be exposed without the cushion Marcus and the offense provided him this year. Oregon is going to see a bunch of slow methodical drives next year in between the tackles where clock management for the other team will be paramount and tiring our D will be key! So this is exactly where recruiting comes in, because now when we're running in our hockey tempo pace subs we don't have the talent we need to match the athletes USC, MSU, or any top 10 schools will throw our way. That's where you see the gouging runs that Elliott did to us all game long. Buck and AA were tired and Balducii was getting run over. Thus why getting DT's is sooooooo important!

Now you can say "Waaaaaaaay" or whatever child like words that seem amazingly odd for a middle aged guy like you to use, but it still wont change our depth or the perception that Oregon can be run over between the tackles. That's Pellum's and Aiken's job to correct and they like Aliotti have proven to be the wrong recruiters for that job. Now if those FACTS bother you, who cares!

No one is blaming the D for losing that game, OSU controlled the clock and Marcus was without 60% of his go to receivers and down field speed. Their secondary jammed us and took the passing game away, leaving a stacked box to attack the run.

It was Stanford all over again!
 
Apparently our superise official is for Unranked DT Gary Baker, and are poised to steal him away from his other offered schools of, San diego state, new mexica, fresno state, and utah state. He has flashes in his tape, but honestly who doesn't in a highlight reel. We just won the Rose bowl, and made it to the championship, and i am un- enthusiastic about this in general considering the need we'll have after balducci leaves soon.
 
All the best DTs are in SoCali, Texas, or southeast(Khalil McKenzie was a gimme for Tennessee given family ties). They wanna stick close to home(which blows) due to that they're good long distance runners and those schools usually have been recruiting them since their sophmore year. Oregon is going after some 2017 elite Utah D-linemen, so that can change. Also, Aiken just had his best year yet on the D-line.

Also, Fotu Leiato has committed to Oregon.
 
Oregon mods flipping their Folau picks to the beavs, Neal may have eliminated oregon as well.
 
Aiken had his best year? Really? Do explain? He didn't recruit any of those guys on this current D line and AA played his best just in time to go pro which was the last half of this year. How much of that do you think is Aiken's doing vs. pure talent? Please realize he's being paid more as a D line coach than Pellum is as the D coordinator or Neal is as the secondary coach or Frost is as the offensive coordinator yet all the above kick his ass in recruiting.

Aiken has recruited to date Canton, Carlberg, Manu, Maloata, Jelks and Hollins... 6 players, 1 5 star, and the rest 3 in two years. This is a man with an NFL D line background, you'd think top D lineman would love to learn from his next level experience. So next you're going to say distance right? Well Neville Gallimore is from Canada going to Oklahoma, Josh Sweat from Virginia to FSU, I'd say Oregon is a bit better then those programs so clearly recruiting matters and who's doing it! Beckner Jr. in Missouri same state as Ofodile didn't even want to visit skipping us for a new LSU D coordinator a job Pellum didn't get a second call back for! Dillan Mack who's a beast expressed interest and never heard from us, have to say that's a ton of talent not counting Green, South, Daniel to whiff on. This while winning the Pac -12 the Rose Bowl and the Heisman and playing for the national championship.

I truly believe the reason Canton is here and early is the coaching staff told him AA was going pro and he'd get to play instantly.

If this defense ranks over 100 worst next year and Oregon loses over 3 games, this conversation wont matter, both these coaches will be gone. Personally I think this is the best thing that could happen for Oregon. Our offensive genius should no longer overshadow our defensive ineptness!

A&M and Auburn have both hired new defensive coordinators and recruiting studs to go along with their high octane spread offenses, so should Oregon. Pellum nor Aiken will make Oregon elite on that side of the ball!


And yes this all starts with recruiting and having depth! Anybody think if we lost Buckner to injury our D line would survive next year? What if we lost Buckner and Balducci like we lost Fisher and Johnstone this year? Greatwood recruits and we survive just look at this class as an example. No one can say the same on the D.

Think good D coaches don't provide kick ass recruits, wait for Cowart and Jefferson both to go to Auburn to reconnect with Muschamp. The Oregon of the SEC!

LOLOLOLOLOLOL did you just use the example of Sweat going from Chesapeake VA to Tallahassee FL as an example of distance? That's like 775 miles or an hour and a half plane ride.
 
And yes many of us wish UO could recruit like FSU DLine coach did. We all looooooong for our DLine to play the way FSU did :lol:

And please please please please let's Model the way aTm runs their program. "Superior" recruiting classes with consistent 3 to 4 loss seasons won't cause bitch fests in here haha!
 
Ps... Tui Talia was also 4* on rivals... But don't let facts get in the way of a good rant ;)
 
Oh oh this is fun too... John Neal (who is a hell of a coach) has pulled exactly one 4* player in the last 3 classes (yep I even gave him the benefit of one more class than Aiken has) and that 4 star was a flip last second in Amadi.

We've only had 21 so far in the last 3 classes with 4 or higher star rankings. If we land Merritt it will be 22. Maybe Uluave if the news is true, but I myself am not that optimistic that we will pull him from UCLA.

Ah I tend to just look at Rivals. Springs was a high 3* on there. And Robinson's down as recruited by Aliotti and Tyrell was Aliotti, and Pellum.
 
The distance for Sweat from Virginia to FSU is 100 miles difference = any top D line talent from LA to Eugene was my point. Have you ever been to Tallahassee? It's far from the allure and thoughts of South Beach, trust me on that. I lived in Florida and Tallahassee wasn't the go to city for sure, sort of like Salem is to Portland. As for the Noles, they kick ass on D recruiting and put three+ players a year on that side of the ball in the pros every year. They also have a couple national championships and last year their D wasn't to shabby and when Ward won their other national championship, their defense was epic! That was also before they relied solely on a basketball conference for their worth. It's recruiting there and the right people doing it.

As for Neal his secondary has been the strength of our D for years. We are also two to three deep there and he recruited Springs, Daniels and the Robinson's in the last three years. Players like Springs and McGraw threating to de-commit because Neal was offered another job, you don't hear that about Aiken do you? Hell our secondary players are committing with the sole reason to play for Neal! Aiken and Pellum can't even get top DT or LB recruits on campus to visit one of the best sport facility schools in the country. Beckner Jr., Gallimore, Mack, Payne, Jefferson to name a few...... I'm not talking signing, just come see our school!

So is it a shock that 247 is reporting Helfrich to meet with Houston tonight?

This is a fact, Texas A&M and Auburn have brought in heavy hitters both as recruiters and D coordinators to make their teams D's legit. TCU another up tempo team already has a hard hitting, great tackling in space defensive team, and they'll be ranked top 3 coming into next year. I'm not sure why you and Stomp are both so opposed to Oregon brining in a talented D coordinator and recruiter who can only help our school get better? Our team D is ranked in the 100's and even worse on 3rd down proficiency. These are facts! Aren't you guys tired of the nation calling your team soft in between the tackles? You both may not like the message but it doesn't make it untrue!

Also, feeling good about Paulo. And Gary Baker is a 3* DL on 247, rated decently too.

I heard Folau may grow out of his 6'1 240 frame. May get too big for ILB. If we lose him, no biggie. He won't count till 2 years down the road anyway

I don't get the complaint. Coaches from USC, Miami, Arizona State, Oklahoma and Oregon all visited him in the past couple days, & those in-homes have been scheduled for many weeks. Visiting both prospects and commits just prior to NSD is commonly done by many coaching staffs including Oregon's... theres nothing desperate about it.

that said, I read some new Houston quotes and unfortunately it looks like he'll probably being going with the local favorite as he sites a desire to stay close to family

The travel conundrum attracting big guys to Eugene would seems fairly obvious, but clearly we've a special situation. To illustrate in the simplest way I could, I looked up on Orbitz what the difference for Neville Gallimore flying home to visit his reportedly very ill father over a weekend. Sorting by shortest flight 3 weeks from now, the legs from Oklahoma City to Buffalo NY and back averaged 4 hours and 45 minutes with a roundtrip cost of $570. Conversely from Eugene to Buffalo and then going back on Sunday, the shorter leg was just under 8 hours and the grand total $1346. Now imagine you're 300+lbs and spending 16 hours in a coach seat over a weekend.

Our special poster presents us with such a constant flow of misinformation, it's like where to start untangling this latest mess(es)? Daylon Mack... not only has Oregon expressed interest in him, he was one of their very first offers well over a year ago. It's not like it's hard to see if Oregon has interest in him, all you have to do is look at his profile. He lauds FSU for putting 3 defensive guys in the league each year, but can't stop trashing Pellum-Aiken who saw (you guessed it) 3 D Lineman move on to the NFL last season and probably at least as many Defensive players this upcoming draft. He mocked me several months back for relaying the DTs I thought UO might sign saying we'd land zero from my list. Now he just continues on with his WAAAAAH! crybaby act bitching about the same exact thing despite Oregon landing 3 studs including Kaumatule from that list. Absolutely no one else is losing sleep over the 3 spots on the DLine only being 8 deep 2 seasons from now... of course it's ridiculous. You're spot on with Neal only signing one 4* in 3 years, but his mania is DT-centric, so Neal will always get a pass.

his most commonly repeated fallacy is confusing facts and opinions. While it's a fact that one can have opinions, that doesn't make those opinions facts. Facts are things that can't be argued. Like that Oregon's D, despite being on the field far more then any other Pac 12 school finished 2nd in the conference in the most important category... points allowed. Or that the 23.3 points per game that they allowed this past season is right in line with what their stingy D has been averaging for over 5 years. He posted many times his hopes/dreams/predictions that they'd lose 5 games this year because of the "inept" D... that was his opinion. Facts again proved to make a mockery of his opinions, yet he continues to act like he's been right all along in spite of poster after poster saying WTF dude? Dreams of winning the recruiting Star Wars instead of all those pesky football games... maybe someday we could be like University of Texas! You'd think that with Oregon having more starters in next weekend's little game (including 2 former 2*s) might give Star struck fans a moment of pause. That maybe... just maybe, these long time Duck coaches who've overseen this amazing winning bonanza might just know what they're doing?

Baker had to sit out his Junior year due to a transfer snafu, so he entered the year with zero hype from the sites. What do we really know about him? 6'4 290 is plenty big for a future D1 DLineman. Rivals relays he's been timed in the 40 at 4.99, with a 4.84 shuttle... those are outstanding times for a big man. His tape confirms he can really move and also shows him tossing blockers aside at will.

Oregon is hardly in dire straits with their future DLine depth... an offer means their coaches think he's the real deal and they've proven again and again to have an eye for talent that succeeds. If he commits on his visit, I'll have as much enthusiasm for his potential as any kid in this class and won't be the least bit surprised if he makes an early impact like umpteen under the radar recruits have before him.

Well said @STOMP , I think we're good on D-line as Baker will probably commit to us.

What concerns me is LB though. We're striking out on the top prospects yet again, and it seems like our Waller-fall back option maybe Folau. But he may even go to Beavers.
 
With us falling short on our other LB options. woods, Smith, Houston ect. Looks like we are trying hard to flip JC Jonah Moi to finish the class off at LB.

IF that happens we most likely finish with

Paulo
Baker

with an extreme outside shot at Uluave

ending with an average class ranking between 15-20 most likely just outside the top 15.

His grades are great, which is why he's got offers to top academic schools like Stanford and Vanderbilt. Aiken is getting paid way to much to suck at recruiting this badly and knowing now that Canton was academically ineligible for Stanford as I said, and a fall back victory for Oregon, I'd say he looks even more incompetent as a recruiter than yesterday! He'll be the next to go. Recruiting is 50% of a coaches job and paycheck and as I see it Aiken is getting about a C grade at best. Now that would be fine if your were the Beavers or Cougs, but Oregon is a national brand and the expectations are vastly elevated!

So you can say all the Quack U is off and my BS opinions, and he's a know it all, and garbage like that, but you wont address this:

The Ducks defense is ranked nationally 100th or worse in both run stop and 3rd down conversions . We've been run over due to lack of depth and skill on the NG to LB spots for two national championships in five years and since 2008 have never gotten below 68 best in either defensive category. This also correlates directly to our recruiting or lack there of it. Stanford, LSU, Auburn and now OSU for the second time in a bowl beat us up and we couldn't respond. No team has ever won a national championship with an overall defense this poor. It's poor because of our scheme 1st, and our recruiting that doesn't fit our scheme. A 3-4 works if you have kick ass LB's and Oregon can't recruit them. So logic might say put another guy in the box till your LB's are good enough to run it the other way. Now I've said forever if you can't get a couple top notch D tackles to get penetration your LB's can't hit their gaps on a 3-4. Oregon hasn't been able to recruit top DT's either.

I'd love to hear your response to this because it's pretty clear we're not recruiting well to the defense we are employing. Further it seems you feel our D and its recruiting is doing just fine. Be it I'm so full of it, I guess you'll be able to tell us all how our D will improve the way it's going to be an elite enough unit to win a national championship?
