Those charts also suggest that Mozgov could be a steal for a team this summer. I can't stand the guy personally but his defensive chops and short range shot making are rating high in those graphs above.

And Boban as well but I think it would take a huge overpay for the Spurs to let him go. The Cavs definitely move on from Mozgov though imo.

It seems like all the FA center options this year come with a gamble of some sort so in some respects it may just be a matter of which gamble are you will to take and which gamble has the most potential to pay off

Not talking about Howard. I was talking about that rabble-rouser Canzano.

All these people clamoring for howard and his knee is bone on bone.
Same people who loved Roy. Bone to bone is what we do

That's why I lean towards Howard. He has been a superstar. He has been to the Finals. He was, at one point, a top 5 player in the league. I don't necessarily think he's going to be top 5 again, but I think he could be a star again in the right situation. He has a much longer track record. Whiteside is 27, but he only has 2 good years. That's a pretty big gamble.

I am OK with either Mozgov or Boban on the team. This means you keep starting Plumlee, but use the big guy when Plumlee is not ......big enough. Then you use the rest of the cap to get a back up PG. Mozgov is not that bad when you give him consistent minutes.
Just don't over pay for him. I have said since he was in Denver that he would be a nice part of a CBC.

Canzano tweeting whispers of Howard being who Offseason plan is built around. Don't feel like linking, cause then 9 pages of "don't link that asshat, he said we haven't got FA's before, so he's super biased!" crying happens. ;)

Well I certainly like the idea that Howard's gamble is built around a previous history of success but more importantly it is built around motivation (from the sounds of it anyway). Im not opposed to Whiteside but there is definitely a lot of appeal in Howard having something to prove vs Whiteside being perhaps as extreme as the complete opposite.

Is it bone on bone? I thought his doctor said that wasn't true, that he hasn't had any part of his meniscus removed.

That's why one is paid (in my theory) 9M and the other 22M. Are those 13M worth the drop in production? And if it lands us say Al Horford?
And how to you figure into Sander's salary the risk that he might just start playing like he isn't interested or might decide to quit? Where is he right now; is he working out 6 hours a day with a trainer and skills development coach? He better show somebody he actually cares about basketball if he wants to get signed.

I think so too. I'd certainly sign him, but not for $31 mil, LOL.

I hope someone else makes the mistake of signing him for 31 million per year. He's not worth it.

Who has room to sign him for 31 million, besides the Lakers? We don't.

I imagine some teams will reach out to him to see if he'll take a big discount.

I wouldn't take him at 31, but I'd probably do 25 million a year for three years, with a 4th year as an option.

He's burned too many bridges. There's not enough suitors for him to command a max. I think for him he's going to have to take less but get more guaranteed years.

Honestly the Hawks and maybe Dallas seem to be the only logical landing places with cap outside of Portland.

Programming note: Dwight Howard is going to be on Jason Terry's NBA show tonight Sirius XM at 4PM PST.

Portland Trail Blazers
Portland is looking for an impact big after losing LaMarcus Aldridge in free agency last year. The Blazers struck out on Enes Kanter in restricted free agency in 2015, but will have another chance to bring home a center this July. Whiteside would certainly help the backline of Portland’s defense, and could clean up mistakes C.J. McCollum, Damian Lillard and Gerald Henderson make on the perimeter. Whiteside could also form an exciting pick-and-roll combo with McCollum and Lillard, but their bombs away attitude may frustrate a center expecting touches. And when teams—as they often do against PDX—blitz Lillard and McCollum off picks, can Whiteside act as the release valve in 4-on-3 situations? In a limited number of plays, Whiteside struggled when catching the ball at the foul line in Miami. He often missed open shooters in the corner, and threw up a lot of awkward floaters one step inside the lane. But any time Portland’s guards make a hard charge to the rim, Whiteside would be well-positioned to eat.

How much does Dallas have? I could see a desperate Cuban throwing a big offer at him.

LA Lakers $62,613,020.00 -- Nope
Philadelphia $61,220,813.00 -- Nope
Boston $53,397,958.00 -- Maybe
Dallas $48,081,683.00 -- Probably
Washington $45,293,711.00 - Nope
Portland $41,813,658.00 - Probably
Houston $41,227,809.00 - Nope
Charlotte $39,830,474.00 - Nope
Brooklyn $38,636,058.00 - Nope
Memphis $38,082,020.00 - Nope
Detroit $38,005,231.00 - Nope
Miami $36,643,557.00 - Maybe if they lose Whiteside
Atlanta $34,652,234.00 - Maybe

So realistically, Dallas is the biggest competition for him, but what does that team look like after they clear enough space to sign him?

If they pursue Howard, I bet they trade for Rubio and sign a vert shooting guard like Courtney Lee.

Rubio/Lee/Random SF/Dirk/Howard

Not awful. But the longer Cuban keeps building around an aging Dirk, the worse the rebuild is going to get for the Mavs.

Lakers still think they are the showtime Lakers and players will fall all over themselves trying to play for them. While they do have a very good history they need to stop living in the past and realize they need to start a true rebuild and stop hoping for a quick fix.

So on the eve of NBA free agency, a GM is talking to... of all the mediapeople out there... John Canzano?

smh. How stupid does this dude think we are to believe a word of what he says

Canzano was so busy talking to Obama, the pope and the Queen of England I'm surprised he had time to take the GM's call.
