Jones is about to become a UFA. I was almost certain he'd get big money as a playmaking 4, but his most recent season destroyed his value.

Good. I dont want mahinmis, or biyombos.

If we strike out on howard or whiteside, be a dumping ground for other teams deals.

He's potent offensively (123 ORtg on a True Shooting % of 62.1%), and an average defender (105 DRtg on OKC which was a 105.6 DRtg teamwide). He's Plumlee with an offensive game.
I get the advanced stats, but stats can paint an incorrect picture....have you watched much of kanter? He is a total shithead on defense.

And yet his defense isn't below average for the team. Big fucking deal if his defense isn't great, the guy scores. The best defense is a good offense.

I think Plums is a far better defender, personally.

Trading for Kanter period makes us better. Huge upgrade at the 4

Defense has just as much to do with schemes sometimes. As an individual defender kanter eats dicks. You can hide him i guess, but no thanks.

If Portland were to acquire him in an unbalanced trade, which big man goes out? Plumlee ($2.3M) or Davis ($6.6M) for Kanter's $17.1M salary?

Probably Plumlee, but if it's a cash relief deal, why not send them Vonleh or Cliff Alexander?

I keep forgetting about Blake! I definitely think LAC will be trading him, and - despite the hate he gets - he'd be a pretty good target for us. I'm not sure what we'd have to send out in order to get him, but I'd certainly be more interested in Blake than Monroe or Rubio/Pek. Even though he keeps slipping my mind I think he's my #2 trade target behind DMC.

If we sign Whiteside or Howard I'll be a bit surprised, but will also be fairly content. But I still think our best bet for improving the roster is through trades:
I forget about him too. Here's a crazy scenario: sign Whiteside, trade CJ/Plumlee for Blake, sign a backup combo guard (Bayless?) and start Crabbe.

Dame/Crabbe/Harkless/Griffin/Whiteside with Bayless/Aminu/Davis as the main guys off the bench. Is that a contender?

Crabbe is such a downgrade over CJ though...

for those that were talking about bazemore, Woj says he's likely to get an offer in the range of 20.

that scares me in regards to crabbe

If Crabbe is so great, start him at SF, move Aminu to PF, and fuck Griffin.
I didn't say he's "so great"; just asked about your perception on the talent gap.

Is there a particular reason you're so opposed to a CJ+ for Griffin deal? Just really high on CJ's potential, or not particularly high on Griffin?

I think that's probably a pretty damned good team. But I have such a hard time parting with CJ right now. Given the fact that Blake is out of LAC [it is known], and his nagging injury issue, can they really expect to receive someone as good/young as CJ in return for him?

Also: CJ playing for Doc Rivers!?! I think he might retire before agreeing to do that!

Both at the same time. I think Griffin is high mileage with a concerning injury history, and CJ is low mileage with room to grow still. Plus Blake is a total d-bag and CJ is cool.

I'd love to sign him, depending on the cost. Could turn into a great buy low opportunity.
