Also what do you mean they don't want the cap hold? The Blazers? How does that work lol I'm dumb as shit.
There is a cap hold for first round draftees, because their contracts are slotted. 2nd round picks have no cap hold, so we could draft someone in the 2nd without impacting our available cap space.

Yes that is short. In comparison..... Aminu has a 9'.05 " standing reach. But I will say Jones' no step vertical is above average for his size at 36".

He also plays bully-ball. He knows how to use his strength to get his shots off. The NBA is a totally different beast but Jones has the footspeed to slide over to PF if needed.

Fwiw -- the Raptors measured Domantas' reach at 8'11" and he's been knocked his entire time at Gonzaga for his lack of length.

How about Rysheed Jordan? I've seen him in st. John's and kinda liked him. He has attitude and a bit of a me first personality but that's not nessecarily bad for a basketball player. Played 11 games in the NBDL this year, 8, 2.5, 2, in 16 minutes per game.
He's eligible for this draft and isn't listed to be picked according to nbadraft.net

So how does everyone see Portland getting into the draft, assuming all cash deals are dead? You think Plumlee goes? Do they give up Vonleh? The Cavs pick?
Interesting question. By my latest calculations in the cap thread:

If we renounce the rights to Henderson, Kaman, and Roberts, we'd have about $24.0M available. A tier 1 FA (like Whiteside) has an approximate max of $22.0M. A tier 2 FA (like Horford) has an approximate max of $26.4M. If we're gonna free up that amount of money, Vonleh ($2.8M) and Plumlee ($2.3M) are the prime targets for a trade. If we're looking to move into the late 1st round, I would think Plumlee would easily be able to get us a pick in that area (although a 1st round pick comes with a cap hold of about $1M). If we're looking at getting into the second round, I'd think a team would bite on swapping a second round pick for Vonleh.

Olshey pledged to be "aggressive" on draft night despite the fact that the Blazers won't enter the evening with a guaranteed selection.

"We'll tier the draft in such a way where we'll know what the reality is based on the resources we have," Olshey said. "We acquired the Cleveland 2018 first at the deadline, which is a pick that we can put into play. We've got cash, we've got future seconds. So we've got resources to get ourselves involved in this draft."

I'd be shopping Noah and the Cavs pick to see if we could get into the 1st round. Maybe the Celtics at #23? Then grab Thon Maker. Or as I like to call him Jermaine O'Neil 2.0.

So he'll leave without contributing and explode for someone else?

You do realize that Vonleh is only 1 year older than Maker and now has 1.5 years of NBA experience under his belt....I don't understand why everyone is so ready to get rid of Vonleh. The dude is fucking 20 and showed flashes the first half of the year. Do people not remember how well he played in our first win again GSW? We played him at the 5 and his defense and 3 point shooting really affected the game. He has the potential, IMO, to transform into exactly what the future NBA 5 will be.

I don't see much in Noah as a prospect, but it would be pretty stupid to get rid of him now when his value is at the lowest. Unless you're getting a lotto pick for him, it's best to keep him on the roster and let our coaches work their magic on him. We have a pretty decent track record of developing players, so why not let him grow under their supervision for another year?

Apparently the Sixers have told Ben Simmons they're picking him #1. This seems unusual (Orlando didn't even say they were picking Shaq ahead of time, to my knowledge) but there you go.

Gary Payton 2 looks like a strong player statistically. He also played for Oregon and is supposedly a 2nd rounder. Maybe we trade into the draft to pick him?

Yes. Trade the Cavs pick & get 2 early second rounders.

Pick GPII & either the Chinese guy, the Greek C, or the Louisville C

Second round/undrafted prospects...

Yogi Ferrell has been killing his workouts.

17 ppg last year while shooting 42% from three:

Patty Mills-esque. He'd get playing time under Stotts right away with his shot. Stotts wants his backup pg to be able to shoot. It's the reason why Frazier was waived.

Oo

You might be thinking of Aleksandar Vezenkov. He's a Bulgarian who was MVP of the Greek League last year and then signed with Barcelona. I was pretty high on him so I followed him a little. Barcelona has a tendency to destroy the NBA credentials of young prospects. Rubio, Papanikolaou, Abrines and now Vezenkov are all players who've come to Barcelona with fanfare only to look bad (although Abrines looks a bit better now). I thought maybe Vezenkov could be like Jorge Garbajosa, somebody who made up for slow feet with a great feel for the game, but Vezenkov has, I think, too much working against him body-wise. (Although not as much as Dani Diez, our draft pick last year, who I guarantee will never sniff the NBA).
