Yeah, way too soon to say what pick we'll end up with. I picture us getting the 8th pick, but really hope we get in the Top 3.
Also difficult to tell what stars might be available at that point. Given that there are so few stars in the NBA ATM, I think we'd only be presented with guys like Melo, DMC, and Paul George...and they're all borderline stars. Not sure I'd want to trade CJ and our pick for any of them.
borderline stars?

If George and DMC are on the table for just CJ and our pick, we take that and run (especially if that pick lands out of top 5).

CJ/Meyers/Vonleh could work. Though I love the potential Vonleh has... If it got us that guy, I'd be okay with it.
I honestly think that's too much to pay for George. Coming off that nasty injury, and playing in the Leastern Conference, I don't wanna pay top dollar for him - discount prices only. CJ/Aminu/Crabbe for George.
I'm not against trading anyone on the roster, but I'd rather split up that CJ/Meyers/Vonleh package into multiple trades to maximize their value. Also, Meyers' and Vonleh's values are the lowest they're likely to be right now.

Good call. I was hearing Colin Cowherd talking about him and saying the Lakers would look nice with Beal... so, extra incentive to poach! haha.

Washington isn't getting Durant.

They might not, but that won't stop them. Look what Phoenix did just to try to get LMA. Teams get desperate. The hope would be that Durant pulls an Aldridge and keeps teams on the hook. That would give us an opening to try to poach someone like Beal.

Vonleh isn't low, just because we traded Batum. Batum was loved by a lot of people outside the Blazers... Vonleh is all about potential.

I don't want to give up Aminu. I just see too much in him. Meyers is blah, I wouldn't miss him as a player.

I understand the mentality, however flawed. lol.

If it got us Beal, I'd be happy.

He's 29, so yeah..... kinda risky.

Actually I'd love to go after Brad Beal. The dude is restricted, BUT we know Washington is going to be going hard after Durant. We might be able to poach him with a max deal while they're courting.
NOW you've got my interest. He's literally the only SG I can think of (that's even SEMI-realistic) that I'd want to go after. I just figured DCW would match regardless. However, I didn't think of the Durant angle.

Is Beal a max player? Someone will pay him as one. He isn't one currently imo. Are we betting that there is no doubt that he will be one in (game - not name) a year or two? Because he is probably a 3rd option on a championship team. Not 2nd imo.

If the move was to somehow pry Paul George away from Indy, and then sign a third star, then I think he would fit perfectly.

Right now (small sample size warning) he's averaging 25 points on 46.6% shooting, 4 boards, and a PER of 18.4.

Obviously those numbers can change, but right now he's killing it.

If we're getting an All-Star SF then Aminu is relegated to the bench. And while I'd be fine with that, I'm also fine with Harkless as the back-up SF. Also, Aminu should have great trade value given his contract status - that would be a selling point for Neil to use during negotiations for a George trade.
This is Meyers' make/break season. I'm gonna give him until mid-December before I start losing all hope in him. He has the potential to be much more special than Aminu.

I think Aminu could start at power forward. The guy is 6'10.

I guess if we're making a 3-for-1 trade, and sending out some of our front court players that would ease my resistance to playing him at PF. And I might actually like him more at PF than SF since he dribbles so poorly for a SF, but would be above average for a PF.

In what aspect, though? I'm afraid (and am waiting, too, just nervous) that we may have seen the top of Meyers game.

Does he have post up moves, or is he a spencer hawes? It's frustrating to watch him sometimes.

His D is improving, though.

I think, for a C, his dribbling, passing, and shooting are definite strengths. Or can/should be. If he develops he could be a real offensive threat, where his outside shot leads to him putting the ball on the floor in response to a hard close-out, collapsing the defense and passing to a cutter for an easy basket. Once his shot comes back I expect him to work on this one aspect of his game all season long. If he never develops a post-game, but is able to develop the shot-fake/drive to the hoop, that'll be more the enough to create headaches for the opposition. But in very limited attempts he's shown a nice touch around the basket, so the idea of him developing some sort of post-game isn't completely out of the question.
I think he can be at least average defensively - again, as a C. I'm not concerned with his offensive rebounding since he plays on the perimeter, and he's shown flashes of good defensive rebounding. What most excites me about his defensive rebounding is his ability to make the outlet pass - it doesn't happen often (yet?), but when it does it's a thing of beauty.

I can get behind that. Thanks for the knowledge and opinion, appreciated.

I just hope he actually pans out! If he earns an $11m+/year extension next summer that'll be GREAT!

I think we're getting our collective knickers in a bunch getting too excited about making trades for "stars" yet. Personally I like having 2 splits of 3 guard rotations and one position 2 deep. I like a 3 post rotation paired with a 3 guard rotation (PG - SG- Combo) or a 3 wing rotation (SG - SF - SG/SF) and then 2 deep at either the PG or SF position. With our current team we Would be best suited with a 3 guard and 3 post rotation, the posts will sort themselves out I think, but we lack that 3rd guard... I like Henderson, but I don't think he is the skill set we need. In the draft I like Jamal Murray to start at the 2 and then play the 1 with CJ, with CJ as our 6th man. If we are luck in the lotto then either Simmons or Labissiere are fine to plug into the 4 spot or Simmons as part of a 3 forward rotation.

In free agency I would want us to go after a big guard, 6'6" or so. I like Greivis Vazquez off the bench as a Combo, or even Evan Turner as a more ball handling kind of SG.

Here's the thing, would Derozan want to come into yet another "re-build" (re-tool, whatever)... he just got through one in Toronto and they actually could do well in the next couple of years.

If we get Derozan, what happens to CJ? They are similar in some ways.

Derozan is a 2/3, CJ is a 1/2. Aminu is a 3/4. Its not a problem. I'll worry about CJ or others not having a role once we have valuable players ahead of him. Not just in the starting lineup but players ahead of him on the bench too. We are more than one player away from such.

CJ and our pick will get us Ben Simmons or Dragan Bender! :)

No I don't think any team with the #1 pick is trading it unless a Lillard level of player is in the deal.

Zero chance any other team gets Beal; they'll have until July 13th to decide on Beal if he agreed with another team Jul 1st. Durant won't take that long.

Plus Beal will want to sign with Was instead of another team since he can get more money and a 5th year only from Was.

Sounds like something that was told would happen for us.

Now he's playing in San Antonio.

Are you saying ATL won't throw max at Horford? (If they did then why does he come here?) I could only see that if he was really old at the end of the contract. And if that is the case then we should be leery as well.

I just see Horford as a pipe dream (even more of one than someone like Paul George).

Agreed. Although I think there is no chance we get Paul George either. All the players are as likely to come here as Steph Curry, LeBron, Anthony Davis and Andrew Wiggins.

We need to try to sign the next Aminu, or Wes Matthews, or Paul Millsap when Atlanta first got him. The A list stars aren't realistic. But theres other great longshot allstars out there; we get a couple of them, make a good draft pick, have some young guys continue to improve and could be a legit up and coming playoff team.

Yes exactly; Kawhi Leonard was in the same situation last summer and had zero chance of ever leaving that Spurs team. Same as Jimmy Butler.

Beal will be a restricted free agent so he has no choice in being able to leave.

We need the Lakers to start winning some games. We don't want them in the bottom 3 (they keep their pick then right?) but if they get the 4th pick they lose it in a trade.

Yep. I am listening to the Laker station right now. And I am concerned they will go into tank mode if they go 0-5 on their upcoming road trip. The good thing is the teams they will be playing are not very good. (Nets/Knicks) The bad thing is the 4 teams they have already lost to are not very good either.

I am torn because I am thoroughly enjoying their melt down, but I want them to end up with the 4th worst record.

I want them to go 0-82 then get jumped in the lottery lol

I just honestly hate the Dame/CJ backcourt. Never been a fan of two combo guards. It didn't work with Steph/Monta. I'm not sure where I would try to send him though. I think Indy might be willing to give up Paul George if the price was right.

It worked with Detroit. The Jazz had some great teams. So did Phoenix.

Even if they have the worst NBA record the statistically most likely pick they'll have is #4.

Top 3 picks are based off lottery and the worst record only has a 25% chance of getting it.
