I'm intrigued by Gary Payton jr. A large PG who is elite at defense and rebounding? Wouldn't that be a nice thing to complement our poor-to-average defending scorers? Plus he actually CHOSE to come to Oregon, and it's not like he can follow his father's footsteps one stage further to Seattle, so why not stay in OR. What say you Oregon-dwellers? What do you think of him? He's got to be better than Tim Frazier, right?
(I'm assuming he's not a lottery pick and that maybe we'd have to get another first rounder or SERIOUSLY exceed expectations.)

I've watched most Beavers games so far this year and I'm a big fan of GP II. I don't think he'll be a star in the league but I believe he'll definitely be a solid role player. He's very athletic and his defensive instincts are superb. He has a decent feel for the game on offense, just needs to keep improving his jump shot. I'd love for us to be able to grab him somehow.

Age will be a factor - GP2 will turn 24 early in his rookie year.

I do like him as a low-ish first-rounder. Avery Bradley-esque.

Based on Rasta's description of him (big defensive PG), how does he compare to Delon Wright, who everyone seemed high on this past summer?

I'd be up for that, but isn't he actually on the small-ish side for a NBA point guard? I imagine he'll be available early in the second round, so we should be able to nab him without too much effort if he's of interest to management.

Now if only we had a 2nd round pick in the next 3 years...

6'3" isn't huge but it's certainly not small..

Also, he just had a monster dunk on the Ducks.

They're easy to acquire. No biggie.

That would put him perhaps just barely on the small side of average, but I've also seen him listed at 6'2" and he doesn't look particularly tall on the court against college guys. Not that an inch makes enough difference to argue over, but I'd consider him at best average sized, not big. He's got skills and pedigree, though.

I wouldn't consider him big either but I don't think size will be an issue. He'll probably be able to guard most SGs pretty well too because of his strength and athleticism. He also looks like he has a decent wingspan.

Certainly no biggie....in fact that is all they may get offered for Kaman/Hendo. It's just been Olshey's history to trade them much more often than to acquire them.

Supposedly he has insane wingspan.
I imagine he'll be available early in the second round,
I imagine NOT.

10. Gary Payton II, senior, Oregon State
Rank on our preseason top 101 list: 38

Signature performance: There are a lot of candidates, but I'll go with this one: 77-69 win at Rice on Nov. 19. Payton's line: 19 points, seven assists, six steals, five rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting.

Case file: The Mitten is averaging 16.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals. The reigning Pac-12 defensive player of the year is having an amazing senior season, one that will see him rise on this list of OSU can start beating the goods of the Pac-12. GP2 is putting up a line that's mostly unprecedented in college basketball over the previous three decades. To be this well-rounded is not normal, and we're way past due to give this guy some love.

What does being a player of the year candidate in college basketball have to do with where you'll be drafted for the NBA?

Nothing.

He's a mid 2nd rounder at best.

nbadraft.net has him at #37 and Draft Express has him at #46. That's close enough to a consensus for me, since they're two of the more trusted sources.

We shall see.

Has a mid-2nd rounder ever shot up the board to mid-1st round or higher? The big climbers are usually mid- to late-1st rounders who already have garnered the attention as not quite lottery material.

BRoy's climb was similar. Also, where did you get this draft? Would love to see similar trends for other players.
Draft express has mock draft history under each player's profile page.

I assume #61 is what anyone considered "undrafted" material gets placed at? Lillard was really that low?

I guess my question should be rephrased, since anyone could be off the charts prior to their last year of college ball. Lillard was up to #22 early in his senior year, according to that chart. I would consider that to be where his draft climb started, not his early #47->38 ranking that would have been based largely on his junior year. Was that when he had the broken foot?
