Blazers have 13 guaranteed contacts and 3 first round picks. The two unguaranteed contracts, Ezeli and Quarterman, are sure to get the axe.

But that leaves 3 first round picks for 2 spots. So Portland is going to either have to trade one of the picks or trade a player for a pick.

New CBA is rumored to have 17 roster slots next year with two assigned to the G league.

The 2 players assigned to g-leage have different contracts.
I don't think 1st round picks are eligible (or would be willing) to be signed to those lesser contracts

There is always a chance we could grab a Euro player late in the first round and stash them overseas. I don't know who's available but that is always an option.

Rodions Kurucs is an option with the MEM or CLE pick. He isn't that intriguing.

Could keep Ferguson in Australia another year if we draft him at 15/16.

Yay or nay:

Packaging the picks to move into the top 10 and draft Zach Collins?

If Portland really wants Zach Collins and he falls past the top 10, I think our pick plus the CLE pick would be enough for a team like Charlotte or Detroit in a trade up scenario.

I really like Collins. Didn't know if he'd enter the draft, but his addition to the list is very intriguing.

But I'd put all three of our picks together to go after one of the SFs like Tatum or Issac.

One of Sacramento picks is good to move for. They badly need new talent and if we gave them two picks for New Orleans pick, they would probably do it. They will try to get a star with their pick and at no. 11 where New Orleans will be drafting, they could probably prefer to go no. 16 and no. 19. Will this be worth it for us though?

BTW, what positions will we have? How is tiebreaker decided? I see ours will be 15 or 16, Memphis will be 19 or 20 and Cleveland will be between 23 and 25.

I'd offer them ours and CLEs for NOPs (10th) or ours and MEMs for SACs (8th?)

I think Markkanen drops while Zach rises to around #7/8.

Trading up I think Philly and Sacramento would be good targets.

They won't give up #8. I know it's silly because there is hardly any difference between that and 10 but they will very likely have one of the star point guards available at 8 (it won't be Fultz or Ball or even Smith but could be Fox and should be Ntilikina) and they must want that. One of Monk, Isaac, Smith and Fox will have to be available there, assuming Fultz, Ball, Tatum and Jackson go in top 5 almost for sure.

This also means we have no real reason to move that high. We don't need a backcourt player, and unless we see opportunity to get Isaac (Tatum or Jackson are pipedreams), we won't be looking at top 10 at all.

I got a feeling Sacramento will end up with a no. 5 pick though. They will be drawn in top 3 but will have to surrender the pick to 76ers who won't be in top 3 (swap rights already belong to Philadelphia, correct?). Lakers will get pushed out of top 3 so Phila will be picking 1-3 and then 4th and then Kings get Philadelphia's pick which is now 4 but will be pushed to 5 as Lakers drop. Or maybe even both Sacramento and Philadelphia are top 3.

If trading up (for Zach/Jarrett) doesn't work out I'd take the gamble of Giles with our pick.

I think SAC would be thrilled with Ntilikina or Markkanen, so I don't see why they wouldn't trade 8. Ntilikina is the perfect guy for them to take a gamble on.

Would it be interesting if the top 3 goes:
PHI
SAC - Swap to PHI
BOS
PHX
PHI (via LAL) - Swap to SAC

Philadelphia would get the top 2 picks. They'd likely take Fultz and Ball.

The playmaking of
Fultz/Ball/Simmons/Embiid/Saric
would be insane.

Not sure if it works like that. If Sacramento come in top 3 but lower than Philadelphia, they keep the pick. The swap only happens if Sacramento are drafting higher than Philadelphia, and Sacramento take Phila's pick then (not Phila taking both).

I don't think Philadelphia can swap ANY pick. It will have to be theirs. Otherwise with such deals, the better team would just trade for some late 1st rounders from Warriors and Spurs so that they could cheat and trade them instead of theirs to the team with which they agreed swap rights.

Yeah I'm not sure.

Yeah I'm not sure.

It has to work like that. Still, if Philadelphia were picking 1st and 4th this means they could take Ball/Fultz and then Monk/Tatum. Long term this solves their issues. However if both Kings and 76ers make top 3, Lakers pick goes 5th so Tatum will have probably be gone.

They should trade 1 of their picks for Jimmy Butler and draft a PG with their other pick.

So, hey Chicago, can we have all star Jimmy Butler for a pick in the mid teens? I'm sure you'll find a guy tgere you can replace him with. No? Ok

In that hypothetical scenario 76ers would have no. 1 and no. 4. While no. 4 might not be enough to land you a Butler, no. 1 could well be in this draft if Chicago plan to rebuild, which all their recent moves have been pointing to.

I can tell I'm beyond hope.

I'm sitting here waiting to hear the results of the draft tie breakers like this:

Oh man--I simultaneously miss and despise those commercials. Thank you for posting that gif.

Wait, it's still Friday and we still don't know the results of this? This day has taken forever.

Do you read? I was talking about Philadelphia, for fucks sake. "They (PHI) should trade 1 of their picks (Which would be Top 5) for Jimmy Butler and draft a PG with their other pick."

Butler has a great contract BTW. $18M a year is a bargain for an amazing player and he is tied until 2019. 2019-20 is a player option but of course he won't take it.

That's funny coming from you.

Maybe you should actually read the conversation and you'd have an easier time understanding my posts.

BTW discussion from another thread, how high we can move by offering all our picks. Well, IMO not that high. You need to look at top 10 draft teams and see which of them would prefer to have multiple young players rather than one better classed talent.

Boston? Not a chance, they still have Nets pick next year and Smart and Brown to develop.

Suns? 76ers? Lakers? Timberwolves? Their whole roster is young players. No chance.

Knicks badly need a potential star. Rotation players they can get in the free agency.

That leaves is with Dallas and Sacramento as trade partners. Dallas need to fill their roster with players so maybe. They will have no. 9 so that's already after all 'superstars' like Ball and Fulrz have been drafted. Kings will be picking twice in top 10 so again, maybe. Detroit and Charlotte who come next would probably do it but is there a point for us to package two picks that are not that low for a no. 11 or 12? Unless we have specific player on mind and he is still available when it comes, we don't do that.
