He wasn't even on my radar because all signs pointed to staying one more year. Jarrett Allen is now #1 on my wish list. Kinda shocking that he declared - apparently he wanted to stay for two years. Wonder what changed his mind?

Elite length for a PF/C: 7'6" wingspan | 9'3" reach

I though he was just going through the process before he decide. There alot young guys doing the same thing there going declare but not hire agent.

Yes please. These highlights are very good, and against a very strong team too.

First time I saw De Aaron Fox was last night. I guess he is only 6'4", but he looked like he was SF size, probably because of his hair. He is sure a player on both sides of the ball, but out of our range.

I wonder how high into the top 10 we could get it we offered up our two other picks along with our own.

Kobe Bryant 2.0

18 years old

6'7 SG with elite athleticism and scoring ability. Very unselfish player, looks to make the extra pass. Probably the most NBA ready player in the draft.

Best player in the draft, but he might not even go top 5. If you can make a move to get him you have to go for it.

I don't know about playing him in Crabbes role at the 3. He's definitely a 2 guard, don't know what that would mean for CJ but when you have somebody this talented you have to go for it. Don't pull another Jordan mistake and go for the positional need. If you can land the most talented player in a deep draft then you have to make it work.

Stats aren't flashy

Like all players who enter the league his situation will play a big factor in determining the player he becomes. I think he would thrive in a situation similar to what Dame came into. A steady role on an already good team.

Portland and Boston are probably the only two teams with a chance at drafting him which can provide that for him.

I'm not sure we could even move our two top picks to get into the top 5. Gonna depend on how much the LAL/PHI/PHX/ORL value him.

I watched every game he played in the NBL (because he played for my team). Good athleticism, long, good spot-up shooter when he doesn't think about it. His age was very obvious, but learnt a lot from the start of the season to the end. Got benched in a heartbeat when he made any decision making error. Coach didn't really trust his composure (due to his age) at the back end of the season; but that's more on the coach than Ferguson. Great attitude, really wanted to learn, and compete. Needed to have more belief in himself. He was very surprised by the physicality of the league, but adapted, and will be better for it; made him more NBA ready.

That's a 12 year vet (who is notoriously punchable) he took a swing at.

I think he has a career in the NBA as a solid 3nD wing. Has the athletic ability to be more, and shows the ability to develop his skills to be more, but doesn't have the attitude to be more. He's too nice. Great guy, but doesn't have the arsehole nature required to be great. Whoever drafts him will need to be patient to get the best out of him.

Sidenote: also in those clips is Jerome Randle. He could easily make it in the NBA offensively, but can't guard a chair, so never will.

With the win tonight we move down to 14th with our draft pick.

Olshey loves nice guys. That won't hurt him in Neil's eyes lolol

Interesting NBA.com interview with Jerry West re: the draft and lottery:

West: "People think being in the lottery is a fantastic thing. How many lottery picks have really not been good? A bunch. Not a little bit. A bunch.
NBA.com: What’s the most common mistake you see teams making in the draft?
West: Drafting athletes because they have superior athletic ability and not seeing the skill level and, maybe, the desire."

That seems to be the biggest commonality in busts. They were drafted for size or athletic ability (guys like Tyrus Thomas, Thomas Robinson, Kwame Brown etc) The biggest commonality in good players that fall is that they didn't have outstanding measurables but had skill and grit...Matthews, Arenas, Kersey, Green, Gianobli, Milsap....

Maybe to discourage tanking, the NBA should implement a rule that you can only have a top 10 pick so many years in a row, then you get the least number of ping pong balls in the lottery.

How would you feel about this

1A. Hartenstein

1B. Ferguson

1C. Bell

Hartenstein fills the role the team wanted Leonard to fill. Can backup Nurkic or play the four next to him. Spaces the court and can rebound. Big upside. An athletic euro, with local ties.

Ferguson a 3 and D guy. I feel like his weaknesses are fixable. I like how hard he plays despite being so skinny. Adds another shooter to the mix, something we definitely need. Could be Kevin Martin with defense.

Bell is a plug and play prospect with his defensive versatility. I love guys that can defend more than two positions. Don't need to say more, most Blazers fans already know about him.

Ok, I'm gonna get blasted for this. I say we trade down. Get Bell, Brooks, and Boucher. They are hometown guys, and have played together successfully. We all know what they need (like 50 lbs for Boucher). Still, that would be awesome to integrate into the team. IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. Lol

You can just tell that Smith will be a solid NBA player.

We don't need him but I think he would be a great pick for the Knicks at #6. He will be a better player than either Lonzo ball or Markelle Fultz, whichever of those two doesn't live up to expectations.

Challenge Accepted!!!

Our starting back court is the worst defensive back court in the NBA.

Our new franchise center has already had knee surgery.

Our FA signings are either injured, or injuring others with the bricks he throws up.

We still have John Holmes.

Stotts doesn't stress defense.

Olshey has missed on picks in the past.

We are still a tweener team, with no money to significantly improve.

Every year we get closer to the lease running out, and the team moving to Seattle.

Calabro and Hurd

The fan base is too sensitive.

This is going to be the kind of draft where we are standing up right in front of the TV just like a playoff game. Every pick could be a trade or end up ours one way or another. We have so many opportunities to move up and down and trade players that it's going to be exciting right down to the last pick. :breakdance:
:drinkapint:

He asked the question. Hows that my fault?

Reminds me of a great joke. This guy goes to a psychiatrist cause he's up for murder charges and the psychiatrist says take a look at these inkblots and tell me what you see. He shows him the first one and the guy says it looks like somebody trying to hack a bunch of people up at an office party. The psychiatrist says that's interesting. So he shows the next photo and the guy says looks like somebody at a concert cutting up people into little pieces and putting them in duffle bags. The psychiatrist says man you're really messed up. And the guy says hey don't blame me. They're your pictures.

Not going to blast you, but agree with your idea of trading down.

Three first round picks = three guaranteed contracts. I would not have a problem with trading at least one of our first round picks back into the second.

I have given up on which players to draft. I believe this entire class is a crap shoot. I would rather trade down and pay less salary. At least if some of our picks are second round picks, we can dump them for the roster spot.

My first choice is to trade our picks, (and players not named Dame, CJ, Nurkic, or Vonley), for another starting caliber player ready to play now.

Who are your guys in this draft?
Assuming we keep all three picks, where they are....which I don't see happening, I like.....right now....Bam Adebayo, Justin Jackson, Jordan Bell

I think Bam reminds me of Shawn Kemp.

Jackson won ACC player of the year at UNC, so his bball IQ has got to be off the charts.

Bell is all energy and defense, all the time.

I love Bell and would totally be all for us drafting him with one of our later picks.

I'm a Bam fan too. I'm not sold on Jackson.
