And there are always injuries.
I agree with you in ways. They were the third seed last year so yeah they improved. Injuries always happen (lets hope we continue to avoid too many of them). We should appreciate Dame, the dudes an awesome basketball player. I think they could hit the 3 or 4 seed, but I dont think its a huge stretch for them to land on the outside looking in as well, but also once they get to the playoffs (we’ll assume their in it), they need at least one more CJ level player in order to be a real contender in my opinion. There just isnt enough talent, or depth to really threaten the top dogs.
I go into this year basically feeling the same as I did last year. Id consider it a success if they got to the 2nd round and played a competitive 6-7 game series. Id consider it ‘ok’ if they just make it to the 2nd round, and I just dont want to see another 1st round loss especially a sweep.
The question for me is does Dame have the team around him neccesdary for an ‘ok’ or a successful season? I dont know, but they sure didnt rock the boat trying to get better this summer.

Please dont take this as disrespect! I appreciate your opinions. I hope all those home games you go to are wins and you have an awesome time around here. If I had to bet Id say the Blazers make the playoffs, but how far they get I just dont know...

Neil brings back the exact same starting lineup and same coach for a team that couldn’t even win 1 game against the Pelicans in the playoffs.

Neil was interviewed on NBA Radio this past week and basically conceded that nobody is beating the Warriors. He mentioned he was outbid for all 5 free agent targets they were looking at as well. He said they were going after reclamation progress like Nik S with their limited options.

While I appreciate the honesty, there's not a lot to get excited about with the same starting 5 coming back. We just needed to upgrade one forward spot and they failed that.

God, they're showing replays (several times) after almost every play, and miss out on half the game.

It's a jumbo tron stream. Very normal for them to show replays like that because you can still watch the real life game or look at the replay if you want when in the arena.

Meyers can really shoot... Like if only he could do other things, but for a 7 footer that dude cant hit shots.

So far that's 2 straight solid performances for Meyers. I hope he can keep it up. Not expecting him to score in double figures, but he finally looks like he is comfortable on the court. And he doesn't hesitate when he's shooting, which is what we've all been begging him to do.

Simons has that (blasphemy! I'm sorry!) young Kobe fluidity. It's impressive.

We were 3rd in West. Not exactly middle of NBA purgatory. 13 teams wanted that 3 seed and we got it. The year before, we were 8 seed at 41-41 so we haven’t exactly been in the same position for years as you put it. I personally think we’ll at least be 4 seed this year. Don’t forget we have Damian Lillard, 4th in MVP voting. Don’t take him for granted.

We were 3rd in the West....3 games out of missing the Playoffs and a million miles from #2. Right smack dab in the middle of purgatory....along with the other 5 teams that were all within a game or two of the Blazers.

Like I have been saying... there is not much to get excited about this year. Neil brings back the exact same starting lineup and same coach for a team that couldn’t even win 1 game against the Pelicans in the playoffs. And for anyone excited about the rookies... they definitely will not be in rotation with Stotts having his job on the line. Get ready to see the exact same product as last year minus Ed Davis hustle and a healthier and improved field of competitors in the west... mediocrity at its finest
Just get excited that we have the simple pleasure of watching basketball back.

So there's 25 teams in purgatory? What's the point in playing the season then? Why not just have 4 teams player 2 rounds of 41-game series?

I hate how the term "purgatory" is used around here. Makes it seem like everything is pointless...

So it sounds like 5 other teams who made the playoffs are also in the middle of purgatory. At least there will be company.

Silly Bones...lol. If Portland (or any of the other myriad of teams mired in the #3-9 spots in the West) had been anywhere close to the top 2, then they would escape that purgatory. Those in the upper Lottery also have a chance to get better by addition of talent so they escape purgatory as well. It's the ones in the middle (no, not 25) that have no shot of even being close to competing but aren't bad enough to have a decent chance to add decent talent through the draft.

But then you knew that and it must have been a slow Sunday night.

You are a young man. 23 if memory serves. I have been a Blazer fan longer than you have been alive! Now imagine that, all those years, and no goddamn championship. Yes, there have been hundreds and hundreds of great moments and games and whatever-the-fuck, but at some point--while you enjoy everything still (hell, I went to Fan Fest last night; I've got row E to opening night, etc)--you start to see the dead souls pile up around you, you watch the Lakers go up and then down and then up again, dynasties rising all over the place and falling away; meanwhile the Blazers just bob along like buoys at sea, never sinking too low or rising to high. If that ain't fucking purgatory in a macro sense, I don't know what is.

Old man, you are tossing knowledge all over this forum! I may front load your status from rookie to vet if this continues.

How many points did Meyers end up with? I only saw first quarter.

I get it. I just enjoy basketball enough where I don't think of everything negatively when we're competitive but not contenders.
