Imagine that both the deals I proposed this morning happened, and we ended up with Doncic at 4 and Mikal at 9. Definitely take a step back for a couple years, but once the youngsters develop and the bloated contracts fall off, look out! Never happen, I know, but I'd definitely be intrigued by the potential of that squad.

If Doncic fell to 4, I would probably do that. I just don't see that happening though.

In your scenario if we had 24 still too and got Hutchinson, we'd come out of the draft with three wings.

I could get down with that. If they pan out...add them to Dame, Zach, and Nurk, and that could be a contending core in a couple years.
 
This might be like the Oden draft in that the Kings can not possibly screw this up drafting 2. Even the Kings should know they take Ayton or Luka at 2...right? Both worthy of going 1st let alone 2nd.

Maybe. I've already seen at least one national analyst saying that for the second consecutive year, the best player in the draft will be a Duke player picked 3rd. I don't think the top 2 are necessarily a slam dunk, especially once workouts and the combine come around. Don't be surprised if a couple of these GM's let metrics supersede game tape.

You asked how we could get 13 with 24 and 26 when we got 10 with 15 and 20. But then you answered how by mentioning that this years class isn’t anywhere near the caliber of last years.

Ok, but that's a huge difference by trading two not real valuable picks for a 13th that would have considerable more value in a less than deep draft.

Those later picks have value, especially when so many teams are looking to crunch salary.
 
i see two options for Portland this offseason (short of trading CJ which we all can assume will never happen under Olshey)

1. Trade for Blake Griffin.

2. Use TPE to pick up an extra first and move up.

Staying at 24, and spending what, $20m in tax on a bench player just doesn’t move the needle at all.

So either get Blake Griffin, or make a move on draft night.

Here we go--let's combine all the crazy deals into one. CJ to Memphis for #4/Parsons; Mo to NY for #9/Noah (plus Lee into the TPE); Turner/Aminu to DET for Blake. Trade machine approved, baby!!

For me, Hutchison is secondary in that tweet--Mitchell Robinson withdrew from the combine? The guy who never played a minute at Western Kentucky; the guy who said he was going to spend all year preparing for the NBA draft; the guy for whom nobody has any game film on beyond the high school level; the guy whose entire draft stock is based on his measurables--that guy is skipping the combine??

Huge red flag to me.

They signed him to an extension during the season and it isn't quite as team friendly. Plus other than one game against Boston he disappeared in the playoffs.
 
I would almost bet enough money that mattered to me that Portland will get Hutchison somehow.

I don't get that though. He has the potential to jump into the teens with good measurements and a solid performance at the combine. Why back out because someone at 24 likes you?
