Yanx extend Chapman and give him a full NTC;

NEW YORK (AP) -- Aroldis Chapman is staying with the New York Yankees, amending his contract to a $48 million, three-year deal.

The 31-year-old All-Star closer had been owed $15 million in each of the next two seasons as part of an $86 million, five-year contract, and he had the right to opt out of the deal and become a free agent.

The left-hander's amended deal includes salaries of $16 million annually and a full no-trade provision. Under the original contract, he had a full no-trade through 2019, then a limited no-trade provision that said he could not be dealt during 2020 or 2021 to any of the five California teams or Seattle without his consent.

Chapman had a stellar regular season with the Yankees, converting 37 saves in 42 chances while going 3-2 with a 2.21 ERA and striking out 85 in 57 innings. He earned his sixth All-Star selection and was selected the Reliever of the Year in the American League.

His average fastball velocity has dropped from 101 mph in 2016 to 98 mph this year, and the falloff was even more substantial early in the season before the weather got warm. To compensate for his decreased velocity, he has increased his slider usage from 15% in 2016 to 31% this year.

Chapman helped the Cubs win their first World Series title since 1908, then became a free agent and returned to the Yankees in 2017.

Do you have an actual point? Or are you just on your period again and trying to stir shit up?
If it's a confrontaion that you want, you know I'll oblige...otherwise, I suggest that you just let it go.

apparently the meta data indicated this was a "safe bet"? but that strasburg news means its gonna be an expensive off season with him and Cole bowling for dollars.

The Yanx need to find a way to sign a dominating starter.

Cole would be perfect. I realize that he's a West Coast guy but he also was a Yanx fan when he was younger and idolized Jeter and Mo. 6 years/ $200 Mil.

Maybe Strasberg if he opts out.

Cole or Strasburg, IMO, are the obvious choices in free agency. Getting one of them will be huge for the Yanks, but it will not be cheap. I'm thinking it might come closer to deal with 7 years / $250 M for Cole and 6 years / $215 M for Strasburg.

Then possibly trade for another starting pitcher Like Corey Kluber. It's a risk, but one that would hardly hurt the team if it doesn't work out. It will depend on what the Indians want in the trade.

Very close to being along the lines of what I was thinking...and yeah, another lefty starter would also be nice.

DiDi, I'd like to see him return;

Strasburg;

No MVP award for DJ LeMahieu...FWIW, there is an error in this article. It states he finished 4th in BA in the AL ...he finished 2nd;

Sanchez...his issues, especially on defense go much deeper than framing pitches...IMO, he's simply lazy;

Fully agree on Cone loved him as a pitcher, irritating in the booth but would probably excel as a pitching coach. Be nice to have a champ in that position!

Yeah, in addition to helping our pitching staff with mechanics he may also be useful in helping to avoid our ongoing issues with injuries through proper conditioning. But just as important, considering what a bulldog Cone was, he can also greatly help with the mental side of pitching, especially with the younger pitchers.

Bringing Gardner back is just wrong. But Cashman is a schmuck!

So we have a mew new pitching coach

https://mobile.twitter.com/JeffPassan

The New York Yankees are hiring Matt Blake as their new pitching coach, sources tell ESPN. Blake was previously a pitching coordinator with the Cleveland Indians, who continuously have churned out quality big league pitchers. He also has worked as an area scout for the Yankees.

Personally:
I'd give Gardner a 1 year contract. I don't expect Hicks to return until next September.

Romine is a must to re-sign. He's perhaps the best backup Catcher in MLB. He handles pitching better than Sanchez, and his Defense is considerably better than Sancheeto's. Hell, most High School Catchers play better Defense than Sancheeto.

As for Betances, re-sign him. Betances should be in fairly high demand on the open market. Tho' I don't believe he's worth what he's been making; but imo, he's going to ask for and receive more.

Free Agency will never see another Robin Yount.

Looks like Gardner is going to get an extension?

^^^Ditto...and let Betances test the FA market...if he signs elsewhere, fine. If not, make him an incentive based offer predicated on his ability to stay healthy.

....^^^^ ditto as well.

Incentive-based contracts are as close as we'll ever see when it comes to 'pay for performance'.

Brett Gardner one more year' why am I not surprised. Hicks is an overall better CF but the man has seldom showed for work since the Yankees gave him the money. Stanton, 30 mil a year man continually fails to show for work aping Ellsbury another no show buried under all that money he got in '14. Judge plays a great defense in right but ain't up to par at the dish, and has been MIA for some time. Gardner is aging, has a noodle arm, but shows up for work on time all the time. He still plays damn good defense and had a career year at the dish. As I posted last season, the man is a cockroach, when you think he's extinct he comes right back through the base boards. Not a playoff performer I've heard, again he shows up unlike the supposed super star supposed starting outfielders. So potentially welcome back BG, if the Yankees give you another year I know you'll show up and do your best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gardner in Monument Park, even as much as I like the guy that may be a stretch. Andujar, I hope that the Yankees can find a way to keep him. He was the hit man prior to DJ.

Agreed, you don't get a plaque for being slightly above average.

Gardner reminds me a bit of Hank Bauer. Blue collar player, no Hall of Famer but a sure fire gamer. One of the coolest "Gardner Moments" for me was the 9th inning 3 run bomb he hit against the Chicago Cubs . The Yankees went on to sweep the Cubs and we got a bit of faith restored in the team. Paul Molitor had a hatful of praise for Gardner during that '17 Wild Card game.

Trashman will show no loyalty when it comes to Clint Frazier & Miguel Andujar. BIG MISTAKE again
by this proclaimed genius who would rather scrape bottoms of barrels for a player not worthy of pinstripes
than an actual real talent. This guy has been putting one too many fingers in the dyke for too long.

During ST '19 I heard Mike Lowell state that Andujars defense would definitely improve given some assistance. Lowells opinion was that Andujar was a talent worth keeping. I hope the Yankees will find a way to keep him, imagine DJ, Urshela, GT, and Andujar in the same lineup. Given the outfield situation I'd say that Frazier should be retained as well. I'm wondering what will happen with the likes of Ellsbury, Bird and some of the other usual suspect bums who fail to show for work.

My wife and I were in NY (her first time) in 2008 and had tickets to the July 4th weekend series with the Bosox...we were 2 rows behind the Yanx' dugout and watched Gardner slap a single through the middle to give the Yanx his first walk off hit/RBI.

I saw that game myself on television, got that hit off of Papelbon.
