Thanks for the link.

Chuma & Bazley have been my two preferred targets for Portland. Granted, I don't know a whole lot about Bazley... he just was very intriguing as a second round pick. I was hoping to be able to do some more research on him, but haven't had a chance yet.

I caught the shoutout to Simons. I see Bazley is taking a similar route.

Bazley reminds a lot of Lamar Odom. If work out goes well he just might get up to 1st round. Due to there not clear pick for us at 25 olshey might take a flier on him. But we will see if he part of the Blazers workouts.

I want so badly for them to trade their pick w/ ET to get something even if it's just salary cap relief. I am really not a fan of this draft class...

We endured 3 yrs of ET's contract only to give up an asset when it's finally expiring? For one year of relief that we don't even really need (we aren't getting under the cap)? Unless this is part of larger deals to bring in stars, I don't see the point.

Agreed. Giving up assets to dump contracts only makes sense if you can get some value from dumping that contract--value that exceeds the asset you gave up. Currently, the only major thing dumping Turner's contract would do is potentially open up using the full MLE. I don't think the extra few million is worth punting on a first round pick.

And regarding the quality of the draft, this is the worst kind of draft to dump a first round pick, IMO. The best draft to do that is one where there are a lot of clearly-defined good players in the top half of the draft, but you're selecting near the bottom of the round. This draft has two or three excellent prospects and then a great deal of uncertainty beyond them. This is the sort of draft where you could get a steal near the bottom of the first round because no one's really sure who the best NBA players in this draft will be outside of Zion, Morant and Barrett.

Their chance of winning next year is better if Stotts doesn't have the option of Playing ET.
The draft has not very much in it, you could buy a 2nd rounder and probably get the same type of player.
You could, in theory, bring back an ok player for ET and a Pick.

All the more reason to keep it then if it's not that valuable.

If our pick is not that valuable to other teams, then you obviously won't get much in return back.
Well, they should at least try to use it to get rid of Turner. If anyone is dumb enough to take it then I'd be happy. I don't know if anyone is, but it won't stop me from wishing.

The other point is that a first round pick - no matter how useless - still gets a guaranteed contract. That alone would make it worthwhile to dump the pick for a couple 2nd rounders.

Is RJ Barrett really settling into a clear top-3 pick? I'm not sure he was even the 3rd best freshman on his team! (I'd take Reddish over him, and the PG might have been better, as well.) Ignoring the Canadian link, he looks like another Wiggins to me.

They can't use the 25th pick to dump ET. That shipped sailed at the trade deadline. No team has cap room and no team is going to give up future cap room for the 25th pick.

To get rid of ET we'd have to attach a 2020 1st sometime after about July 10th.

Does that mean we probably keep our pick and draft a player and then when the free agency is done after two weeks or so we can trade Evan + 2020 pick ?

I am really intrigued by Bazley. I especially like how he measured out at the combine. I am always in favor of developing young players even for contending teams. With Simons, Trent, Bazley, Skal, and Collins that's some serious potential. Not all of those guys will pan out most likely but I like the balance of that group because it covers every position and you have both offensive and defensive talent.

If we keep the pick it would really help to get lucky and find a potential breakout player. Now that Dame is about to be locked up for 6 years we can still build a good rotation while having guys who could eventually pop like Simons and Bazley.

No not necessarily. We can still trade our pick and ET for close to equal salary coming back or use it for someone like the Mason Plumlee trade with the Nets. We just won't be able to fully dump a contract that way.

I know this sucks but if the goal is to add another star player then it doesn't make sense to dump expiring contracts.

If the goal is to open up the Full-MLE then maybe it would, depending on the trade and who we were able to sign.

All,
draftexpress is now hiding behind the ESPN paywall, and nbadraft.net is only OK.
Where should I be going for my mocks and other info?

Don't know why I never noticed this before, but are you a forum admin or something? I believe Xen Foro is a forum software package based on php (could be wrong about that). Here I go derailing to nerd again.

I saw this on another site and it seems realistic.

Turner + 25 for E'Twan Moore

Moore can play and is a decent shooter, and has played SF for NO. This is assuming Davis is traded. Saves us 10 million this year.
Pretty good idea. Could replace Seth as the shooter off the bench.
