You sound like an idiot for posting this. Seriously... Where the fuck are you making this shit up from?

Just another white guy that gets butthurt when someone speaks the truth about a plantation type system.

Again, part of the problem...
How is the NCAA racist because they dont pay athletes? Thats his whole point.

I never once said they were. :dunno:

I said it's modern day slavery. When did I call it racist?

Why because I said it's largely ran an old, white good ol boys club?

Well isn't it?

How is that me calling it racist?

You're projecting.

I'm one of multiple people that interpreted what you said in that way, so maybe it was your phrasing.

What I said was:

Mainly Old, white, good ol boys who have been exploiting black athletes in the guise of paying for school.

I never said it was racist.

The NCAA is ran by a bunch of good ol boys. FACT.

THE NCAA is exploiting black athletes in the guise of paying for school. FACT.

So since I didn't include white athletes what I said was racist?

Fuck outta here with that bullshit @Reep.

And bones I never once referred to them as racist. I referred to THE SYSTEM being modern day slavery.

Theyre exploiting black amd white athletes, but you made it sound like they were only exploiting black athletes, which would be racist.

To add on to the old boys club style of it, an argument against paying players sometimes is ALL of the other sports, that generate little income. Tennis. Golf. Lacrosse. Swimming, etc. Those are able to exist solely on the backs of football and basketball, primarily. 2 sports that are predominantly black propping up predominantly white sports

Again, what I said was true right?

Are they or are they not a good ol boy's club that's exploiting black athletes?

Untrue.

Since I didn't include white athletes in my statement @Reep tried to call what I said racist and frankly that's just bullshit.
Why call them out for exploiting one race if they exploit all races? That makes no sense.

Because while other athletes aren't paid, their sports are also not generating the income that football and basketball are.
So? Players of all races play those sports. They're all exploited.

So? Players of all races play those sports. They're all exploited.
And the predominantly minority sports are exploited moreso, to ensure that all the sports can offer scholarships, like golf, etc.

How? Because they make more money? And the difference in racial makeup isn't huge. I wouldn't say they're "dominantly minority". Even if they are... If baseball made the most money, or another predominantly white sport, they'd still have the same rules in place. They don't exploit college football and basketball because of race, they do it because of greed.

Im not sure if I agree about it being modern day slavery, but there is definitely problems with the “system”.

I think the problem stems deeper than the NCAA and athletics though. The current day collegiate system as a whole very much contributes to the “systematic” problems of our country. Id even say that yes the system while maybe not “racist”, does however work against minorities, but it works against almost everyone who isnt exceptional or rich.

The whole college experience is ridiculously over priced, and borderline fraudulent in my opinion. Too many “kids” pay too much, rack up too much debt, just to come out of it, not ready for real jobs, and end up with bad jobs or jobs they aren't interested in.

This is why the “NCAA” can get away with much of what they have. Scholarships are worth so much money because the elitists at these institutions have no problems paying themselves that an athlete getting a scholarship is sometimes worth 150k. So your average Biology student looks at them and says I work as hard as you, I make the school money (Literally by paying so much just to be there), why should this guy get a free ride and get paid to shoot a ball.

Student researchers often times dont get paid, the schools take credit for their work, the real difference is that the NCAA has this sham going of being “amateur”, and therefore unpaid student athletes, these kids cant even go get jobs if their on a football team.

Anyways the US College system has basically turned itself into a giant cash making scam. Its infiltrated every part of it.

To me these “rules” of the NCAA to protect against what they’d call cheating, has actually turned the whole system into a cess ball of cheaters and coaches / administrators who HAVE to do it under the table in order to compete. Let them work, let them use their own likenesses to make money. If that “kills” the competitive aspect of it, then fine, because its college athletics, how competitive it is doesnt really matter... Its about setting up kids to have a good future.

It's not modern day slavery. Players choose to play college sports.

For many the only other choice is absolute poverty there whole life, no education, no nothing. Or go play a sport in college even if they dont really want to go “pro” in that sport, or their not passionate about it.
To me its an interesting discussion.

Modern day slavery would be out prison system but that's another thread on a different section.

I'm exaggerating but some truth is said in jest.

Of course because they make more money. If a swim meet generates a thousand dollars in ticket sales, and each swimmer is on a 20K per year scholarship, theyre not getting exploited. If a football player at Tennessee plays a home game, that fits 100K fans, each likely paying $25 or more, but for arguments sake, lets say average is 25, (ha!), their game generates 2.5 MILLION dollars. There's an obvious imbalance. And it's on the 2 big sports. Pulling up stats for what percentage of college athletes is X race doesn't generally help, unless you can do it by conference, etc.

Exactly, so there's no point to bring up race unless you're trying to make some other type of statement.

Do you know how many black kids are trying to play themselves outta the slums?

You simply don't know... How could you know...?

Just stop.
Do they have a choice to play college sports or to not play college sports? Yes or no?

Do they have a choice to play college sports or to not play college sports? Yes or no?

Every one of those players are lucky to get a scholarship so NO...

They have no choice.

There are a little over 3000 D1 basketball scholarships.

If one is so blessed to earn one of these lottery tickets

YOU BETTER FUCKING PLAY...

And don't have to get BUTTHURT for no reason when I don't include yours...
I'm not the one who initially responded, and I'm definitely not BUTTHURT. But if you're going to use childish argumentative tactics, then I'm done with this conversation.

So if someone is so blessed to be a slave (since it's "modern day slavery"), they better choose to be one? That's what you're saying? Lol. Okay.

Really?

You inserted YOURSELF into a convo that had nothing to do with you, misinterpreted what was said, became argumentative yourself after misinterpreting...

And now you wanna pick up your toys and leave because I call out your mistake?
