Moderators were awful. A little better second hour but overall bad. Everything framed poorly, when they finally got to climate change, for example, phrased as why is green new deal bad idea.

Warren had strong opening statement, kept her cool, no errors. Bernie still yells too much but "I wrote the damn bill" great riposte. Numerous candidates apparently had "no we can't" as campaign slogan
Every time Warren said something moderators asked Delaney or Hickenlooper to mansplain to her.
Williamson made some good points but her close made me want to hold hands and sing Kumbaya.
Buttigieg good moments, especially looking into camera and asking Republican elected officials to stand up to racism.
Women totally absent. At a time of full frontal assault on women's rights, nothing on reproductive freedom, violence against women act, sexual assault, harassment, equal pay, family leave, childcare. Like, there's POLITICS ... and then there's women.

Big winner, Lucia! All my guests turned out to be cat fanatics so she got attention and treats to her heart's content.

My biggest food hit was actually the bread I baked that morning after a two day slow ferment.

I thought you lived in the Bay area? I'm about 600 miles from there. I don't think I could get back in time for my 6 AM dialysis appointment.
 
Good debate

The Moderators continued to try and pit the candidates against other Jerry Springer style to drive up dramatics.

Biden got his ass handed to him, came back, got his ass handed to him, and came back again...rinse and repeat. He survived though. I doubt his numbers dip much. He is still the front runner.

Harris got attacked quite frequently about her insurance for all plan and her criminal justice reform among other things. When she did, she attacked Biden. I'd say she survived the debate, but her numbers wont rise much

Booker was strong tonight, one of the winners. His attacks on Biden were the strongest. I don't think he will win the nomination, but he would make a good VP.

Castro wasn't as strong as in the first debate. He had moments, and was articulate and precise with his words. Ge will be in the next debate. He's a wild card. Probably won't win the nomination, but would make an excellent VP

Inslee is a cool cucumber. He has gotten a lot done as governor. He says the right things. He would be my pick for VP.

Yang...$1000! Economy: $1000! Climate Change: $1000! Crimminal Justice Reform: $1000! Immigration: $1000! Every issue: $1000! But, seriously he said some real shit too. $1000!

Wait is that $1000 a month tax free?

De Blasio seemed desperate in his attacks on Biden in trying to create moments for himself. He has good things to say, but I'm not buying it from him. I don't trust him. I don't trust his we.

Gillibrand comes off as fake

Bennet sounds like Garfield. He is somewhat likeable and could be a vp pick. I don't know though. I certaintly don't see him going much further his run for prseident.

Gabbard comes off as intelligent and strong. I don't think she had enough big moments to propel her forward though. Her attack on Harris....damn. I don't however, see her winning the nomination. She would make an intriguing vp pick though.
 
At this point Warren is the strongest candidate.

Biden will win the nomination

Probably a Biden/Gabbard or Biden/Harris ticket
 
Harris looked terrible. Booker did well. Biden is a mess. Inslee surprisingly good (relatively speaking, still not great). It was a weak field. I think the Democrats are making a huge mistake attacking each other. Too much infighting. They should be focusing on Trumps antics and their plans without attacking. Attack Trump not each other

I think once the field is narrowed down to about 5, it'll become about why they are different from him, instead of different from each other. Or so I hope.
 
We know all the candidates (and a shit load of people) don’t like Donald Trump. We knew that before they got on stage. It’s a perfectly fair opinion to have. It is not a position to run your entire campaign on! So lame to hear his name uttered incessantly by people who should laying out their own policies.

A handful of standouts for me, negative or positive, are as follows:

Biden is old, out of touch and really just sucks all around. His entire campaign consists of Obama and Trump praises/criticisms. Establishment status quo through and through.

Cory Booker says whatever it takes to get an applause break, without the record to back it up.

Kamala Harris is basically a hard-lined establishment republican, with the record to back it up.

Tulsi is still my favorite democrat and the only one willing to admit that our inflated defense budget is the reason we have no healthcare, shitty schools and crumbling infrastructure.

Andrew Yang drones on about automation while everyone rolls their eyes. We will probably all get fucked by robots eventually and realize we should’ve listened to him. Bonus points for not being a politician.

Everyone else bombarded us with bland platitudes and applause-break phrases we’ve all heard before. I honestly can’t recall anything of note from them.
 
Joe too often seemed old and a tad feeble. Slow. Inarticulate. His fast ball ain't what it once was. And if the logic for his candidacy is he is best positioned to beat Trump, that won't fly long term. Warren, Booker, and Harris seem much better informed, sharp, ready, and capable of "making the case."

I'm surprised to like Warren as much as I have, but both she and Bernie are making ridiculous promises.

Tulsi Gabbard is impressive.

I bet we get a ticket of Kamala Harris and Butegig (generational and demographic change) or maybe Inslee (climate trumps everything and gets out the base.)

That’s literally all a lot of them did. And they looked stupid doing it. Swinging at the air while their competitors are standing next to them. The few candidates that were able to veer away from that and actually set themselves apart from the people around them were the only standouts. Attacking Trump is what the general election is for, not when you get thrown a tough question in the primaries. You can watch people bash trump all day and all night on television, it’s not position to run a campaign on.

Completely disagree. Of course they have to talk about their agenda. But they didn’t hit Trump enough. Not nearly enough. They bagged on Obama tonight, who is one of the the most loved Dem Presidents ever. Um...don’t do that. Rip Trump not Obama.

I didn't think Biden did as badly as most of you. He was on defense all night, and yes, he's still awfully damned old. But he wasn't on his heels as much as the first debate, and got attacked a lot more. He survived, I think, and that was probably all he needed to do. Although ending with
"what's that young feller? web sight? do I use my AOL password?"
wasn't a good look.

Booker had a good night, it helped that he was sunny when everyone else was kind of crabby. This debate was the least fun to watch of the 4 so far.

Like last night, most everyone upped their game from the first round last month, and nobody broke out, I don't think.

I found both Bennet and Gillibrand annoying. They have no reason to be up there, at least not that they can articulate. I was surprised Gillibrand went ahead with the attack on Biden's 1981 editorial, because it had been leaked, and so Biden was better prepared for that than anything else tonight. It wasn't a very fair attack, either, if you read the editorial. But, as they say, politics aint beanbag.

Kamala didn't have a good night, and if anything, she might lose traction.

Inslee and De Blasio had good nights but probably didn't do enough to make the next debate.

Gabbard had a solid, if somewhat bland, outing. She did land a punch on Kamala. She's a good puncher. I don't know if we'll ever find out if she can take a punch.

Yang... needs to talk about something other than the $1000. I know he has positions on other issues, but only because I've looked at his website.

Castro. He's last here because I couldn't think of who the 10th guy was. He didn't have a bad debate, but... I hope he runs for Senate.

I don't think the polls are going to be much different after this round.

Joe Scarborough and his comrades at MSNBC have literally scared Democrat voters away in droves. They are a huge part of the reason Trump is even sitting in the White House right now. People are getting tired of the soap opera and would like to hear some real shit. Bashing Trump isn’t a position, it’s a quick and easy way to evade a tough question. We can all go watch Morning Joe if we want attacks on Trump and russiagate hysteria. The fact is, most of us don’t. We’d like to hear some new ideas.

I’m not sure you or Joe Scarborough understand the concept of debate.

Generally, you debate those who are present and willing to provide rebuttal. The people standing around you on the debate stage are a good place to start.

A bunch of people standing around bashing someone who isn’t there isn’t a debate. That’s a sewing circle.

Ya. I get it. As I said they should be communicating their policies and agenda. And attacking Trump. Not fucking Obama’s policies who 100% of democrats love.

A political debate bears the same resemblance to an actual debate as a political party bears to an actual party.

In other words I think you are applying an unrealistic standard. They are not there to debate. They are there to attract voters and donors and volunteers.

Obama criticisms are relevant in the healthcare debate. His healthcare plan was not successful and certain candidates were making calls to expand on it.

Might not be the sunny optimism that we usually look for in a candidate?
