If portland has 8 million in room, they can S&T Whiteside for 8, not 5-6. They couldn't use the BAE, but they can trade him for up to the apron.

If that is the case, SAC is supposedly interested in HW. I would love Richaun Holmes here.

Are they at 8 in space after melo?

I didn't account for Melo. They were somewhere around 8-9M in margin before the Melo news

they actually might be able to sign Melo and stay under the tax line. He's going to make 2.5M but IIRC, his roster charge will be around 1.5M

I hope they are willing to go over the tax line and use the BAE, but maybe not

edit: there might be a little more margin because the numbers I used earlier in the day had Nurkic at 14.8M and I think his salary is less than that

If they arranged a Whiteside S/T, they'd just execute it first before completing any signings

that would leave some margin but they'd have to be doing an uneven trade. Like 8M for 5M. That's cutting it tight

I'd think if Portland is willing to go over the tax line they'd still want to leave a little room under the apron for a future trade

if we do a Whiteside sign and trade with Sac THE target should be Bjelica IMO, his 7 mil would put us right at the edge or perhaps a bit over into the tax if even doable

also would not mind at all taking a cheap chance on Giles

There really isn’t anyone left worth the BAE. Everyone is either a minimum guy or just too expensive.

Imma just hold out hope for Batum.

Apparently they are now discussing a sign and trade, so maybe Batum doesn’t get stretched.

Wait Melo signed for the minimum??? That’s big time. Means we still have the BAE to throw at a ball handler.
Actually, i'm doubting this now. There is still a moratorium going on, but teams are allowed to announce minimum contract deals. Philly announced their signing of Dwight, etc.,

Only thing on Blazers twitter is about Enes.

Wonder if Woj jumped the gun and Melo's deal was the BAE? For Melo, it's hardly a difference between the two, but I wonder if Neil gave him more $.

Or Portland is still trying to make moves and the order of the moves could have an impact on flexibility, so they’re holding off...

Or they are still scouring the market for a possible BAE target, and if they don’t find one, they’ll just give that to Melo.

Ibaka is more than an adequate replacement for Harrell. Ibake/George/Leonard...that is formidable.

How about Reggie Jackson
