Finally announced Melo and Giles here:

Interesting narration here:

Despite the symbiosis, there were questions about whether Carmelo Anthony, a 17-year veteran who joined the Trail Blazers last season after sitting out almost the entirety of the 2018-19 season, would return for the 2020-21 campaign. Anthony, who stepped into a starting role his first day with the Trail Blazers, proved over the course of the season, and especially in the Orlando bubble, that he still had plenty to offer an NBA team. But the questions of whether he would accept a lesser role -- a concern Anthony always insisted was overblown -- or if another team might offer more money than the Trail Blazers could afford made his return uncertain.

But in the end, the two sides decided it was in everyone’s best interest to run it back, much to the delight of his teammates and fans, both of whom came to appreciate Anthony’s influence on and off the court. The signing gives the Trail Blazers a certified “bucket” who can play both forward positions and whose voice is widely-respected in every NBA locker room.

Surprised to see the candor about a questionable role for Melo.

Also:
Assuming everything proceeds without issue, the Trail Blazers will have 13 players under contract for the 2020-21 season. That leaves open roster spots, which they might use to sign rookie CJ Elleby, selected with the 47th pick of Wednesday’s Draft, go after another free agent -- they still have the Biannual Exception should they choose to use it -- or simply leave it open in the event that a player is bought out midseason.

Come on, bring back Gabriel on a 2 way, and sign Nico. We desperately need a GLeague team.

Theoretical - If CJ were a UFA who would you guess would show interest and what kind of contract would he get?

I said a few months ago that Marc Gasol was going to sign in Spain. That's what some Raps fans were saying and maybe things changed but it was never made official so apologies for that. Looks like he's taking the Dwight Howard role for the Lakers. I think he's limited at this stage in his career and will probably be more comfortable coming off the bench behind AD than he would be starting for the Raptors, who have signed Baynes and Boucher.

actually, Giles is not official, which is backed by the use of the word “reportedly” in the article.

should just be a formality, but you don’t score until you score!

Dwight was pretty key in the bumping around the Joker. They replaced him the slow-footed Gasol of the bench? Not a lot of shot blocking for LA now.
If you take Gasol's BBIQ on defense, the way he takes up space along with the way Davis protects the rim could work really well. I think being on the team that is the odds on favorite to win the title may turn back the clock for Gasol but we'll have to wait and see. I feel like Schroder, KCP, Wes, Caruso is better than their back court rotation they had in the bubble, I think Kuzma could be better and I think a re-energized Gasol may be better and a better fit than McGee or Howard since only one of them would actually be in the rotation on any given night.

Is the 6'3" Donavan Mitchell worth the money he got?
He he it appears to be Utah's CJ or Dame?

best case scenario for me is Gabriel and Ellebe on two ways, Batum gets waived and we sign him.
Now Elleby signed to a real contract apparently. Can we get Gabriel on a two way? Don't think he's played too many games.

They’re going to miss Bradley’s defense. Schroeder probably makes up for Rondo leaving. On paper, Gasol should be an upgrade over Howard, but Dwight was surprisingly good last year. Harrell gives them some punch off the bench. Yeah, as long as Davis and James stay healthy, they have to be the favorites to repeat. But it’s a long season (a bit less so than usual) and anything can happen.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but we can use the BAE during the season right? In that sense, it makes sense for us to keep it and have an upper hand tool to use during mid season buyouts.

No thanks! His attitude is going to suck if he's not starting.

that’s probably the main reason he’s struggling to find a deal. Teams know he’s high maintenance and only worth it if he’s starting. And I don’t see many starting spots out there.

Would Toronto be a team that might have interest in Whiteside?
Toronto won't sign anyone other than FVV for longer than one season. Baynes and Boucher just signed 1+1 deals (team options). Whiteside probably wouldn't go for that?
