why tonight? Portland doesn’t have a pick to trade in this years draft. If olshey makes a “blockbuster” trade it’ll probably come next week.

I just thought draft day is usually a day where teams are looking to trade more, I may be wrong.

No, you're right. Tonight is the time when there will be the most trade talk all year... the only difference between tonight and the trade deadline is teams are on the clock. It sounds like if we're going to make a play for Simmons it's going to be tonight.

Teams without draft picks have to be active in negotiations on draft day because they can't be outbid by teams with picks. So yeah, it is more likely that we would agree to a trade today than just some random day in the next couple weeks.

But if the primary appeal is the announcement of the pick, you still get that, it's just announced earlier. Watch if you like the analysis and what not, but otherwise, IMO, it's a means to an end, and I'd rather just know who is picked where without lengthy discussions of wingspan and upside.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but text on a screen is a far less exciting announcement than opening a card, announcing it live, getting to watch the players' (and somtimes teams') reactions and getting a breakdown of the pick all in real time.
