There is another guy whose salary matches that I would trade for Melo. He shot .417 from the three last year, per 36: 8.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1 block. Name is Wenyen Gabriel. Maybe we could ask for a second round pick also.

Unfortunately, the following trade is a suggested trade by a columnist, not even a faint rumor. GM of LA is too smart to do this:

Los Angeles Lakers Receive:
Carmelo Anthony

Portland Trail Blazers Receive: Markieff Morris, 2023 2nd Round, 2024 2nd Round

It is hopeful that there is someone out there who actually thinks Melo has some value: "Markieff Morris and two second-round picks might be enough to get the deal done."

"But if not, LA should be prepared to add a first rounder or two and potentially Anthony Davis, to get the deal done. After all, Carmelo Anthony is on the verge of being one of the ten greatest scorers in NBA history."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Melo effectively have a no-trade clause? I think a few of our guys do due to the lengths of their contract (Jones/Hood).

not that I'm aware of but the CBA can be pretty tricky. He still might be untradeable at this point because of a CBA freeze till a certain date this month, maybe the 15th

IIRC Melo was signed using a vet minimum deal and there are very few restrictions on trading those type of contracts

I don't think Jones and Hood have restrictions either other than the date they can legally be traded, but again, the CBA can be tricky

Here's all I have been able to find:
  • Free agents signed this offseason can’t be traded before February 6, while players who meet certain criteria (re-signed with their own over-the-cap team via Bird or Early Bird rights and got a raise of at least 20%) can’t be traded until March 3, per Pincus (Twitter link). These dates are typically December 15 and January 15.

thanks!

in other words, looks like everybody but Hood can be traded starting Saturday. Hood can't be till March 3

C'mon Olshey, let's get to work! Trade Melo for a big who can play D, rebound and block shots.
Toronto might be doing a rebuild. Time to go after Siakam? Is there a third team with cap space that would take CJ and send some young assets to Toronto?

If that guy is indicating that would be so so; well for me any trade that gets rid of Melo is a good trade. Here we get back a guy who knows his role and won't need playing time plus two draft picks. However, I would rather get Gabriel or one of the two guys from Minnesota or any of a myriad of guys who know their role of D, rebounding, shot blocking.

Not many teams at all with cap space but some with expiring contracts that might want CJ: Pelicans could give Kira-Lewis and Alexander-Walker plus Adams expiring to Toronto. Memphis could give Jaren Jackson Jr. and Xavier Tillman plus Dieng's expiring. Maybe draft picks need to go to Toronto also.

Since Orlando is doing so crappy let's send them a couple injured players and get back a couple guys who can help us right now. CJ and Nurkic for Vukevich and Gordon. (Have I got anyone's attention yet? C'mon, this is trade season!)

Who is Harris?

Orlando can throw in James Ennis Jr, he's shooting 56% on threes in his last ten games, or a draft pick.

I want to hear from those that think they'd be a better GM than Olshey and tell me what would it take for a team to acquire Dame? Im not advocating it at all, just curious about the type of player and or picks you'd give up to improve the team, as an arm chair GM?

In all honestly there isn’t a deal out there that would be good enough for me to give away the man who had given everything to the franchise. I would only trade him if he demanded one. In that case I would want a super star in return. So Lebron, KD, AD, Jokic, Giannis, Doncic, Kawhi, Curry, or Tatum. They would be guy I would want. I could also take Butler and Bam, Young, Collins, and picks, morant, Jackson, and picks. Booker and picks would be good too.

Thanks, I wouldn't trade him either unless he requested, Im just trying to get put my head around his asset value as compared to other players.
Giannis I would think would be a fair asset comparison.

If I were a GM, when it came to Dame, I know that I'd be like Olshey is with far too many of our players, especially the ones he drafted and I'd have a hard time making a good basketball decision.

Any good GM would take Giannis or AD in a heartbeat. They'd probably take Tatum. Especially with CJ here they'd take Docic. With the way Embiid has looked it might even be dumb to turn him down. Obviously all of those trades besides Luca would require another trade. Nurk in the cases of Giannis, AD, and Embiid or a forward in the case of Tatum, to get a legit backup PG with possible draft assets. The reason why AD and Giannis are such no brainers is because they're both better than Dame and younger. The other guys' future floors are as good as Dame is now and they're younger. Those are hard things for a good GM to turn down.

It will be hard to turn down!

I guess the reason that we are resorting to fantasy speculation is because it's heartbreaking to come up with good trade scenarios every year and see Olshey do little?

I'll take a piece of toast for Melo. I'll pay a second to get rid of Melo.

Not fantasizing at all, tell me what Dames comp is? He's an asset that has a certain amount of value in the league.
