So basically who is going to blow their wad on him this off season and can we just trade him to them now and get something back?
Not thinking "who would likely offer him the most in RFA?" so much as "who would be happiest to have the right to match any offer he might receive, and thus would want to trade for him now?"

Trent has higher value in this league than Gordon does. I'm not opposed to trading Trent, but I wouldn't for Gordon. Zach's value in the league is close to none at the moment. He's not the problem in this package. Trent is.
This is serious? You think Gary Trent Jr. has higher trade value than Aaron Gordon? Gordon is an athletic freak, he's hitting threes at a solid rate this season, he can put the ball on the floor, and he's just twenty five. If we aren't holding onto Gary then he needs to be traded now because sign and trades are pennies on the dollar. Aaron Gordon is the better player now and he will get better. His ceiling is higher than Gary's and I love Gary but I'm realistic about his value. I actually want to keep Gary and trade CJ but I don't think Olshey will let that happen, so we have to get value for him now.

Dead serious. A 3 and D wing is more important than a tweener. I like Gordon's potential but he's a wash out and that's why he's interesting for teams. Like Thomas Robinson before. Different players, but high lottery picks with high potential. He didn't work out and now teams want to roll the dice on him. Gary has been more successful on a winning team in less years in the league. Orlando would trade Gordon for Trent if they could. We shouldn't.

Except Trent is not really good at the D part.

Yes. Trent averaged nearly 20 points a game on 40% three point shooting as a starter. He’s also three years younger. Gordon is going on 26 and people still only talk about his potential. He’s also an unrestricted free agent after next season while Trent is restricted.

If money wasn’t a thing, I still wouldn’t do that trade straight up, and I’m one of those that would actually welcome Gordon in Portland.

So anyone in here correct me if I'm wrong on this. The major consensus in here is that we do not have a championship roster and we can't build one through free agency but people in here also don't want to trade anything we have on the team that is of worth; even if there is no way that we're keeping this team, that we all acknowledge is not a legit contender, together after this season. That's not meant for all of you but it is meant for most of you. Does that sound about right?

Would you do it?

A 6 for 2 trade? A 6 for 2 trade that puts us into the tax, and leaves us needing to sign 4 more players! No.
So it doesn't matter what the players are? If the players were LeBron James and Anthony Davis you'd say the same?

Let ownership worry about the "repeater tax" and that shit - it ain't your money.

they are worried about it. That’s why it won’t happen.

Kind of hard to find a team with four open roster spots.

This is just stupid. Come on. Those guys are worth going into repeater tax for, obviously. Horford and hill are not.

lol...yeah

if it was Dame-Lebron-AD, you trade everybody not on a rookie contract for good cheap players and lots of future picks. Then sit back and wait for the flood of decent older players willing to sign a minimum deal. Then win 2 or 3 championships in a row

Pleased to know you care more about ownership's bottom line than the team succeeding. Are you a fan of the team or the ownership? You KNOW Mark Cuban would sign off on a trade like that if his GM said it would help the team.

Well the rumor mill seems like it's going pretty quiet up to trade deadline. Not saying there won't be any but don't seems like there not going be any big names move. I think the buy outs might be bigger then the trades.

Stein is reporting that the clippers are trying to put together a package for LONZO Ball. My question is, why isn’t olshey? (I know there’s a possibility he might be, but come on, let’s be real, we all know he isn’t)

But...... why? I don't understand you guys wanting to trade for guards. We don't need guards. We need forwards. We already don't want to pay Trent what he's going to command in the offseason. Why would we want another starting caliber guard?

because Lillard is the only guy on the team that can consistently make plays for others. If you put Ball on this team not only could he run the second unit better than CJ, but you can also play Dame off the ball more. That’s worth starter type money. Actually, if I had the choice between Trent and Ball, I would choose Ball. I like Trent, but his lack of ballhandling/playmaking/rebounding caps his minutes in Portland while CJ is around. Ball could legitimately play with dame AND CJ.

But it's the same problem. We have all our money tied up in guards. We need forwards.

I'm pretty sure the company line is if it isn't going to put us in the finals we're not going into the repeater tax. Yeah if we were pairing LeBron or AD with Dame, I think we'd go into the repeater tax for that. Horford and Hill adding depth is hardly LeBron or AD... don't be so hyperbolic.

Note that the question asks "would YOU do it" and (I'm guessing) you are not part of ownership.
Yeah so I looked at it and unless there is a pretty damn good wing on the buyout market getting better at back up C and G isn't worth stripping SF down to Gary and Nas. To me it isn't. I'm cool with letting the possible upsides of Ant and Zach go for these two old ass players. I'm cool with replacing Ant and Enes/Giles with huge upgrades and contracts at guard and post. I'm just being pragmatic when I say this kills our defense at a position that is a defensive strength right now, for backups at two positions that we're already pretty solid at.

Trent is playing like he knows that he’s being traded soon :banghead2:
The guy is 22 if he's hearing that shit then it's got to be playing with him. The good thing is I think other GMs will know that, so it won't hurt his trade value and if he isn't traded then he'll be back to lights out after the deadline which is five and a half days from right now. At the most that effects the next two games.
