and anyone saying that they knew how useful Winslow would be here at the time of the trade is lying

I was 100% in on Justice.
I knew it from Day One, and I AM NOT lying.

I will continue all season long to take my victory lap on almost every single one of you.
Not usually my style, but I (and Joe) earned it.

Edit:
Even moreso, I was 110% in on the absolute worthless piece of trash known as roco&norm.

i bashed cronin nonstop for that trade as well because: 1) there was absolutely no reason to do it one week before the deadline, 2) we got no picks out of it.

but i will happily eat crow now.

For me, as should be no surprise, I'm still in a wait and see to have bigger sample sizes. I want to see how the entire season goes, personally.

But man have Powell and Covington sucked for 10 games lol.

Yeah losing that second pick seems like a bad loss now? Figure ot might have gone for Grant anyway?

It is interesting to remember (and I may not be remembering correctly) that it really all hinged on the NO pick and where they would land. That determined (erroneously, obviously) if we got grant. Is my memory right on that?

As i remember yes. The thing is most figured the Clippers would be in the playoffs.

That doesn't seem fair to say if someone knew who Winslow was.
It's not like Winslow turned into a different player with the Blazers. He's a tenacious defender who can facilitate the offense at times (acted as PG for the Heat) , and typically is not a good scorer and almost never a good shooter.

Around the 2:13 time-mark, you can hear how much Spolstra appreciates Dame.

Spo's not wrong. Sign of maturity for Dame. Even the pass to Grant for 3 late was a sign that Billups instilled in our players to trust each other.

Trust the Pass and Dame sharing his clutch genes to his teammates

I argued that if healthy, Winslow is a good player...

I don't always make good predictions, but I have loved Winslow as a player for a very long time and I am going to gloat in that, for a change.

I’m not trading 1sts for Turner, sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Not an opinion I’m moving off of.
Who is trying to move you off of it? As well as he is playing now i doubt we have the assets to get him anyway.

I guess I wouldn't bother trying to persuade anyone here to trade for Turner because I think most place a unreasonably high value on Simons and the only trades I can think that would work would involve him. I do know that it was rumored that Portland tried to get Turner in the off-season so I think that means Billups and Cronin value him.

How well is he actually playing? I see a 27/10 game and a 37/12 game, with a 7/5 and and 5/6 sprinkled in as well. 5 total games played. No more consistent than Nurk, 5 more ppg, 3 less rpg.

But yeah you’re right, Turner’s going bonkers right now, no way we have the assets to trade for this guy lol.

The Blazers turned 2 first round picks and Gary Trent into RoCo and Powell into Winslow and Johnson.

I know some fans don't want to look at the whole sequence, but that is what happened. If Winslow stays healthy for an entire season, Cronin gets credit for mitigating the damage, but let's not get carried away.

Haliburton, Duarte, and Hield......are just 3 guards on Indiana. (Assuming Mathurin is an SF) They have shooters, what they don't have are bigs after trading Sabonis. I don't see any way they would want to trade Turner for another guard.

You're ignoring the cap space as an asset as well as the draft pick that came back and the one that we almost had....salary dump allowed us to bring back Ant and Nurk and sign Payton. that's the whole picture without mentioning the fillers like Hughes or Didi.....Joe turned dysfunctional chemistry into a team that can play Chauncey ball....I give him a lot of credit. Gary Trent by the way, wasn't real happy in Portland either. CJ wanted New Orleans......Nance had knee issues...no brainer. We now have the best 14 man roster I can remember in a long time. I like it. We have rotation players on rookie deals.

Don’t want to pat myself on the back but,

I actually think the Norm/RoCo trade wasn’t as bad as people think. RoCo is a role player on an expiring contract. You weren’t going to get anything for him. I think Norm for Winslow is an even swap. Norm was a redundancy on a supposedly unattractive contract. Winslow was the exact player Portland needed. From the games he played, he will fit in well here. The only question with him is health.

As far as the CJ trade, the pick not conveying this season really killed the trade. But that was a calculated risk that required a historic Lakers implosion and PG contracting Covid-19 at the last minute to not convey. That’s just bad luck. Had the pick conveyed, I believe it was fair. The only question I had with the CJ trade was the need to include Nance in the deal. I think Nance would have really contributed to Chauncey’s system.

Also with the CJ trade, people are forgetting that the organization “took care” of CJ by letting him pick and have input on where he wanted to go. This took away a lot of leverage Cronin had to negotiate. While it’s hard to swallow, I think taking care of CJ was the right thing to do. Players talk and they know how organizations treat players. For a small-market franchise, this is magnified even more.

That 4 game win streak prior to the All-Star break showed the type of ball Chauncey is capable of instilling in the team. I think Winslow and Hart are exactly the type of guys the team needs and didn’t have in previous seasons.

To be clear, that post wasn't about the CJ/Nance deal. Turning CJ and Nance (1 first rounder) into Hart and Grant (if he stays healthy) could actually be a really good move. I have admitted to be too harsh on Cronin for that trade.

The Blazers do not win that game last night if roco&norm are on this team and Justice Winslow isn't.
Period.
Cronin/Blazers won the Clipper trade too.
To argue is just grasping at straws.

I think just about everybody was assuming that the Pels pick would be used on Grant and the Milwaukee pick would be future leverage. I suppose, maybe, Cronin could still have leveraged the Milwaukee pick for Grant. But even if it had been the Pels pick that would have been OK. I'm not seeing anybody that was drafted at 13 or later that would have altered Blazer trajectory. I know some people were high on Duren but I never was. Tari Eason might have been nice though

Eason was definitely my guy in that range.

Dude if we had Duren with this cast…that’d be crazy squad in two years.

Hello everyone

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

I’m from the UK and lived in the States for one year in 2012/13. Watched a ton of basketball then and crucially was mesmerised by Dame’s rookie year and been a Blazer follower ever since.

Anyway, watched a lot of turgid basketball since then, but really excited about this new roster. Feels like a great combo of genuine stars, good squad players on favourable contracts, and exciting young talent!

Last night Blazers were pretty rough I thought, lots of needless turnovers. But still a good win when not playing well. In the UK, playing poorly but getting the win is a worn out ‘winners’ cliche!

My big takeaway is that Jerami Grant is a huge gamechanger for the Blazers despite initial scepticism. Seems like a great 2-way player and the perfect 2 for Dame.

I like the way we are letting our opponents live and die by their 3 point shooting. Much more compact and while we might let the likes of Gabe Vincent go off temporarily, he was garbage after the 1Q and feels like we’re gambling that the hot hand goes cool.

Need some reliable shooting off the bench imo, and do wish Nurk would stop flipping up some of that rubbish sometimes! But overall excited enough about this roster to post on this forum, after nearly 10 years!

As a fellow Englishman, I appreciate your style.
