Coaching, like I said. Lol. I just like Chauncey better, we needed to mix it up. So I'm happy. He's not the best coach, not even close, but better than Stotts (as most are).
I don't know if Chauncey is better than Stotts. Chauncey hasn't had a chance to prove what he is. I like what he says but he hasn't had the personnel to implement his philosophies. He definitely isn't the most flexible of coaches at this point. Stotts wasn't a terrible coach, he was a net neutral that had near a decade to prove that he could do big things with this team and he couldn't. It was time to move on long before we did.

I hope Joe can put together a roster that fits what Chauncey is trying to do, so we can see just how well it can work.

I'm still going to enjoy the season but not expect much and that's okay. It's the off-season and next year that are important. Cronins job is on the line and hinges on this off-season, period. But I can be patient and wait.
So in December, losing didn’t matter and now, in February, losing doesn’t matter. I’m extremely patient, in my life and in my career, and that has paid dividends. But I’ve been waiting on the Blazers since 1989. When did you become a fan? I do believe our success hinges on the off-season too. In the DRAFT, which is the only way for us to get talent on our team with or without Dame.

Why? He was a mediocre coach.

Chauncey is a bad coach.

I wanted a good coach. We knew it was a risk to change things up, and it was a mistake to let Neil pick the successor.... he should have been following Terry out the door.

I can agree with this. Chauncey isn't a good coach, but better than Stotts.

Stotts really sucks. Chauncey just sucks. Lol. I can meet there. But honestly billy the billygoat herder would have been a better coach than Stotts.

Billups is worse. He probably won't ever coach a winning season here. Billy the billy goat herder would be a better coach than Billups.

yeah....and while the Blazers don't have good defenders, they also don't have stupid players. So at this point the clueless defense if from clueless coaching.

Drew is pretty stupid on defense..Helping on players that don't need it, leaving his man wide open under the hoop.

This season happened. Have you ever felt comfortable with a lead?
Never. In fact, I get more nervous when they have leads bc you know they will give it up and give it up quickly. The 17 point lead they had vs the Bulls vaporized in an instant.

Maybe nobody cares or noticed, but Sharpe was doing a great job staying attached to his man (such as when SGA dribbles to the hoop with his head down) without fouling.
He's been trying to do that a lot but gets called when the dribble-driver leans into Sharpe's body.
I didn't see that happening tonight. Maybe he's getting a better feel on how to position his body. It was just one game but good to see. I think he could become a very good defender.

Specifically, in what way is Chauncey a better coach than Stotts? What is your knowledge of Stotts as a coach? What is your knowledge of Chauncey as a coach? Sounds like you could care less about Chauncey. You just wanted something different. How is Chauncey different? What did Stotts do wrong?

You defined him as medicore, which is an opinion.

My stance was the odds of us identifying and obtaining a significantly better coach was unlikely. That seemed fairly obvious. Whether we define Stotts as good/mediorce doesn't really matter. Change for the sake of change isn't my type of strategy, especially given Dame's stage in their career.

I've been a fan of the mariners my whole life, we can play the length of sadness cheering a team lol

Blazers since 91 and a hardcore fan from about 08. I remember it all.

I agree completely with the last sentence about the draft and offseason, and this is Joes last off-season to make something happen. If by this time next year we're in the same spot, I won't be fuming mad, but Joe (and most likely Chauncey) will be fired. And I'd support both of those.

That block he had was sick.

He’s a good on ball defender. His problem is on team defense. He’s always lost and misses rotations. He’ll have to learn and improve there.

Then you are resigning yourself to never winning, because I don't think he had the ability to lead a team to a championship. He was always outclassed against the top tier coaches of the league.

I would rather chase the potential of a top tier coach rather than keep a mediocre one for 10+ years. The guy was played out. He gave us everything he was ever going to give us.

And he kept the index card company in business!

Yeah, I just want to see Dame do his thing and see what a bunch of these young guys have to offer. Unlike you I think the jury is in on the Dame/Ant pairing, it does not look functional to me at all. The good news is that Ant has the second largest salary on the team so if Joe is going to go all in to get Dame a second superstar he's going to need Ant not just for his talent and potential but just to match salaries.
Not interested in watching Dame “do his thing.” Bench him and let’s see if we can go 6-20 the rest of the way.

Utah and OKC hired the right coaches. Both rookie head coaches as well.

Is there ANY world where that happens? He doesn't have an injury that'll keep him out like last year lol

I'll never realize I'm wrong because it's a subjective opinion.

Anything else? ;)

There is nothing subjective about a coach being bad or not.

We’ll see how serious this franchise is about winning once all trades are finalized and buyouts completed. We desperately need a legitimate backup C and now we have the cap space to pick up a veteran to help. If they don’t go out and get one then we have no chance of making the playoffs.

I think if we cared about winning now we would have addressed that.

That's an opinion I don't agree with. I believe he was probably good enough to win a title with a championship level roster. He was always outclassed by teams with better talent/length.
