You all keep redefining what I'm saying.

I didn't say he was bad. I said he's not worth it for the Blazers.

I didn't say it was crazy. I said it would be dumb.

I don't know if you're doing it on purpose or not, but it's pretty irritating.

The fact that playoff teams are paying arguably inferior players (and I'm not going to get into whether I think those guys are better than him or not at the moment) as much as our shabby team would be paying for Grant isn't an argument that it wouldn't be dumb for Portland to pay him that much. They have good enough teams to not only make the playoffs but, in most cases listed above, threaten to win a title this year. Portland wasn't that this year and won't be next year... and I would argue won't be during a contract that includes Grant being paid $30m+ a year. Paying Grant that much and giving him minutes would probably result in a few additional wins (like it did this year) but nothing substantial enough to justify doing it (like it did this year).
If we don't think we're going to be a playoff team it would be dumb to re-sign Grant unless it was a very team friendly deal.

I’m not trying to do anything on purpose. My fault if you feel that way.

The jist of what I’m saying is it wouldn’t be a dumb move. It’s a small market team and Dame wants to compete. Therefore, trading for him for that cheap and re-signing him for as efficient as he’s been this year for a contract starting at $30m/yr is not a dumb move.

If Dame wasn’t on the team or wanted to be moved this summer, of course you don’t give him that kind of contract and let him walk.

If you’re getting infuriated reading a comment, take some time off. It’s just sports bro lol.
I'm not infuriated. I'm irritated.

I don't know if you're messing with me or if you're just stupid.

Yes, indeed. If we're a play-in level team with him, is it worth it?

If we're a sixth seed with Grant, is it worth it?

I don't think that it is, and I don't think our team will be better than that, which is why I am landing where I am on Grant.

It's fun being the guy who picked them getting HCA that now ISNT freaking out.

It's a great place to be. Makes life so much more enjoyable.

Neither actually. I aspire to have your level of self confidence if you think any level of disagreement to what you said makes someone else stupid lol.

I can actually see where you’re coming from with the Grant re-signing comment.

MM, its the last game of an ugly year and who the fuck cares at this point? we at least got the 5 slot going into the lottery
It’s my anger coming out early knowing

A. Chauncey will be back

B. We’ll most likely overpay or panic trade Sharpe for one of Dame’s “needle movers”

C. Jody still owns this team and uncle Bert still helps make Decisions

I’m basically just going to listen to Won’t get fooled again and Once in a lifetime on loop until next season

If someone hasn’t figured out how to deal with the disappointment of being a Blazer fan they haven’t been a fan very long

I think it would be wise to not put too much weight on individual performances during the last month of the season when there is is zero pressure on players to win and they're not being required to play a role next to other starting caliber players.

Does that mean Sharpe is garbage and can't be in All-Star? No.

Is this month proof that Sharpe is a future star in this league that the Blazers should build around? No, I think that conclusion is premature as well.

I think it would be wise for some posters to not keep reminding everybody how truly bad these players are every time somebody else has something positive to say about one player or another.

I've had some of those kinds of negative comments follow me after I said something good about Watford. For instance, look at this:

upload_2023-4-9_16-5-8.png

that was Aminu's first season in Portland when he was an 82 game starter. Now obviously, He was facing better players, mostly, so that's some important context. But some other important context is that was Aminu's 6th season and he was more than 3 years older. Watford is 22 with some encouraging upside

But Watford is better, across the board, statistically. That DOES NOT mean I think Watford should be a starter. But it does mean when I say that Watford has a chance to develop into a pretty solid backup, anybody who is quick to say he never could be that is full of shit

I think if our front office feels confident that they've made a big enough move or moves by the time free agency hits that they believe this team will compete for HCA then it's worth signing Jerami. Whether or not their assessment of what they have will be accurate is another story.

I'm really in a wait and see mode. I said in a different thread like a week ago that I don't think that Jerami has out performed his current deal but I also don't think he has under performed. So I think a good deal for us would be him starting next season making a million more than Ant makes with raises over the five years. I don't expect Joe to make a good deal like that. He has continued the Olshey tradition of bidding against ourselves. I'm just not going to be mad when a five year 170M deal is announced because that's what I think is coming... it should be 5 years at 135M and I think he'd be hard pressed to find a four year deal from another team with that much annually. That being said, I like certain things about him, I think the deal has already been struck. So I'm trying to be cool with it.

My friend bought tickets for this game awhile back, and I told her a couple weeks ago it's gonna be a really shitty game and just hope that the warriors have something to play for so you at least get to see 3 hall of famers.

Her texts (and mind you she is not a basketball fan at all):

"Wtf is this shit"

"Lol man they fucking suck"

"Yep. They reached 150. Wtf."

"This is so stupid."

My feeling is the Blazers need to re-sign Grant at that figure because otherwise they lose him for nothing. They lose that monetary slot on the roster and can't fill it from outside because of the cap situation.

In a vacuum, and in a perfect world, I'm not sure I'd have traded for Grant, either. I went back and forth on this. I didn't think it was a good investment to start with, then he had a pretty good half-a-season and I changed my mind, and then he fell off a cliff the last couple of months he played and looked to me like one of these guys that just have the Blazers treading water.

However, he's at least an OK player, and re-signing him at least leaves the door open to trade that cap spot for someone that might be part of the answer, eventually.

I don't think they'll unload Sharpe. I think Dame recognizes what he's probably going to become and is smart enough to realize that's the player on the roster most likely to help him get the Blazers to the top.

That doesn't mean they won't overpay in a panic trade, just that I don't think there are enough clueless people in the organization to make Sharpe a part of that trade.

Just about the same time it came out he was dating the kardashian chick...

Grant played good to start the year, but there seemed to be a point in the season where he just was...there. Kinda felt like someone who didn't invest in the team.

I really don’t want to sign him.

How about a nice sign-and-trade.

I say it before and I’ll say it again. NFL teams that out of the playoffs still plays hard and they play their starters compared to the NBA. NFL cared about their fan base.
This is simply NOT true.

It sure seemed like the Warriors were determined to rub it in as much as possible in that game. Them playing their starters so much the first three quarters, in the last game of the regular season, against G-leaguers, with such a ridiculous lead, felt like a vendetta, and completely classless. We've lost quite a few fairly close games where the other team took the air out of the ball at the end. I may have a new favorite team to hate.

I went to the game. I couldn't believe all the "ooh and ahs" out of the many Warrior fans there. I felt like i was listening to a porno movie. The Warriors , with all their hot dogging , and making an emphasis on showing up the G League Blazer lineup with fancy dribbling & juke moves , was more annoying than the bricks being hoisted by the Blazers. OOOOOH, AAAAAHHHH. I needed a cigarette.
