Ayton needs to stay out of foul trouble. He shouldn't be putting his coach/team in that position.
Coach is the guy who benches him with fouls and manages his minutes. He should have sat with 2-3 first half ..any coach would manage that better

Sure. If Ayton were an inexperienced rookie needing that lesson, I'm all for it.

Ayton is a vet, going up against a below average starting center. He should not put his coach/team in the position of having to make that choice. If Billups benched every player who did unacceptable, low IQ things, we wouldn't have had 5 guys on the court.

And what are we saving Ayton for anyway? So what if he fouls out in a 30pt blowout?

Foul trouble is capped early by any decent coach. Doesn't matter why or how or who got into foul trouble...Nurk would sit with two fouls until the 3rd qtr...Ayton should have as well. Billups fucked up and nobody is talking about "every player", we're talking about a starter in foul trouble

Ayton's 3rd foul early in 1st half was bad team defense. 7ft lunker Zubac ran a 1 man fast break and nobody stepped up to guard him. DA was behind the play and ended up fouling Zubac from behind in the chase. Ayton looked around saying... what are ya'll doing?!?

Foul trouble is capped early by a smart center as well.

I'm not sure Ayton getting his 4th foul in the 2nd quarter is in the top ten of the Blazers biggest issues.

I agree about the team defense being a huge issue that would not have been fixed by benching Ayton with 3 fouls.

Fans have been blaming the Blazers head coach for the teams short-comings for 30 years now...

but I mean didnt Zubac destoy scoot in that 1st q?Its all Billups fault? Billups is so incompetent he served Zubac up with some softballs? cuz that seems disingenuous if u ask me.. it seemed to me like Zubac fought hard n just was better tonight, n deserves credit.. they sure were more prepared, as ud expect an mvp winning vet point guard like russ, to be vs a rookie starter in his debut..

we need to fire billups cuz he didnt have his rookie starting pg prepared to outduel the former mvp in game 1?

cuz yall seem to be trying to squeeze blood from a stone!!!
No, the opposing team has nothing to do with my opinion of Billup's coaching abilities.

I'd love nothing more than for him to prove me wrong.

We want him to get used to playing with the young guys.

Love Sheed, but Dunleavy is in the upper half of the coaches this franchise has had over the past 30 years.

It seemed like Bob blamed him too. Especially blamed him for not playing Jermaine.

Chauncey Billups won a championship ring as a starting PG, was an all-star.. He's proven... Nowadays I'm sure he wouldnt want prove you wrong, he'd want his players to... Chauncey will score 0 points this season he retired decades ago..

but in the same vein...

CHAUNCEY CAN DRAW THE GREATEST OUT OF BOUNDS PLAY OF ALL TIME.. and the inbounds passer can botch the pass.. n so the play looks botched.. but it seems to me the negative nancies round here would promptly call the greatest out of bounds play of all time a bad play because the player didnt execute it --- n thats where it becomes foolish n unrealistic, which is why i bring up the idiom --- trying to squeeze blood from a stone..

some people just need to explain things thru scapegoats.. which is how the media winds a lot of people up so its fairly common..
the-simpson-people.gif

they dont want to look further than finding some scapegoat to blame..

i think its more that sort of thing than anything that happened in this particular game.. if ya ask me..

cuz these scapegoat people, they never want to listen to reason that "there's a lot more to unpack" these scapegoat people almost always are just hellbent on finding someone else to blame.. so they can sit there n point n laugh like nelson muntz..

Just because you are a championship player doesn't mean you will or can make a good head coach.

I'm not taking about running plays. I'm talking about guys getting back on defense or making effort to get out to 3pt shooters. Not making multiple rainbow passes in a single possession which, surprise surprise, ended up getting picked off.

They are out there playing lazy, half-assed basketball, and that's why they were down 30+.

Billups is leaving those lazy players on the court because he either doesn't have a problem with it or he doesn't know how to fix it.

And I'd really love to see our points guard bringing the ball up the court rather than our shooter doing it.

He scores.

What else does he do?

I'm going to assume your question implies you don't think he does anything else.

21/5 as a starting SG isn't terrible. So he can score on and off the ball, create for others at times, and reduce help-side defenders effectiveness.

Have you read his book?

If I recall correctly, Bob hired Dunleavy. I don't believe Dunleavy felt he had the job security to develop young players with the championship window being open. Turns out, he was right. Bob thought Mo Cheeks was a better replacement.
