Game Thread 2023-24 Game #21 - BLAZERS VS MAVERICKS - DECEMBER 8, 2023 - FRIDAY - 7:00 PM PST - ROOT

I think Scoot and Toumani must own stock in a basketball rim paint company. They spent all night chipping paint with bricks

in last 2 games, Sharpe had 33 shots; Ant had 48

should be the opposite. I’ve been calling for more Sharpe looks going on 3 games

Ant looked great tonight but Shaedon is currently the best player on the roster and if our coaching staff is capable of making adjustments on the fly (like they should be) more sets will be run to get Shae shots than Ant. I think both can coexist as long as the team gets the pecking order right. Scoot is a work in progress and needs a lot of work but he has so much promise. I think eventually the team will have to choose between an Ant/Shae back court and a Scoot/Shae back court but I doubt that will be this season unless some team blows us away with a trade offer for Scoot or Ant.

I'm hoping that Tou's three starts falling, sure at 23 the guy could still add to his tool kit but the shot doesn't look broken so he needs to start knocking down wide open looks, the same for Bari. I would say that I can't wait to see what we look like with Jerami, Malcolm and Deandre back but the only one I'm really interested in adding to this mix at this point is Deandre. Both Malcolm and especially Jerami are just going to take opportunities away from the guys who need to get reps. Both guys have already shown they can be incredibly effective starters in this league and are worth their salaries. I'll just grit my teeth and bare it while they take reps away from our young studs until we can move them both for a really good return or returns.

Had to have been a fun game for an Aussie.
Four Aussies out there, would have been five if Green was fit. Doncic obviously respects them because he would’ve had three on his team had they signed Tisse. Doncic had such a rough time playing against them in Tokyo that he wanted them all on his team so he didn’t have to face them. Exum, Green, Tisse could all be starting for Australia in Paris.

I’m very impressed with how Reath has been going in the NBA. I knew that his offence would hold up, but his defence has always been his weakness. Slow feet laterally, and poor rotation. But he’s really improved, which is not only great for him and the Blazers, but also Australia.

I’m sure with Kamara it might just be a fatigue thing. If you watch him, he spends so much time chasing down the opposing teams best offense.

Thybulle does too. He seems to have the 3 dialed in. I’ve been impressed with him this year

oh okay..

Should we be sympathetic?
Hell no !! Dallas is horse poop. They'll probably start choking soon, Luka's bad calves will flair up, and Mark Cuban will be giggling after the new owners find a lump of coal called the Mavs in their stockings.

0-3 when Ant plays without Grant, Ayton and Brogdon. Just sayin’ there’s more at play here than Ant’s return.

When Sharpe turns 24 we're going to be hearing the same ridiculous slander. It's like clockwork.

What? You want to deny it? Scoots shooting is historycal bad, not even Shaedon was on that level

Maybe I don't know what that word means, but I'm going to go out on a limb and mark your post as:

well, we've heard a ton of the context-free 'how Ant performed without Dame' over the last 2 years, so some context-free 'how the team performs with Ant' seems like a match

Agreed... both are equally over-simplistic and provide minimal value.

I don't know if this is even allowed, but I'm going to say it anyway: Ant and Sharpe were both very good tonight.

Duop Reath won the Alaska Airlines dunk of the game. I think it was the only Blazers dunk tonight. Dallas outscored Portland 62-30 in the paint.

Blazers got the edge in a few categories. Steals, rebounds, fast break points, 3pt%. Portland just gave up a whole lotta filthy Mavs dunks, layups, and bunnies. Dallas shot 52% FG compared to Portland's 37% FG Nurkic nightmare flippers around the hoop.

It's been a winning strategy for most our opponents.
He’s shooting 40%. Our opponents have nothing to do with it. Our own team isn’t getting him the ball. Someone shooting 40% should get more than 5 looks.

This is just ridiculous. People have been slandering Simons for years. Not sure why 24 matters.

Size was a huge issue. I was watching the game in person and it was noticeable. We lost this game when we didn’t continue to attack the bigs and get them in foul trouble. The tides turned in the third when Lively had 4 fouls and Powell had 5. Game pretty much changed when Morris was on the floor.

Yup. Not having Grant and Ayton really throws our whole rotation out of whack.

Our opponents do have something to do with him shooting 40% though. His teammates in Portland have got him more FGA and 3FGA (per game) than any other teammates in his entire career.

I like Thybulle. His shooting in his first 40 games in Portland has been fantastic. His other 250 games suggest he's unlikely to maintain 40% shooting and I don't think he needs/wants to be a volume shooter. I do think our opponents would prefer Thybulle taking a large volume of shots over Ant/Sharpe/etc. and for good reason.

Yes, some started early (just like some are with Sharpe). By the time Sharpe is 24, there will be plenty of Sharpe slander on here, and it will be silly. I don't make the rules.

Portland shot more 3's then deuces.
53-52. That game was wild. Blazers unleashed 105 total shots this evening.

Then you let him keep shooting until he proves it’s an anomaly. 40 games in this system is plenty proof that he can hit them and he looks extremely confident when he shoots. Gotta keep feeding him until he proves otherwise. Especially if they keep leaving him wide open.

Or... if it's working, don't mess with it!

Two brownies taste good and are a nice treat. Ten brownies will make you sick!

I don't miss Derrick Jones Jr, at all...

Guy was making $1.5m before us and $2.7 after us, but Olshey thought he was worth $9.5?!?
wait... whaaaah??? I wasn't in P-Town for a couple years back then. Fricken Neil throwing Allen Crabbe contracts at the wall, see which one might stick.
