Happy Gravy Day!

How to Make Gravy: why Paul Kelly's Christmas song is a uniquely Australian institution

It's four days before Christmas. The 21st of December. There's one question on every Australian's lips — who's gonna make the gravy?

Despite being released 27 years ago, Paul Kelly's 1996 song How to Make Gravy remains an Aussie Christmas institution.

If you didn't grow up in Australia, don't know much about folk music or if your parents just didn't listen to Kelly, don't worry — here's everything you need to know about Gravy Day, plus a recipe to make your own.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-12-21/how-to-make-gravy-paul-kelly-gravy-day/103249536

Should be favored....but the only other game we were favored in all year, we were blown out by Utah.
We are favored for the second time this season and it's by 3.5 points right now, which isn't much more than the 1.5 points we were favored by against the Jazz. Also, Shaedon is listed by ESPN as OUT for the game.

Wizards got a good rookie. Been hearing some nice stuff about Coulibaly. Other then that, the Wizards... LOL

Is this the only team Billups has a winning record against as head coach?

No Sharpe today. Scoot probably starts.

I would give the Brogdon-Ant backcourt another shot. On paper, it seems like the best backcourt option right now.

For winning yeah, but they seem to be committed to fast tracking Scoot's development still.

Also, if they can't beat the Wizards with Scoot starting, what are they doing?

Yeah I know I just don't think starting him makes a difference in his development. As long as he continues to get around 30 minutes a game he will continue to improve at the same pace.

If Brogdon is starting, I want to see more assists from Simons. He'll. have 3 players on the team, and 2 players in the starting lineup who on average are more efficient scorers than he is: Ayton, Grant, and Thybulle off the bench.

He'll have 2 guys (Brogdon and Grant) who are better 3-point shooters than he is. In the last game Brogdon was 4-9, Grant was 3-4, and Simons was 2-7 on threes. Thybulle was 2-3.

Having 7 assists in 38 minutes (while shooting 9-23) isn't very good when Brogdon, Grant, and Thybulle are shooting well from outside.

In his new role with new teammates, Simons doesn't need to force shots to look for his "heater" to show up. He needs to find his teammates if they're knocking down shots.

Is that true?
Actually, it's not true. Brogdon isn't as efficient scoring as Simons.
But Brogdon is shooting 3-pointers significantly better than Simons.

Here is a fun fact. Simons and Brogdon have around the same Ast% and TO%. They're both higher % than Scoot, who also has twice the turnover %.

The thing with assists is teammates need to actually make shots.

Simons is 14th in the league in potential assists per game, and 8th in secondary assists per game. 20th in the league in passes made.

Radio guys said Thybulle is 1st or 2nd in the NBA in deflections and 2nd in steals. (this was before the last game) Pretty impressive. He is the best 3 and D player we've had in ages. I want this guy to be a Blazer for many years to come. I think they also mentioned we've gone from 9th to 19th in the league in defense since Ant has returned...not a good thing.

I kind of see it the opposite way. When you start two pgs wouldn't they then be sharing the duties when they are on the floor together? That is actually why I like the combo playing together. I can see Ant's scoring go up..... not his assists.

I have an extra ticket for the game tonight. No charge (maybe buy me a gin and tonic). 200 level….my nephew can’t make it tonight :(

uh oh... potential assists ... don't do it, it's not a real stat. Steph Curry would average 30 assists a night for his career, if the Warriors didn't mess everything up. LeBron James would average 50 points a night for his career, if he made every single "potential basket".

Let me know if anyone wants to go. We can meet at Moda. We don’t even have to talk to each other :)

I am only referring to the previous game against Phoenix where Simons played 38 minutes and shot 9 - 23. 7 assists in 38 minutes is low in my opinion if Simons is a good point guard.

Other players shot:
Camara 2-4 (1-1 three-pointers)
Grant 8-15 (3-4)
Ayton 6-18 (0-0)
Walker 3-3 (1-1)
Reath 1-1 (1-1)
Brogdon 5-10 (4-9)
Thybulle 2-3 (2-3)
Henderson 2-9 (0-2)

If I weren't just getting over COVID and taking care of my now-secondarily-infected wife, I'd take you up on that. Of course, I think I might have gotten it from the last game I attended, so maybe not.
