I don't care how rich he gets either, except for wealth-inequality concerns generally.
The bigger problem is that he'll be 'in charge' of deciding how much the government spends on his companies. That's not kosher.

Agreed....if it happens.

A 22-minute video from a comedian talking politics? It would be best if you gave me the cliff notes.
I did like him on "Community" though.

His research staff is pretty good. If you don't like the snark, the informational value on his stuff is pretty high. Started down this path working on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, who actually is better than some purported TV news magazines.

We're in this weird position of having one of the best if not THE best living standards in the world and yet our people feel they still are getting screwed over.

I wonder if part of that is that we still have such a wealth gap and rules not seeming to apply to people like Trump and Musk and then being told BY Trump and Musk that their money is being taken away by (insert at-risk group that none of them have ever met). People still think they should have more, and I think they could have more. There's no reason in this country that we can't do something about healthcare. Harris' sandwich generation idea was doable and very popular. We should be able to do things about post-secondary education costs.

If we can enact programs to hold back people who aren't doing anything that hurts us, we surely can enact programs that help people.
I hate to break it to you but every European I’ve met here says our standard of living is mediocre and everything is like twice as expensive here.

And they don't get sent to the poor house if they need to see a doctor.

And they aren't penalized for getting an education.

You aren't breaking anything to me, Beagle. Most of my family lives in Europe and I've been there multiple times.

Interesting couple of sites to look at when talking about 'standard of living' ... obviously the USA isn't first by a mile but still ranking awfully high in a lot of metrics.

https://www.theglobaleconomy.com/rankings/GDP_per_capita_PPP/

https://www.oecdbetterlifeindex.org/countries/united-states/
And I'd argue lack of public transportation and walkable cities is much of the reason the US standard of living is as low as it is.

The rest is mostly due to our horrible social safety net, IMO.

So why lie about our standard of living?

Wow.

I'm lying about the standard of living?

I'm going to try to be nice about this and tell you you're not that knowledgeable about it and maybe you shouldn't say someone's on your side because they have better information than you.

I don't care what your friends tell you.

Now, I'm done standing up for you. I don't care what you think. When you call someone a liar like that, to me, that makes you no better than Beast and Johnny.

Have a great day and please never address me again.

I've probably typed this out only once or twice on this board, so it's been many years since the last time, so here goes again.

Those of us who were the smartest kid in 4th grade remember the definitions of the word "average." Examples:

Mean average income: A country's total income divided by population.

Median average income: The number at which half of total income is above, and half is below.

I hope I don't have to draw graphs for you to intuitively understand that:

If 95% of a country's wealth is owned by 1% of the population, the mean average is high, but not the median average.

U.S. mean, but not median, average income is high compared to more egalitarian European countries.

We are the "richest country on Earth" only if you let our class system imbalance skew the average.

Dude. Costco yesterday had zero parking spots available. Around lunch time too. Complete mad house.

Is there some reason for that? People buying turkeys early? Or Doritos before Kennedy bans them?

Look, if you guys really want to know why Kamala lost, and Hillary before her, this is why.

I'm sure this is just a coincidence.

Food for thought. I think it goes to what I say about Democrats struggle with messaging. There's definitely a blind spot.

Yeah, that's good. Nobody who had anything to do with the Biden presidency was going to be a good candidate.

Many of those states are vote-by-mail.

Oregon is a vote-by-mail and a motor voter state.

After the Real ID regulations went into effect, we've all had to go to the DMV because they increased the documentation requirements for getting or renewing our licenses.

To get a REAL ID in Oregon, you must provide the following:
  • Proof of identity
A U.S. passport, passport card, birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, consular report of birth abroad, permanent resident card, or employment authorization card. You can also use a foreign passport with a valid I-94 and unexpired visa.

  • Proof of Social Security number
Your Social Security number or proof that you are not eligible for one. You can provide the number verbally.

  • Proof of address
Two documents from different sources that show your name and current Oregon address. You can use a mortgage, rental agreement, monthly rental receipt, or letter from a hotel, motel, campground, or recreational vehicle park.

  • Payment
    A $30 fee.

Seems like the state of Oregon has enough information about me to mail me a ballot.

The amount of hypocrisy from these people. I remember them crying their eyes out about Twitter being politically left and how it must be neutral. Then Elon buys it and they all have a circle jerk.

And he promised to make it neutral. It's basically just another truth social now.

Last election finally decided. In Central California Democrat Adam Gray flipped seat from Republican incumbent by 187 votes. Sometimes every vote does count.

Republicans now have one seat majority with three resignations.
