Portland has interest in Knecht, Topic, Cody Williams, Edey (upcoming workout), Kyshawn George

Good seeing Kyshawn on that list. I don't understand why he is so far down the list on the mock drafts.
Maybe someone can tell me what the knock on him is. But I would have no problem taking him at 14....he can easily play 3 positions.

Average athleticism, mediocre production in college. He seems to have all the tools for the mold, but he hasn't actually shown that he can do what teams would want him to do.

Yeah I can see where the lack of athleticism could be a worry, but to me he looks like a 3 & D type player who can handle the ball, pass and has excellent 3 pt range.

Ron Holland has workouts with teams slotted at 15 and 17. What am I missing here? He's a top 10 pick at worst in my mind.

Is he this season's Eason/Whitmore?

If available at 14 and we let him go, I will be disappointed. When in doubt, bet on athleticism.
Plays a lot like Butler. If we draft a big at 7 and RH is there at 14, we take him! If we go a 2/3 and Ware is there at 14?

I agree, and he's one of the guys that makes me wish the Blazers would trade for a 3rd pick in the teens. I'm just saying, that's why he's not considered a consensus lottery talent

That's interesting. There's no way we can let him slide past us at #14. Our hand would be forced at that point, Topic being available notwithstanding.

Agreed.

Honestly, I think he's a top 5 in this class.
Watching film, he is one of the most impressive players in this class (IMO). He has holes in his game, but I think they are fixable. He plays with a lot of heart & energy. He was also one of the best producing players based on my statistical analysis.

after watching a ton of film on salaun....

holy hell, he's not close to contributing in a few years. need a ton of faith in the developmental staff. the potential downside is really high with this dude. i think there are very obvious and distinct tiers between him and risacher.

It's just practically near impossible for a player to not have ball handling and develop it in the NBA at a competent level, especially within the context that they'll be able to use it on the floor to get shots (it's more than simply being able to dribble in a vacuum, mind you).

He'll probably be very similar to Travis Outlaw, as a prospect, where he throws it down with authority and has long strides in motion/tremendous athleticism while also being able to catch and shoot a semi-unblockable jumpshot due to his length. Everyone is giddy about the day he'll finally arrive but due to lacking that ball handling and capability to move in multiple directions while handling, he just doesn't become much more than a fun 13-15ppg type role player.

Speaking of consensus mocks... anyone interested in contributing to a forum mock draft? I figure if a bunch of people PM me their top 14, I could compile them tonight and toss that out for review and discussion.

My Prediction (Dillingham and Buzelis fall, Castle+Carter promised, Topic ACL scares teams, Hawks surprise with Clingan):

1. Clingan
2. Sarr
3. Sheppard
4. Castle
5. Risacher
6. Holland
7. Williams
8. Topic
9. Edey
10. Knecht
11. Carter
12. Ware
13. Salaun
14. Smith

excellent! Draft that kid. No point in trying to win games until the entire league starts to crumble. Aim for that 2029-32 playoff era, go Blazers !!

By 2029-32, you do realize that every player on the current roster will be gone. Free agency or via trade or simply no longer in the league.

The way I see it...not really what I want to happen with respect to PTB- Not sure about 7?

1. Hawks - Sarr
2. Wiz - Risacher
3. Rockets - Clingan
4. Spurs - Dillinham
5. Pistons - Sheppard
6. Hornets - Castle
7. Blazers - Williams
8. Spurs - Buzellis
9. Grizz - Edey
10. Jazz - Salaun
11. Bulls - Holland
12. Thunder - McCain
13. Kings - Knecht
14. Ware

It's my super duper optimistic take. It's what i learned from "the other" Blazers fan forum.

-Scoot will be full All-Star mode
-Anfernee top 6 scoring leader
- Shaedon suprises everyone by morphing into Dominique Wilkins
- The new rookies will all become 3 way super kids. Basically different sizes and variations of Paolo Banchero.

2029 is only 5 years away. Then and only then will Cronin's championship vision become too radical for the league to contain.

Now.. please green box my comment with a bunch of likes. It feels great to be part of the "positive only" team.

They got us a 6-1 guard. Hmmm

draft the Wildcat point guard. The Rob & Ashton backcourt off the bench would be intense. All Kentucky all day ! Can we still count Shaedon's no show as a Wildcat ?

No they have a mock draft. This is just their big board. Who they think the best players in this draft are. There were 100 all together but I didn't feel like fucking with anything after number 70.

They got us a 6-1 guard. Hmmm
if Rob is better then Skylar Mays, and Jamaree Bouyea, then the Blazers will show improvement. Backup Point Guard is hella important, and the Blazers need help at every position.

14. Ware

I hope you are right. I would love to have Williams, Buzelis and Holland to choose from. Which one is the question.

My latest thought, and it changes daily, is going with Holland at 7 and hope to hell his offense develops enough to close games.
I would love to watch Scoot, Sharpe, Holland, and Camara run the floor. Or even move Holland to PF on occasion and sub in another shooter. (Maybe Rupert or George?

Watching highlights of George and his ability to throw a really nice lob pass (i.e Holland and Sharpe) and his ability to play several positions, I think he would be a good alternative to Holland at the wing. He has excellent range on his 3 ball

I'm so out on Buzelis. Limited vision, weak on strength, very shaky shot, turnover prone, limited ball handling skills. The attractive thought with him was if he could be some kind of Lamar Odom-type. But he's nowhere near.

I think scarcity matters - Holland, Salaun, Williams, Ware, Castle, Clingan are the guys I'm most interested in with 7 and 14. I'm only focused on guys who are projected to be a plus on defense and that have size and length. In the case of Castle, Clingan, Salaun and Holland, I think all have the potential to be culture guys too.

We've been so removed from having a functional basketball team since the days of Dame and CJ. They should assume Scoot and Shae will blossom and get players who can make the game easier for them.

Which Mock Draft do we believe?

I don't know which is the most accurate. Back in the day, it was NBADraft.net, but they have declined precipitously.

What I would be VERY happy with is if it turned out the way NBADraftRoom currently had theirs.

#7 - Salaun
#14 - Holland
#34 - Chomche
#40 - Flowers
(although with the players they have available, I'd prefer one of:

  • Dillon Jones
  • Adem Bona
  • Enrique Freeman
  • Jonathan Mogbo (fascinating journey)
  • Harrison Ingram

Funny part about that I can just as easy see us taking Holland at #7 and Salaun at #14.
If I could only have one, I think I would choose Ron...

61. Quinten Post

Quinten Post is an interesting 7' sharpeshooter that moves on D.

Not with any of our picks, but, worth a shot if we could snag a late second.

Why not aim for at least a future legit starter with the 7th pick. Sharpe, Dame, BRoy picked in that range
because everyone gets mad at this draft. It's been a broken record of calling this summer a subpar rookie class. They tell us the #7 pick this season is more or less a Jaquez Jr, a Kris Murray, a Camara. You'd be lucky to find a Duop Reath.

Now... how many times have the draft experts been completely wrong? What if this draft class turns out much better then expected? There's only one way to find out, which is choose your rookies and get them on the court.
