Clingan is nothing like Meyers. What an awful comparison. He's more like Joel Pryzbilla.

People that want to draft him compare him to Brook Lopez. They think he’ll be some kind of floor spacer. I’m not comparing him to Meyers. I said he’ll be more like Meyers, than Lopez.

i mean, let's be real, people like to compare white guys to other white guys.

the guy who clingan reminds me of is roy hibbert.

just to clarify, I wasn't saying that Lively/Gafford are better than Gobert/KAT; just that they fit a modern NBA roster better and are at minimum, just as impactful. In that playoff series, the big rotations were KAT+Gobert+Reid at 90M in salary vs Gafford + Lively at 17M. That saved 73M allowed for a lot of options elsewhere...like Kyrie

I don't have a big problem with Clingan being a Blazer C. I do have a big problem with Ayton + Timelord + Clingan + Reath all being Blazer C's. That would be over 55M in salary; nearly 40% of the cap. And there's not a mobile C in that quartet

If Gobert and KAT were on Dallas does Dallas win? I think so. They had the best player in the series: Luka.

I appreciate mobility at the 5 spot too, but if they think Clingan can have a Gobert like career, you'd have to be happy with coming away with that in this draft. I hope that they know more than I do in terms of Clingan.

My preference right now is probably Salaun or Holland at 7 and Ware or Cody Williams at 14.

exactly...having the 'best' big or bigs isn't the key, unless they are a generational talent like Jokic. The best wings seem to always trump the best bigs in the new NBA

and again, I think using Gobert as the ceiling for Clingan is nuts. Gobert is a 4-time DPOY; a 7 time all-NBA 1st team defense; a 4-time all-NBA member. Saying Clingan can match that is fantasy run amok. He's not a realistic ceiling for Clingan. Zubac and Poeltl are realistic ceilings

I'd be surprised if Clingan isn't a better rim deterrent than the guys you mentioned. Would you fault them if they didn't love anyone else near the top of the draft?

I could see a world where Clingan would be great with Scoot and Shae, but what do I know. My preference is for mobility, but how many of us would rather have Capella over Gobert leaving out the salary?

Making these comps rarely works out because someone inevitably bucks the trend.

I've said before I'd be kind of ok with drafting Clingan at 7....just as long as the Blazers dump Ayton

I'd still rather take a flyer on Ware

Now that more video is coming out I’m revising my pick for seven if Portland stays there. As I’ve said, in this draft if you find a player you like, take him regardless if it is projected to be “too high.” With that said, I like Tidjane Salaun at 7, with Ware at 14 still. Salaun has a good looking shot, is tall and can play the three and four. Ware looks like he will be able to play the four and five.

I'd be happy with this. Added size with needed skill sets.

this is kind of where I've landed....although a big part of the motivation is not wanting Clingan

but I absolutely think the Blazers have to swing for the fences in their draft picks. Grab guys with the highest upside potential. And it would be much better if they were wings and stretch-4's. From everything I've seen, that would be Salaun at 7 and Ware at 14

No doubt Ware has some impressive physical tools, but he seems to not process the game very quickly and moves too much like many bigs that have busted in the pass (ie Skal, Wiseman). Shows up most in 2v1 help situations/ when he has to react quickly, but with discipline.

Add that he doesn't seem to really know where he's bread is going to be buttered offensively and it's a pass for me.

Can't buy the Lively comps at all either. Loved Lively for his motor, processing on both ends and self awareness offensively. All areas where Ware struggles currently.

I like Lively but I wonder how this board would feel about him if he was a Blazer. Can't shoot 3s (0-2) Free throws (50%) or rebound 6.9 per game.
My guess is we would still like him....until he got paid.

I know a good part of the shifting the draft to two days was to increase movement, or give executives more time between rounds/picks, but I gotta also believe part of it is due in large part to the popularity of the NFL draft.
So they put round 2 on at 1 pm local time on a Thursday? wtf?

NBA doesn't give a FUCK about the west coast.
