To be fair, he was the centerpiece of the Dame trade and Dame is not playing, so very noble of Miami to go that way.

Clingan out, Bam out...
For the first time, I had a bad thought. What if Caleb looks at all the point guards on this team and decides to wait out this season. He'll be a free agent and maybe he wants a team where there is a clearer path to # 1 PG........or at least a more secure spot as # 2?

Yes that's a big loss for them - he's almost as good as Caleb Love.

What do you mean by "wait out this season?"
Caleb Love certainly wants to have his two way deal converted to a full NBA contract as he will earn 10x as much money this season. In about 20 games it'll automatically convert.
The better he plays the rest of the year the more he can also earn this summer as a free agent.

Wouldn't 10 x as much this season equate to 6 million? Both he and Sidy are making 656.000 this year.
I don't see how that is doable.

I assume that the Blazers would try to sign him (Love)to a multi year contract now, so yes he could get more money right now but he might prefer to wait for more long-term money and opportunities as a free agent.

I think this ties into what I have been thinking lately: there are consequences to having older PGs on your roster like Jrue and Lillard. Hopefully Cronin can come up with some way to resolve this.

I don't follow. What does their age have to do with it? We still need 5-6 guards for depth purposes.
How often do we find an undrafted rookie and 2 other young players who were disregarded by other teams that we really want to keep? One thing about Joe and Mike they keep bringing in all these young players to see if they can find a diamond in the rough.
Love, Wesley, Sidy......I like them all. But I also like Jrue and Dame

I guess the problem with aging players, with the exception of LeBron, is that at some point their energy and athleticism begins to deteriorate quite rapidly. I prefer assets that are appreciating over those that are depreciating.

I'm not sure what you are saying. Cissoko is 21, Love is 24. How do we find room for all these young players. I am just saying it will be difficult but hoping that somehow Cronin can do it.

That is true, but I like having both. I never subscribed to the whole one timeline thing. I like having savvy vets teaching the young guys how to win. But yes, older players with huge contracts are a problem. Dame with a 14 million contract is not a problem. Jrue with 2+ years at 34, 37 M per year is....... because he is breaking down. However, if you have enough young guns, you don't need to play him big

- The 2-way player can play up to 50 regular season games.
- Other NBA teams cannot sign other team's 2-way players during the season.
- The original team can convert a 2-way contract to a standard NBA contract at any time, often doing this to lock in a player for playoffs. (open roster spots of course needed)
- The Blazers have the option to offer Sidy or Love a qualifying offer (equal to the 1-year minimum) to retain their rights to match any free agent offer they may get. The qualifying offer must be made by June 29.
During the off-season, would Sidy or Love get an offer from another team above the minimum? If so, would the Blazers go much above the minimum to retain them?

Good. He needs to take time to get his back in shape. It was obvious he was still in pain. Remember Kiki's chronic back problems? Playing with an injured back is no bueno.

If i understand minimums correctly, Love's would be just over $2 milllion and Sidy's almost 2,4 million. I could see some club offering more. And I could see the Blazers going a couple million higher for each if they maintain present production.
