Game Thread 2025 PRESEASON GAME #1 - BLAZERS @ WARRIORS - WED- OCT 8 2025 - 7:00 PM PST - NBA TV - BV - KUNP

watching parts of the game and watching Sharpe, and remembering what he did last season without Ant, that Simons trade may open up Sharpe's game pretty significantly. Too bad Scoot is hurt

Prince? sure. Battier? sure again

Pippen? no. Pippen ran the offense of a 6 time NBA champion. Camara will not develop that component of his game that much. He may become a decent secondary facilitator...may....but he won't be the primary initiator. It's also worth noting that Pippen was a 7-time All-NBA player, including 3 first team selections; and an 11-time All-Defense player including 9 first team selections
Jimmy Butler maybe?

It doesn’t count, but it’s really a shame that Portland didn’t win this game. We were clearly the better team with our rotation players in the game. You’ve all waited long enough, so here are my observations

Love the offense. Way more motion

Love the defense. We are pests

Sharpe was clearly our best player. If he doesn’t start….well, you know

Camara looked good. Should be one of everyone’s top two players on the team this year

Clingan made 2 layups, which equaled last years total. Looked slightly more mobile…maybe?

Holiday’s offensive game was a bit rough, but he was a pest on defense

Grant is trash. Ball movement stopped when he touched the ball. Get him off the floor. ESPECIALLY with the starters. Him being a +8 should be a clue that +/- is a worthless stat (not a shtick, he was not good)

Avdija was good, although I thought he played too quick at times.

Yang looked like a rookie.

Murray just can’t do it. He just can’t shoot

Wesley/Love need Scoot to come back so they can get paid to watch basketball from amazing seats

Which ever one of you was talking about Yang being an allstar in two years. Your posting privileges should be revoked FAMS!

I know you're posturing, but come on, Hansen surely had nerves and had to deal with the language barrier and needs time to adjust. He will figure it out. And he's super smart, so you can imagine he's going to watch film and look to correct his mistakes.

The thing about Jrue offensively is that even if it didn't look spectacular, I always had the feeling we were going to run an offense and get a decent shot with him at point, and that's all I'm really asking of him. He brings a presence, a calm, a confidence that you can't really measure in statistics.

Players deserved a win, not a humiliating loss. One coach wants to win, the other apparently thinks losing is OK.

Those mad we lost i do not think are seeing the big picture.
We won this game with our rotation guys. Game over in three. Then we played gleague/end of benchers because its the only time they will get playing time to evaluate without jeopardizing a regular season win.
Now is the time to let the scrubs play and see if there is future potential or not.

This was a win win game.

The regular playing rotation looked good. Just one game, so we'll see how that carries over.

I'm ready to cut Caleb Love, though. He doesn't understand the game and is the one guy who doesn't fit what we're doing in any way whatsoever. Every time I see him in the game, I want to scream.

I feel same way about Love felt that way during summer league. He’s a me guy

I think Chauncey knows what he's doing by bringing Deni off the bench and continuing to start Grant. You can't immediately bench a vet like Grant without him explicitly losing his starting spot. If, after the pre-season, he plays legitimately worse than both Deni and Toumani (which it's looking like), then you can actually approach Grant with the justification for him coming off the bench.

Umm.......Yang is a rookie and this was a preseason game. Goodness people...

New players
New starting lineup
Hard ass defense
New role for Sharpe and he nailed it
Depth looks sic
Murrays stroke looks natural, and better
Boxy with 4/3's?
Blake looks like Kersey streaking downcourt

Positives:
Sharpe looks smooth as silk. Can he keep up that shooting? If so, Blazers are going to have to break the bank.
Camara looks much more comfortable offensively.
Jrue is a real difference-maker
Wesley looks rotation-worthy
Deni looks ready to roll

Negatives:
Clingan looked a bit lost
Yang looked totally lost
Grant, while a bit better, is still a ball-stopper
Rupert is still two years away. Will he be two years away his entire NBA career (which might not be much longer)?

Nice having calming presence at PG. One offensive possession Jrue drove the lane attacking one of his teammates and then kicked ball to that teammate for wide open shot. Such a simple play but so many PG’s are me first players but championship players know this is what it takes.

As far as Grant goes he’s lost his way, he got spoiled being the guy in Detroit and again with the lottery Blazers. His confidence is shot, he desperately needs a new team where he can accept a role as a 3 and D player. There is absolutely no way he should be starting above Sharpe, Toumani, or Deni.

Only way that happens is if we buy him out. And it'll be the Lakers.

Those positives (and you didn't even mention Murray looking competent offensively) are so much greater than those negatives, it's scary. I'm tempted to be optimistic.

Now granted highlights make players look better than they are at times, but Ruperts highlights from the scrimmages made him look like he at least had made the turn.

Last night he just looked like a player that will have a lot of 1 year contracts and be out of the league.

Neither Yang or Clingan did themselves any favors, though neither one was so bad that they should be demoted, etc.

It showed that this team has a load of actual potential (instead of the mythical potential), but that after 1-8, the team drops off (Shaedon, Tou, Deni, Jrue.........Grant, Clingan, Tisse and Yan) there is a Hells Canyonesque drop off in talent.

Cissoko, Love, Cooke and Rupert shouldn't see minutes.

Scoot being back will help a lot, but the lack of offense from Tisse, Clingan and Yan might be difficult to cope with.

I am back east this week, so I missed the 2nd half. I will watch it later. They definitely made things uncomfortable for the Warriors.

Kind of glad the scrubs lost the game late since we play the Warriors in game 2.
I did not want to embarrass them and give them any more motivation than they usually have.

Camara already had 4 fouls by early 2nd quarter. As I mentioned a few days ago, this would be the only reason to justify him not starting. Only one preseason game, but the first two subs came in at the 8-minute mark....so again, does it really matter who starts?

Grant shot poorly, but he was not a ball stopper. He played good D and grabbed more rebounds than normal.
Stop with the buyout talk.....it ain't happening for the simple reason that it would be idiotic with 3 years left on his contract.

Shae looked great.
Murray was 4-5. That was a positive
Wesley looked as fast as advertised. Nice little sparkplug off the bench.
4 turnovers by Yang did not surprise me at all.
