I don't get rooting for this at all. Beating a team with their best player sidelined is not much of an accomplishment. I'm a Blazer fan and a basketball fan. I want Portland to win and I want to watch Wemby play.

I remember when the Blazers beat the Clippers in the first round in 2015-16 when both Chris Paul and Blake Griffen got hurt. It was one the worst things to happen to Portland because management completely misread the result in a feel-good euphoria. That idiotic spending spree in the 2016 off-season was the result
Agree. It’s funny how everyone is so pumped about beating the spurs without Wembanyama. He IS the spurs.

Did we even face Wemby during the regular season? I know we went 1-2 against them and needed 6 3s from Love just to get the 1 win.

Wemby or not, playoff experience for Clingan/Camara/Deni/Sharpe/Scoot is the best thing we could have hoped for this season. I’m all for them getting as much experience as possible and don’t think it matters if it’s due to someone being injured or not. Staying healthy is part of the playoffs.

I see why Sharpe didn’t play in the clutch. He was getting abused down low in the third and didn’t seem mad about it. Then the shove that got challenged. A near-turnover on a lazy pass. He looked uninterested out there.

No Wemby v. PDX in regular season. Or Wemby would have known Jrue would pull the chair out from under him (maybe not, since he didn’t learn in game one).

Sadly that is exactly why he has just about hit his limit. Really seems like a guy who only plays because he gifted at it and the money is great.

Keep hearing well, Blazers won because Spurs didn't have Wemby.
Haven't heard Spurs won because Blazers didn't have Dame.
yeah, good comparison

The freshly DPOY in his prime vs a 36 years old guard who just tore his achilles

Holiday has troubles defending Fox/Harper/Castle, imagine Lillard defending them

Maybe even with Sharpe...

Lillard/Sharpe would be like a red carpet to the basket

He also has missed 11, 36 and 18 games in his first three seasons.

I get a little amused by people diminishing the win because Wembanyama injured himself when the NBA is a team game. He's not always on the floor. Being available is a trait. The Blazers overcame a lot of injuries to make the playoffs this year because they have a roster with multiple guys who can carry the load and multiple ways to win. Our biggest star's only action this year was the All-Star 3-point shooting contest. I haven't heard any other fan bases minimalizing their own accomplishments because they'd have lost to us if Damian Lillard played or Scoot didn't miss 50 games or Shaedon didn't miss the last two months or Jrue was unavailable for several weeks, same as I don't remember teams in 1978 saying no one should be happy about winning the championship because the Blazers would have gone back-to-back if not for Walton's chronic foot issues.

At the very least, a young Blazers team earned a sixth playoff game this year because they were constructed to be able to give themselves a chance even if their top players weren't playing well and they didn't give up down 14 on the road in the fourth quarter.

Why people always try to downplay their own happiness and act like it somehow makes them more realistic or mature always was weird to me. A lot of times, that's not realism, it's just pessimism.

Yeah some people just always want to rip on the Blazers - it is odd.

Spurs have a great team even without Wemby. You don't win 60+ games with only a single star surrounded by spare parts. Fox is a bigger star than anyone on the Blazers, made multiple all star teams. Castle, Harper, Vassel, Kornet - the Spurs have a lot of great rotational players.

Deni doesn't look healthy out there.

This isn't like some 2nd game of a a back to back where the Spurs landed in Portland exhausted at 3am. Every playoff win is a huge accomplishment and teams always try 100% to win.

"That's why his nickname is Downhill Deni." It is?
I feel like NBC is trying to make it so.
