In 2K9, it accepted Turkoglu and Redick and 2 #1's for Diogu, Outlaw and Bayless.

Anyone disputing that could help us out?
 
Maybe it's just me, but why in the world would you want to make a trade?? We've got a great team with a lot of depth, and we're about to begin challenging for a title. Let's leave well enough alone and see how these guys perform this season.

If you're not moving forward, you're moving backwards.

Hopefully Pritchard doesn't make the mistake of thinking (as the Bulls and so many other teams have in the past) that a team doesn't need to make moves to improve.

I'm not saying that the Hedo deal makes sense (I'm not at all a fan of Turkoglu, especially for this Blazers team) but I reject that the Blazers should not be on the lookout, 24/7, to improve the team in the near and long terms.

bad trade, portland doesn't have a dynamic pg option on the game with bayless gone. I rarely play blake and sergio
 
Not against a possible trade, but Hedo and Redick? Barf.

We're already moving forward, that's the point. We're making at least four new additions to the team this year, with Oden, Fernandez, Bayless, and Diogu. That's plenty.
 
I'm glad everyone here is cavalier about a rotation in which our lottery pick probably won't get 6 minutes a game, we are using a 19 y/o French rookie as a starting SF, and an Average at best point guard.

It's quite ostrich-like how many of you want "no more trades". Even KP has gotten off of the "let the cake bake" bandwagon. Why can't you?

Look, I'm not saying it's the best trade ever, but it seems pretty short-sighted to say that this team can't get better. Maybe this trade doesn't do that. I put it up as something I was surprised would happen.

BTW...don't confuse the fact that Redick didn't get off the bench with the opinion that he sucks. Are you saying this team isn't being built around having a dominant interior presence and guys that can light it up from three? Whatever you want to say about Redick, he only shoots 40% from three in really limited minutes. And Turkoglu was only the last guy left off the all-star team. And 2 first round picks. For one guy who's being universally claimed as "being the first guy traded" (9th in the league at his position of "6th Man Gunner"), one guy who'll get 6 minutes a game and one guy who'll get less than that, but will hose our cap space plan unless he's renounced for nothing.
 
Oh yeah, and it's not like we have one of the most innovative and successful GM's in recent history sitting in the front office. Let's tie his hands, because we got 4 new players!

Every team makes changes every year. As soon as ANY team says, "We're good enough" then it is asking to be passed by teams that are looking to improve.

The "let's see what we have!"/"no trades!" attitude is a strategy that is doomed to fail and I'm glad that KP does not ascribe to it.

I don't want to tie KP's hand and I'm sure he is listening to any trade offers. I just can't see us making a trade until closer to the trade deadline unless something better then this trade comes up. I can see some team (Mil, Mia, NJ etc) season already over at the deadline and wanting to just dump a big contract. There are many veteran players that might be traded at the deadline. I think we have a great chance to trade for most of them with LaFrenz contract and with him being injured is even better for the other team because the insurance picks up a large portion of his remaining contract. I'm just not sure which teams and what star veterans will be available but I'm sure there will be more then one and we have a good as chance as anyone of trading for him. Why trade now before we even see what we need? I don't want to trade Bayless yet unless we are getting that PG or SF we really need because I'm not sure Bayless isn't our future PG. It is fun to talk about trades now but IMO it isn't going to happen this early in the season.
 
That is an interesting idea. Turk's smart play and shooting would really help the starting unit. We also get Reddick, who is still a project and 2 first round draft picks. Not bad.

What I don't like is giving up Bayless yet. I disagree with people who believe Rodriguez has won the PG spot on the starting unit. It's been, what, six games so far. Sure, as of now, Sergio will get the nod, but I need to see how he responds during this tough schedule first before I let go of Bayless. Turk is nice but he's in a contract year and is getting up there in age. Tough to predict what he gives the team after this season. Plus, those two draft picks would be in the 20s most likely.

Lastly, and most important for me, we'd be giving up Bayless and his rookie-scale 4-year contract in place of Sergio at the end of his rookie-scale contract. I'm not sure that's a good idea right now.
 
Uh, just off the top of my head...he still has a ton of value, but is currently slated (in the rotation) as sitting next to Ike Diogu and Raef LaFrentz on the bench for 45 minutes a game. A few months of that, and his value goes down ("He can't beat out Sergio Rodriguez or Steve Blake for minutes?"). (BTW....same argument for Travis)

Also, he's basically a SG trying hard to be a PG. If we keep him, maybe he comes around in a couple years to play PG. Or, he's a worse version of Jarrett Jack. Either way, he has no safety net--the two guys in front of him are Roy and Rudy. they aren't going anywhere.

Ergo, Bayless should go with Outlaw if we can get value for them. If not, send him to Idaho to learn how to play the point. Being our 11th/12th man doesn't help.
 
Who cares if he sits on the bench for part of the year? He's a rookie on a cheap contract. I have no doubt in my mind he will eventually AT LEAST beat out Sergio for the backup spot. Bayless will find time on the court, just give him some time to develop. He has that killer instinct when scoring that I actually think would go very well on our team.

Yes, but he's hardly reached his potential. Right now he's worth another team's young, yet unproven talent. Right? To get rid of him now for another unproven talent is risky and unnecessary. He'll have his time to develop, whether that's in the 2nd unit (due to an injury or by earning it) or in Boise. The skies the limit for this kid. I'd rather wait to see what he can become and then see if that work in our system or not. If he can great, if not, then at least we'll getting back a more sure thing in return for him.

Sending out Bayless and only getting back late first-rounders and Turk is like pissing away money.

If he can't beat out Steve Blake and Sergio Rodriguez, then that speaks more about them than Bayless. Bayless is, what, 19? Steve Blake is playing the best ball of his career. Sergio was just as much an exciting prospect as Bayless when he first arrived. Last year may prove to be his down year, and this season he blossoms into one of the better playmakers in the game. That's no knock on Bayless. Other GM's realize the situation Pritchard and McMillan are in.

And him being a scoring guard is just fine with this team. Bayless, IMO, could be excellent both the starting and 2nd unit since both Roy and Fernandez can be his facilitators. Don't forget that Bayless moves well off the ball. All we'd need him to do is play his game on O and play solid D.

Oh and there's no way Bayless ends up being Jack, let alone a worse version. No way. Bayless' all-around skill set puts him closer to Roy IMO.

Regardless, the primary goal to figure out the future of our PG position. Blake and Sergio have contract issues. The team must figure out in the next couple of months where they fit in with our future. Bayless is locked up. If it's determined that Sergio or Steve are one of the odd men out, it'll have been beneficial to play them and increase their league-wide value.
 
I am looking to make a move in my association
I found out that Bayless, Ike, 2 firsts for Granger and Jack works out..I am very tempted to pull the trigger, only thing stopping me is that Blake is very bad on thsi game and Sergio doesn't have the perimeter D Bayless has and I would have a log jam at SF. Maybe I can try it with Marty when he gets healthy in 4 weeks.
