6-year-old boy floats away in hot-air balloon

Yeah, not a lot of good can come from this one. Either the kid got out before it took off and is hiding somewhere, or...

Police are searching an area where a person reported seeing something falling out of the balloon while it was in flight.

Who's reporting that? CNN coverage hasn't said that, and it's terrible coverage. No one knows any thing, it's hilarious. "Hmm, let's interview 20 people that know NOTHING!" Captivating.

Keep watching, if the boy is safe, they will show a clip of the White House to imply Obama was responsible. :D

On a serious note, I don't care who is at fault or if someone was an idiot in this situatuion, I pray that the 6 year old boy isn't injuried or dead.

CNN has said it several times for the last hour. The balloon would have risen to like 50 feet within 30 seconds, so the boy is dead unless he fell out in the first half-minute. Or unless he was never in there and is hiding or something. So they should just search the neighborhood and save for later the search along the flight path.

So if it turns out that the kid released the balloon, and was hiding in his basement the whole time, what happens? Does the family get in trouble at all, or get a bill for the police/rescue effort? I'm not necessarily saying they should, am just curious how that works. If it's just chalked up as, boys will be boys, haha, or do they go after the parents in a situation like this?
Here's hoping the kid is alright.

The speed was an illusion, caused by the telephoto lens. It was doing maybe 20-25 MPH, IIRC.

The family was on Wife Swap some time ago.

I sure hope the kid's okay...

Where the fuck is Chuck Norris when you need him...

OMFG I spit all over my monitor laughing at this!!!! Wow. Nice joke hahahah omg

But on a side note, as I was reading this thread... each post, when they said there was no kid in the balloon, my heart sank.

I really hope that kid is alive and well.

I saw on Yahoo they were on Wife Swap TWICE...

Crazy locals...

Thank God. He was never in the balloon and was hiding because he thought he was in trouble.

As a parent, I'm so relieved.

I heard it on the radio here in Colorado. They're having a press conference now.

I can't even imagine what it was like for the parents.

I certainly hope this wasn't some sort of publicity stunt...

ha, I was about to suggest it was. The whole story just doesn't add up, plus they have already shown a desire to be in the limelight by appearing in a reality TV show twice.

This thread pretty much sums up the 24 news cycle.

Well, here is the kids' YouTube music video entitled "Not Pussified". I'm not joking.

Well at least now they don't have to search outside the family for a future beastie boys member.

I give it at least 3 weeks before it becomes a south park episode.

"Balloon Boy" Falcon Henne Admits: "We Did This For The Show"

Hours after he worried America sick into thinking he was on a runaway balloon flying over Colorado - while he was just hiding in the attic - 6-year-old Falcon Henne, aka "Balloon Boy", appears with his family on "Larry King Live."

In this scene, Falcon admits that he heard his parents calling him, but declined to come out of the garage.

At 0:40, he mutters, "We did this for the show."

This leads father Richard to try and explain what he just said. "Whenever we tell him things like, it's a bad thing t do, he does go and hide," he says.

I do actually think this was more of a publicity stunt. Apparently they contacted TLC (I think it was TLC) to get their own show and were turned down. This guy was on wife swap (more than once I think) and on Storm Chasers.

Of course the kid did say "We did it for a show" (as was stated in this thread already)...

But also...
During an ABC interview on Friday Falcon was asked why he said he was hiding "for a show," at which point he said: "Mom, I feel like I'm going to vomit." He then left the room with his mother and could be heard gagging.

During a live interview on NBC's "Today" that aired simultaneously, Falcon threw up into a container when his father was answering the same question.

While Slusser stops short of calling Thursday's balloon odyssey a hoax, she said she wouldn't rule it out.

"Basically, what I'm saying, knowing Richard, there's always a possibility that this was done for publicity," she said.

I don't really care. I'm just glad the boy is safe.
