60 Million Gone Next Season

That's right. If the Knicks stand pat, we will have about 60 million dollars coming off the salary cap. Here are the players coming off the books

Allan Houston - 21 million
Jalen Rose - 17 million
Mo' Taylor - 10 million
Shandon Anderson - 8.5 million
Jerome Williams - 6 million (has a team option next year, but we're not paying him)

All in all, we can make considerable strides if we just stand pat. But judging from our history, will we?

How far off from the salary cap limit will we be? Only two of those players are currently playing and can be used as trade bait (seems like a good thing, seeing as how Isiah loves trading away his expiring contracts). You never know; if Isiah gets the boot we could have a very productive offseason in 2007.

I believe Jerome Williams was waived with Amnesty rule, his team option shouldn't count.

Is Dolan going to allow Isiah to shop these contracts this season?

We better have to let those contract expire,cause we don't need another trade we already have enough players that can play and are custom to play over 20 minutes every night.And last we sign Jared Jeffries with he's 6'11"
height can play any position and we still have Q Richardson that can give us minutes off the bench.In fact we can just let Both Mo taylor and Jalen Rose in the inactive list the entire season and we still won't be short on position this year. So NO MORE TRADES!!!!!!
60 Million off the book is a good start for a fresh new offseason if Isiah is Fire for the 2007-2008 season.

you can let those contracts expire, shed salaries off the cap and reduce luxury tax, but it won't leave u under the cap and you won't have nothing to show for those players...even if that player is allan houston, that's about $17mil to net on a good player.

Tough decision for the Knicks.

This thread title can be interpreted in 2 different ways and both would be correct.

1. The way you were intending it to be interpreted which is that we'll finally have some cap space after next year.

2. 60 mill of cap Gone during this season...meaning we're paying 60 million dollars to these players and not one of them is a vital part of the team and is really important to the team's core. -pretty upseting but true.

If the Knicks are truly dedicated to rebuilding then they'll let the contracts expire without trading them away or bringing in bigger ones. I say they have to be dedicated, because the next season they'll be even worse for it and I don't know how they'd be able to sell that team to their fanbase. Of course, I'm assuming that Isiah won't be around to make this decision.

Current salary cap is 53 mils, current Knicks salary is 140 mils, and next year's salary will be about 92 mils (assuming that Marbury will exercise his option). So, even if Knicks shed 60 mils, there won't be any capspace. Also, if Knicks are serious about creating a caproom, I don't think they would signed Jeffery to begin with. Since, it would be Thomas' last chance, Thomas will most likely use everything, including massive expiring contracts, to make Knicks PO team this season...
