(The photo has nothing to do with the story--it's from an HBO show I never saw. There's something just so right about that picture, the slogan, and the date.)

A big thank you to all the troops who have made sacrifices to keep us safe.

Well, it's somewhat debatable that we're much safer because we invaded Iraq.

But I've got no qualms at all about giving a big thank you to our troops for sacrificing so much in service of our country. Whether the policies are right or wrong, these people go out and do their best to enforce the will of our democratic republic. We'd be completely fucked with out them, and I hope we do a better job of both using their service and rewarding their service in the future.

It's tough to prove a negative. Who knows what would have happened if we didn't overthrow Saddam, focusing much of Al Qaeda's and Iran's efforts in Iraq?

It's impossible to prove, really, either way. That's why I said your point was debatable that they've "kept us safe" by being there.

But it's not debatable (at least in my mind) that our country owes these soldiers a lot.

Less Americans would have died, most likely.

So, it's your contention that there would not have been another attack on US soil or attacks on Americans in other parts of the world? Let us not forget that Iraq was a magnet for extremists with a beef against the US. Furthermore, Iraq has served to keep Iran preoccupied with its western border.
