7.1 million

Population of the United States 313.9 million.

So, roughly 2.2% of the population has health insurance now? And that's assuming they were people who didn't have insurance before. How much did Obamacare cost?

Some of the 313.9 million are children or spouses covered under one policy. Some are elderly who already have Medicare. One step at a time.

If he were a dictator, The republican party members would be in jail or exiled to Mexico and my point is, in our country, we've impeached presidents and risen to the cause during times like the dust bowl era.

first, as you well know, it takes the Senate to impeach the President..not gonna happen. Second, almost all of the powers that be who can control that process, are bought off.

Think about how many times the right has been attacked, how many talk show hosts have been accused of hate speech by the ruling left..give it a few more years and you very well may see some of the very things you mock..

LOL

It takes the house to impeach the President.

It takes the senate to put on the trial, convict, and ultimately remove him.

There's a huge difference. Doctors take an oath to heal the sick.

I demand you come mow my lawn for $15. I demand it. Now you have to do it and the government should make you do it.

What an idiotic line of thinking.
Next you'll be saying they can choose to deny their services because of their political affilliations or race..

No, next you'll be building a strawman. Oh wait, you already did.

Granted it's expensive to go to medical school. The cost of higher education is another topic for discussion.

Fair enough. Cost of schooling is irrelevant to this. Other than the fact that if you want the brightest to make that commitment, you can't think you're going to have the government own them.

The Nazis could refuse to provide medical services to the Jews or Gypsies for example. That's not democracy, that's facism.

HAHA! There's the Nazi reference we've all been waiting for. A clear sign that you've lost all logical thought.

If we want our country to be a shining example of democracy, we need to address our public health system. It's not perfect but it's an effort to start changing things. Obama care has flaws. Not quite as many as Congress, but it has flaws. If you are a doctor, you can choose to only care for the wealthy or become a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. Then you just won't have to deal with the disadvantaged or homeless. Many do.

And they have every right to do so. You're the one bringing up the Nazi's as fascism, yet that's exactly what you're asking to do here.

Sorry Denny, we are a democracy and the president is not a dictator. I have several dictionaries as well. I understand you dislike Obamacare but this is beyond a stretch. One might suppose insurance agencies and their lobbies in the capital are involved in politics. If a president takes on Wall Street for insider trading, it's a good thing, not a dictatorship. If he takes on the banking system when it's causing chaos in the housing industry, it's not a dictatorship and all of those are independant companies. If a president goes after tax shelters in the Caymans or Swiss banks, that's not a dictatorship. It's a president trying to do his job. I commend the man. I'm proud of our democracy.

If you want to have a little bit of respect for your opinions, at least know that we don't have a democracy.

Whoa bb...I don't have a license to mow lawns and you know what you can do with your greenbacks..demand some of that

No license required. The government should be able to require you to take my money to mow my lawn. Don't be so fascist.

be nice, you know what I meant, hahahaha cant impeach with out the support of the Senate

Technically, you can, but it really has no impact unless the Senate votes for removal. I knew what you meant; Denny is just being anal in his details.

It's worth getting the details right.

"Impeach" is analogous to "indict." Bring charges.

I was just as hard on riverman.

I can agree with that position, too. The Mainstream Media certainly isn't going to teach people these things. There are dummies on the right who think that the House should impeach Obama. What a horrible and fatal decision that would be, politically, because the media and the Senate will just laugh at it, which they should. I don't even know what he could be impeached for at this point, so it's moot. He's made terrible decisions, and is pushing the EO to its legal limit (and likely beyond), but other than some lies he's told, the Dems have inoculated Obama from anything considered impeachable. I think they either send him golfing during the day when he's not campaigning, and in big meetings, he watches SportsCenter with Reggie Love and is briefed if it won't implicate him.

If the house has a compelling case, it is their duty to impeach. They'd get nationally televised and heavily watched unfiltered airtime to make their case. If it's compelling, the senate would be pressured to remove.

But I don't see a compelling case. Elections have consequences, and we are stuck until his term is up.

FWIW-Spoke to tax guy last night, Obamacare has definitely increased my taxes by at least a couple thousand . . . and that wasn't even the worst news.

Painful tax year for T0B

Gotta pay for spendy government somehow.

You must have made too much money.

That's the killer. Made no more than the year before . . . but taxes way up (relative to other increases I have seen in my tax statements throughout the years).

Oh well: First I didn't vote for Obama so can't blame myself (like I have any impact on an election anyways) and second is I could be a hell of lot worse off than I am and I really do have the country to thank for my very modest fortune. But it does mean less discretionary income for me this year. Looks like I'm doing cheap vacations, and less dining out and Blazer games this coming up year.

I've always asked the question are you better off this year than last. Maybe it the lack of raise but for the first time in a long time I can say I was better off last year than this year.

I should say it is not drastically different and if it is for the better of the country it will be worth it . . . but is Obamacare better for the country as a whole? Personally I'm in a wait mode before I come to my conclusion.

You must be one of those making over $250K then. Cause, I'm pretty sure the Prez said nobody else's taxes would go up by one dime.

Go Blazers

In a related story, I caught an article on pbs, that the state of oregon had approved a 30 percent rate hike on long term care policies. The insurance companies had requested a 45% hike and stated that profits had suffered due to higher health care costs, and unusually low interest rates

Second story touched on the fact that when insurance companies had set the rates on current health care policies, they had used a model that projected obamacare in a favorable light, and that there were several indicators pointing towards rate hikes for next year.
