Question: With three competent small forwards on the roster (Travis Outlaw, Nicolas Batum, Martell Webster), which one is the odd man out?

Answer: My guess is that.......................

The odd man out

Webster needs to find some excuse to sit out the season. Another year on the sideline, and people will be declaring him an all-star. :biglaugh:

I hope we find an upgrade for Outlaw, but he is at least useful some of the time. If anybody "must" go, then Webster needs to pack.

has anyone heard word on websters foot? im curious to see how hes doing now....

Saying we might trade Rudy... BOOOOO HISSS HISS!!!

Websters a more consistent defender and three point shooter. Sure he's not as good at creating his own shot but he doesn't force it up when he has nothing. Plus he had an excuse for sitting out the playoffs.

You do know about the edit button right?

Really? How many votes from NBA coaches has Webster received for the All-Defensive team in his career? I know Outlaw received one vote this year while playing for a 54 win team.

lol repped. I forgot about that. :drumroll:

I had a burning question one time, but that was years ago, and a simple shot took care of it.

And PapaG, please remember that the great Andrea Bargnani recieved a rookie of the year vote also. It doesn't mean he deserved it. Travis is a below average defender who males up for blown coverage with his athlticism. He blocks some shots from behind and some coah back east remembered a key one in some game.

I think this hinges on how Webster recovers from the permanent screws in his foot. I have my doubts. If we trade Travis and Webster ends up with a more or less career ending injury, Batum is 2-3 years away from playing major productive minutes and we'd be in the lerch. I'm wondering if KP will hold off making any SF trades until mid season and we can see how Webster does.

I guess no one seems to remember that Webster's career best PER is 11.97, compared to Outlaw's career best PER of 16.48. Outlaw had a PER last year of 15.15. Keep in mind that the league average is 15.00. In fact Outlaw's worst PER season is higher than Webster's best PER season.

Batum, by the way had a PER last year of 12.92. Again, higher than any year of Webster's.

Those three are all good players to use in a comparison because they all play consistant minutes.

Everyone also talks about Webster being this great shooter, but Webster's best 3pt % is .388. Outlaw by comparison went .396 two years ago, and .377 last year. Batum was .369.

Some people, including myself, want to get rid of Travis because frankly he isn't that good, but his PER rating is a lot higher than the guy some of you think is the missing piece?

Why is Webster this great player that is going to put up over the top again?

Also remember that the Bargnani vote came from the media. The All-Defensive vote came from a head coach in the NBA. :devilwink:

Webster is just now being allowed to walk and shoot. That is a really, really bad sign.

Unfortunately, it makes him impossible to trade. Outlaw will most likely return for another year of futility as a 3/4 tweener.

I don't think the "trout must go" crew thinks webster is the guy. we think he is the guy to be batum's backup! :ghoti:

Please don't rewrite history. Outlaw was inconsistent but to say his entire year was "futile" is just bs.

IF TO is kept and nothing else happens roster wise, which I doubt..

Put TO as backup to LMA and leave Webster/Batum at the 3

Travis creates more mismatches at the 4 than at the 3

I pretty much dismiss the opinions of those who seem to think losing Travis would be an addition by subtraction situation. I'd guess a deal with Travis would fetch a player of value because dude is a pretty decent NBA player. Portraying him as some sort of team pariah is just silly. He's not the greatest talent in the league but he is a healthy productive cheap reserve and their best option backing up both forward spots. He just seems to be the latest target of some who like to bitch.

If no trades involving forwards are made, I'll stick with my guess that Martell will end up the odd man out. His health may or may not be a concern, but his performances have been largely disappointing. Then again, maybe this will be his breakout year :koolaid:

Do you honestly believe that Outlaw as a 3/4 tweener is a better option then having players who can actually play those positions? If so, then his season wasn't futile at all. For me, I would rather have an actual 3 AND an actual 4 then the Outlaw hodge-podge of skills. I believe having Outlaw play a lot of minutes at 4 was futile, since he can't actually guard 4's and doesn't consistently rebound.

Between that and his complete inability to be a starter, his need to jack up crap to be effective and his disappearing act in the playoffs lead me to believe that another year with him is an exercise in futility.

I would also appreciate it if you did not put words in my mouth.

I did not say Outlaw is a better option than having "a player who can actually play these positions". You said bringing back Outlaw is another year of futility. I said he is inconsistent but if he had some good/very good games, and he did, than "futile" is not an accurate word.

Is it possible, just possible, to have a discussion without attacks? This is not the stupid so called debates on TV where two people scream talking points at one anothere. I personally think KP will move Travis if he gets a good offer. He won't move him for the sake of moving him, as he did with Zach Randolph. I don't think Travis fits what the Blazers need. I also don't think his entire year was futile. It is not necessary to hate someone to realize he's not the best fit. If Travis goes, I wish him well (except when he plays Portland) and hope he clotheslines Kobe Bryant.
