I caught Canzanos show, and was somewhat bothered by his rant about the OSU students painting themselves in black paint, and how last year (I guess) some fans wore afro style wigs, and acted like idiots.

He acted like painting oneself in black makeup/paint is the same as "black face" (which I'm sure most of you know what that is).

Black face is done to emphasize certain stereotypical characteristics (the lips, the eyes, hands, etc) whereas wearing black paint over your face isn't the same.

I was bothered by how he kept making the point that it's the same, and that anyone who called in and disagreed or didn't think it was as bad as he did, got the "deliverance" music treatment. That seemed to be an obvious attempt to just anger fans and get attention.

The funny thing is I think fans painting themselves up in school colors is dumb. But not because of the reasons he ranted on.

As for the morning guys, Chad is the worse of the two. Gavin when he's not trying to make a "la familia" type point, is worth listening to. The only time Chad is worth listening to is when they've muted him.

There's a difference between interesting and offensive, or just plain stupid. I haven't read Canzano's column in years. I used to be an Oregonian subscriber, and now pick-up a copy of the paper about once a month to read the movie reviews in the A&E section. If their childish shtick and rude behavior continues to drive away their core listeners, Gavin and Chad will soon go the way of their predecessors on the MSP - and deservedly so.

Excuse me? Gavin and Chad were the ones who jumped off the Oden Bandwagon so fast it made my head spin. My opinion of Greg Oden hasn't changed one bit since before we drafted him. I've been consistent since day one. How does that make me a bandwagon fan? Sticking with a player and/or team through thick and thin seems the polar opposite of being a bandwagon jumper.

Did you actually listen to the podcast of yesterday's MSP show? He didn't just put down Oden (wrongly, inaccurately and unfairly), he made stupid comments about the Blazers (who were tied for 4th in the West at the time in spite of a ridiculously tough schedule) not looking like a play-off team, and being a huge disappointment, etc. Then he was rude to Brian Wheeler, who he invited on his show, and hung up on him. Like he does any caller who disagrees with his stupid, transparent rants. At least he didn't call Wheelz an idiot when he hung up on him - like he often does callers who disagree with him.

It's funny, but if you actually listen to the podcast, it was the fans, and Brian Wheeler, that were urging people to be patient and give Oden a chance to develop before rushing to judgment. It was Dawson who took the extreme position based on unrealistic expectations - not the other way around.

Again, that's the exact opposite of what happened in this situation. Dawson ripped into Oden, and to a lesser extent the entire team, for failing to live up to unrealistic expectations. It was the fans, and Wheelz, who were the voice of moderation. Most fans are smart enough to realize that when a player has played about a week of competitive ball in the last 19 months that they're going to be a bit rusty. And, even under the best of situations, it takes a young rookie time to adjust to the NBA game. Dawson was calling Oden a huge disappointment after 29 minutes of NBA play and the entire season a waste after 8 games. Tell me again who has the unrealistic expectations?

That stupidity, combined with his rudeness, is why I'm upset and will no longer be listening to The Game, during my morning commute. Not because I have unrealistic expectations for the big guy and this team. My expectations may be unrealistic, I don't think so, but even if they are, that's not why I'm upset. I'm perfectly happy, ecstatic in fact, over Oden's progress and the way the team has been playing.

Still, I've never enjoyed their show, their lack of knowledge, and junior high school humor, but this new tactic of overstating extreme opinions to generate calls, and then calling those who disagree with them idiots and hanging up on them, has driven me over the edge. I don't find it the least bit enjoyable or entertaining. I'd prefer a little intelligent discussion over this "agree with me or you suck" approach.

No offense, but they don't care about your 10 minute commute. It's people like me in their cars all day that they care about, and 'controversial' comments keep people listening. As for the rest of your post, I was commenting on the unrealistic expecations of posters here, not "Wheelz", although the rest of the organization has hyped Oden too much IMO.

The local guys like Canzano and Gavin Dawson are amateurs. There's a big difference between them and the national hosts like Rome or JT the Brick. Rome is obnoxious, but it comes off as charming and funny. When the local guys try to be controversial it just sounds stupid.

My main thing with them isnt really how they criticize Oden.. as stupid as I may find it, or as stupid as anyone thinks the opinion is.. they still have the right to have that opinion. My main problem with them is their attitude towards anyone's opinion that differs than them they treat them like crap and in an inferior manner. They act like they are God's gift to radio shows, yet without the great fans of the Blazers, Ducks, and Beavers... they wouldnt even have a show to bitch and moan on. Yet they alienate and put down those very fans who give them a show. Canzano on the other hand.. I may not agree with him all the time, but he is respectful of his listeners and his guests and when a caller disagrees with Canzano he will hear them out and discuss that thought, not just call them a douche and hang up and talk about how much of a Homer one is. I for one actually enjoy Canzano's show, much more than his columns as well.

I will echo this. I am going to listen on Monday and may even call in to give them my 2 cents. I was planning on sending an email to jake derby. I mean it's understandable that it's good radio to have disagreements and makes people call in, thats what Canzano's show is all about. I expect that from him! I don't speak for all of us, but I'm pretty sure most of us arent the biggest Canzano fans. Gavin was different in the morning, I mean just talking blazer talk and it was good. Now the Blazers arent going to make the playoffs and I have never listened to Colin in the morning so maybe I will make that switch. But here's to hoping something changed.
