I've lived in a few apartment complexes, some very large and some small and I've never seen one in Portland, Corvallis, St. Louis or Seattle that required an apt. complex permit. I'm sure there are places that require them based on your testimony but they can't be common.

It's actually pretty common lanny as unauthorized people try and park in the complex in spots that are assigned and don;t have a permit. Many businesses also have similar parking permit for employees as well. My wife worked in NW Portland across from Good Samaritan for a doctor and they had an employee parking lot that required a tag to [ark there till 6pm. After that people were allowed to park in the lot without a tag till 7am the next day. They will contract with a tow company to monitor the proper usage. These tow companies can be sharks and pounce on a car almost as quickly as someone exiting the car.

And unfortunately there are terrible people who don't mind their own damned business and call the tow company on cars that don't have stickers or are parked wrong.

Several guests (not from my unit but others) cars have been towed while they were visiting the complex. The lot is for tenants only. I tell my visitors to park on the street.

They are quite common over the past 15 years, buddy.

My apartments do. They require a sticker that proves you are a resident of the complex. The sticker is not free
I've never heard of that until now.
Most places just take down your license plate number and check that record against any parked cars.
Must be something new. Haven't lived in an apartment in 30 years.

The pandemic set things back. I got an email saying the decision on my case is being finalized. I will find out what that decision is in 2 days.

I am in a very confusing and frustrating situation.

So here it goes...on Friday my wife picked me up from work. We were headed to get a car part and bring the car to the shop. Our car died as we pulled out onto the road. We thought we were just out of gas. We pushed the car to the side of the road. We went and got gas and filled the tank. The car wouldn't start. I paid to get it towed to the shop where we were going anyway.

By the time it got there, the place was closed. It sat overnight. They looked at it in the morning on Saturday. After an hour and 45 mins of looking they discovered the timing belt had went out causing a valve to bend in the engine. The car was dead.

I paid them for the diagnostic. I paid for it to get towed to my apartment. We were going to sell it as is and use some savings to put money down on a new car.

We got a buyer. I went down this afternoon to clean the car/get our things out. He was supposed to come tomorrow morning to buy it.

When I went out to the parking lot the car was gone. My wife found out it was towed...because the tow truck that brought it to my apartments parked it backwards, something against the rules of the parking lot, because the shark mother fucker tow truck that works with the aparments can't see the sticker showing it belongs there if it's backed in, and the tow drivers are lazy assholes.

Anyway the car is in an impound lot. It's dead. I don't want to pay to get it out. It is worth little more than what it would cost to get out.

But, my wife's name is on the tags. If she abandons it she could lose her licence. The tow company won't listen. They don't care. I get it. They won't allow us to get the plates so we can return them to the DMV.

So I guess I am fucked. I will pay to get it out. Pay to get it towed back here, parked the correct way, and then sell it for what I can and take the loss.

Fuck me
For a scant $50 each Sly and I will move the tow truck to a fire hydrant and then puncture all four tires. You can watch from across the street and laugh your ass off.

Let's see what the decision is first.

THIS!!

@Chris Craig that shop lied to you! Either that or they are terrible mechanics. A ‘92 Corolla is a non-interference motor like Doug said. This means if the timing belt breaks the pistons will NOT slam into the valves and fuck your motor. It’s made to be replaceable.

If your timing belt is indeed broken, your car is NOT dead! It just needs a new timing belt and to be re-timed. Do not sell a Corolla with only 159k on it. My moms 93 (exact same car) had 315k on it when she wrecked it, who knows how much longer it would’ve lasted.

Get your car out and park it at home. Call that mechanic and bitch them out. I would DEMAND my money back! That is such an unacceptable mistake for any licensed mechanic to make dude!

The wrecking yard is a different issue. Nothing you can do but pay to get your car out. They are predators with the law on their side, unfortunately.

Buy a timing belt and try to find a decent mechanic to install it when you get the cash. It’s good to replace the water pump at the same time if you’ve got the extra $. And don’t forget to bitch out that shitty mechanic and get your money back!
I just looked it up to make sure and you are 100% correct.
However, I'm thinking you may have gotten a dunder head at the repair shop rather than an unscrupulous shit head. Either way, I'd take it somewhere else. My wife had a 2005 Camry from Beaverton Toyota on Murray Blvd. just off Canyon for the last 15 years and she got excellent service for every one of those 15 years. Honestly, I don't see who a repair facility could do better with a Toyota. They bent over backwards to be helpful. They give you a free car wash every time you have something done there. One time they replaced the disc brake pads and resurfaced the rotors which I thought was unnecessary. The service manager and the mechanic both stopped by to talk to us and explain that it was a precaution that they always did when replacing pads. I noticed that the cost wasn't much and the explanation sounded good so we went with it. We got three free car wash coupons that day. They use the same flat rate charging that most garages use these days and there service is guaranteed to be the same or probably better.

Girlfriend let my truck overheat yesterday and there is definitely something fucked with the engine now. Decided to apply for an auto loan but found out there is a freeze on my Experian account. After several phone calls and being on hold for over 2 hours, it has been removed. Called my bank back about continuing the auto loan process and they have a hold time of approximately one and a half hours. I'll call them back. For now, time to Uber to Enterprise to pick up a rental. What a clusterfuck of a monday morning it has been.

Sorry man. I know how that feels

Nah. Appeal is in middle of August. No biggie. Expected it. I still think it will be in mine and my wife's favor.

good luck. See about trying to get additional money for the interest you would be loosing if thew money was in your hands the whole time.

These sort of asinine appeals are considered automatic, a sort of desperate attempt to pull out a miracle for them like hoping they'll scare you off.
