A full rebuild is needed

Drury is light years better at drafting than that halfwit Gorton, 4 #1 misses, Chytil showed promise but was not a #1 and Laf is a bust. 6 #1s squandered and that's Drury's fault? Chuck's going to need 2 arm slings from the season long self back patting "predicting" the Rangers demise. To Al's point the Rangers went to the ECF twice in the last 3 years because of the moves Drury made. Resigning Mika was a tough choice but there were few FAs to choose from. I didn't want Mika back after he did nothing while Panarin got pummeled by Wilson but until this year he's produced and he's stayed healthy (316 games 109G/184A) but he and the rest of the NTC crowd are all having down years,. Trocheck was a great signing and I think Drury stole JT. Drury's biggest shortcoming is player relations, he's awful at it and made moves that hurt team chemistry but professionals should be able to overcome this. Hit that Drury pinata all you want but Gorton was the worst thing to happen to this franchise, Glen Sather ran circles around Gorton half interested from his fishing boat.

I've actually been pretty spot on about the Rangers for a long time. Unlike most I am objective, I understand that being a fan doesn't mean I always say my team is the best and will win every game/series. I am real and call it like I see it.

Last season I said the Rangers were a good team and would beat the Caps, Canes, and Panthers (which I was wrong about). So, if you are trying to insinuate, I am negative and always pick against the Rangers, you have the wrong guy. When I think the Rangers are good, I say it and offer my thoughts accordingly. When I think the Rangers will struggle, I am not afraid to state it. I am also not afraid to make predictions and offer my thoughts, I put myself out there, which is why I get knocked in here as much as I do, which I am perfectly fine with. This was never going to be a good season; that's just the way it is/was. But I am also confident about next season, with the right bold core changing moves made this summer.

People can disagree on the job Drury has done, that's okay. I have never said every move he's made has been bad. I agree, the Trocheck signing was very good, there is/was no bigger fan of the Miller trade than me. Again, I am objective, unlike most, and can say yes Drury has made some good moves. But he has made many more down moves than good moves IMO, and most importantly it's what he didn't do that crushed the team in the playoffs last season, and this season. His lack of a big move at the trade DL last season, was a disgrace. Keeping the old stale core together last summer, was even a bigger disgrace. That's just the way I see it. You think he's been a good Pres/GM, I don't, we can disagree on that, all good.

What I think we can agree on is if he's still running the show, and I expect he will be, we are rooting hard for him to do some great work this summer, we are aligned on that I believe. I also think we may be aligned on the thought there must be some core changing moves made this summer. I wish and root for great success for Drury going forward. From there we'll see how it goes.

What's funny is, no team wants the last playoff spot. Montreal has lost 4 straight, the Isles have lost 3 straight, and taking a look at each of their next few games, they might continue to lose. Playing the Ducks and Sharks the next two games, the Rangers could actually find themselves back in playoff position if they get 4 points.

Watch CBJ sitting there quietly, they may be the team that ends up with the 8th spot when the dust settles.

The teams needs a revamp. I love Kreider but he went from a tough, hard nosed, hard hitting, goal scoring forward, to a guy that just camps out in front of the net and is one dimensional. Z is soft. Panarin is very soft. The defense does not have a big shot physical defenseman. The role players suck. The stars suck. Their window has closed. There’s no leader. Trouba was at least a voice that could back up his play although he was declining too. You look at free agents like Guentzel on pace for 40 goals, it’s too bad Drury fucked shit up during the summer. Look at TB. Looks at the players they’ve acquired. Now they’re back on top. lol even McDonaugh went back there and is having a really good season. Only this team vets come here and pack it in

Agree Strud. Thus, why I want Torts back. I know he is not great coaching offense. That being said, you have the best goalie in the world that leads the league facing high danger chances. Fucking disgrace. These vets are pussies. Some are lazy. Some come in out of shape. They think they are entitled to PP time. The team is defensively retarded. Morons like Miller fuck up time after time and are never held accountable. Young players never get first PP time and their development blows. Torts has his faults but he is what this team needs. If you hire him, I would bring back Lindgren. Trade Miller who is a dipshit. Notice, Lindgren is playing great hockey now and Colorado has become better defensively.

For the love of all that’s holy, being Brady Tkachuk here.

I love this bring Brady to the Rangers.... WHY WOULD THE SENS TRADE HIM TO US... for WHAT? Ill trade Lafy and Fucking FOX... what is everyone else willing to realistically GIVE UP to get him?

Yup, the Rangers have nobody they’re trading him for. They’re not taking bloated veteran salaries for him. They’re not taking lesser younger players for him just because you clump a few of them together.

Would you do a Laffy and Fox for him? or Laffy and K Miller and a pick for him?

It would take Perreault, Lafreniere and a 1st at least, plus probably something else like Garand. Pass.

The time to get him was last off season. That ship has sailed. Unfortunately we need a top GM to rebuild this. Drury probably isn’t it.

Short of getting Brady T, which I doubt can happen, here is what I would do:

Trade Kreider and K. Miller
Move Schneider to LD on the 2nd pair
Add a legit top-level LD to pair with Fox on the 1st pair
Add a very good top 6 wing
In the Kreider/K. Miller deal get back a legit tough to play against gritty 3rd line player

You do that, along with giving Othmann and maybe Perreault chances next season, and you have a very good team.

Let's be clear, everything/everyone is on the table, I am just putting out there what seems reasonable right now. If you have to deal Lafreniere/Panarin/Othmann/whomever you do it of course.

I am also a big believer that one of K. Miller or Schneider should go. It does not make good sense to have Schneider on the 3rd pair going forward, he deserves a top 4 shot.

Trocheck should be a third line center. He also shouldn’t be on the PP1 unit. He gets too much icetime for what he is. They need to get at least a legit second line center. Let Miller center the first line. You have to move Zibanadouche out here. I think that’s the key.

I think Zibanejad is maybe the toughest to move when you combine his full NMC, an $8.5M cap hit, and 5 long years remaining on his deal after this season. I would love to move him, but I am trying to stay grounded on what is really possible, and Zibanejad may be the one player on the team that is almost untradeable. Best bet with him may be to hope he rededicates himself this summer and comes back in great shape ready to go next season. I also think him and Fox have the same disease and it majorly hurts their games, they both refuse to shoot, and it makes them much easier to defend, no shot threat at all. It must change for both of them, and it's on the coach to pound it into their heads.

That's why I mention Kreider and K. Miller (or Schneider if you cannot trade Miller/Schneider's trade value is much higher). I feel very strongly one of Schneider or K. Miller must go (assuming no shot they trade Fox).

I'll also tell you this, if the Rangers keep their 1st round pick this season, and it's in the 11-13 range, I trade it before the draft to ensure you have a big-time team next season. The absolute worst thing that can happen is they keep their 1st rounder this season, say # 12 for arguments sake, and then Drury half ass*s it and we suck next season and end up with a top 5-7 pick let's say, then the Pens get our 1st rounder next season. That would be a disaster. It's why I also feel very strongly, if we keep our 1st this season Drury has to be even more aggressive this summer to build a winner for next season.

Once again, it is ALL on Drury to be bold, aggressive, and take some smart risks to make impactful moves. Is he up to the task...we'll see.

It would be great to have Trocheck as your third line center, but getting a second line center will not be easy.

In theory, Trocheck should be your # 3 C, Miller and Zibanejad should be the top two C's. If you add a proven top 6 wing this summer, you can have a 3rd line anchored by Trocheck and Cuylle.

Panarin, Zibanejad, Miller, Lafreniere, Othmann, top 6 wing added could be your top two lines. Trocheck, Cuylle, guy added in trade for Kreider and K. Miller or Schneider could be your 3rd line. Rempe, Edstrom, Berard, Carrick, Brod could be your 4th line mix. That is a nice set of lines.

On D you add a top LD to pair with Fox. Schneider or Miller with Borgen is your 2nd pair. Vaak/Soucy is your 3rd pair. Solid D pairs.

With the right moves this summer, the Rangers can be very good again next season I believe.

I agree with Dump about bringing in a whip cracker or at least a defensive minded coach. For all the Drury hate Chris does seem to know what he's doing when it comes to drafting and he's brought the Rangers into the 21st century by drafting guys with size.

Bringing in a tough defensive minded coach, who holds players accountable is the right move, I agree. I doubt it will be Torts, but someone like him who is maybe a little less abrasive would be a good hire.

The top lines drop in scoring from the President's Cup to this year is beyond disconcerting - CK (-51), Panarin (-41), Trocheck (-26), Mika (-21), Fox (-17), Laf (-14).

That Denver team is very well coached. However, he's coaching kids. Big difference coaching men. Usually, I would like to see a college guy in the AHL first.
