A good read on Republicans

There's a reason why I'm not a Republican. Thirty years ago I would have definitely been a member of the GOP, but I don't agree with the religious bullshit taking such a strong hold on the party and I think the GOP has lost a lot of its original platform.

I can't recall a time in the last 30years when "religious groups" had less authority in the GOP. Also, what was the GOP "original platform"?

Libertarianism, Anti-Communism, and Traditional Values. That describes Conservatism.

Republicans' original values were civil rights. Freedom for the black slaves.

No it isn't.

Yes it is, considering it was all tongue-in-cheek. Poor grammar, or not. That's why it was italicized. Wise guy. ;)

What are you talking about? You think religion is MORE of an influence in this country or on either party compared to 30 years ago? Try again.

I think Natebishop3 is correct in that, 30 (more like 50) years ago, religion (and "morality" as a whole) was more part of our overall culture, as opposed to being tied to either political party.

Correct. The only reason the right looks like it does now is that they've held on to more of that compared to the left. It isn't as if the right as become much more religious. It is just that the left has become less.

Amen, brother.

Very true. Progressive liberalism supports legalization of drugs, prostitution, child porn is freedom of speech, denial of constitutional rights to Christians, abortion, assisted suicide, same sex marriage... That said, the contemporary church in North America has also declined in morality during the same time frame, but in proportion to the general slide in morality overall.

Not true about legalization of drugs, child pornography, prostitution.

Very true. Progressive liberalism supports legalization of drugs, mandatory prostitution for 12 year-olds, child porn is freedom of speech, denial of constitutional rights to Christians, abortion by sledgehammer, hobo-assisted suicide, inter-species marriage, Satanism, eating live babies, random executions, replacing the food supply with Soylent Green, a one-world government run by the Germans, castration of the poor, ...

FTFY.

Zowie, that was some barfoism.

Oh, I thought you and I were having a 'who can write the most ridiculous assertion' contest.

No, BP, liberals are not in favor of child porn. Your little friends are wrong about that.

Well, you are right and I am wrong. What I wanted to get across is that it is a fact that some liberal view points are that freedom of speech can extend to some issues of child porn. Left wing groups like Free Speech Coalition (and others) lobby government and bring lawsuits to protect some areas of porn as freedom of speech. I did not mean to say that child porn in & of itself was supported by democrats in general. So if I came across that way, it was not what I meant.

I googled the Free Speech Coalition. By their own statement, "The Free Speech Coalition is the trade association for the adult entertainment industry. Our members consist of a broad range of adult businesses from producers and webmasters to manufacturers, retailers and many, many more."

That doesn't strike me as any more left-wing than any other business lobbying group.

And the Christian Coalition isn't a group that supports the right, either.

Hmm. Interesting analogy, but you haven't explained why you think the porn industry leans left-wing. If anything it seems to me they'd favor libertarians. Ron Paul would totally be on their side.

I wonder how the Christian Coalition feels about being compared to a porn-industry lobbying group. :)

This response reminds me of one of my favorite responses i heard my dads cousin say during one of our family reunions.

my sister, who is quite a blowhard, was talking about something she knew nothing about. So he goes "so, whats your opinion on the trade tariffs and their impact on the overall Keynesian economic tax system?"

After my sister gave a blank stare, he responded with "ooh, sorry. I thought you wanted to talk about shit you know nothing about".

The democrats used to be the party of religious rights.

At least in the south.

wasn't that around the time the South, in a sense, switched to Republican dominated from Democrat dominated?

or am I remembering Blue Harvest wrong?

You are completely remembering Blue Harvest wrong!

No, the South switched from Democrat to Republican in the 50s and especially in the 60s, when the civil rights act was passed.

That's right.

Well it was a reference from a long time ago from a galaxy far far away.

I sure didn't get it. Now that I've done a bit of googling, I get it. And my life is much the richer for it, I assure you.
