A thread to piss off the homers

For me it has nothing to do with age. All that matters is whether Aldridge will re-sign here. If they can get him to sign an extension, problem solved. If the team is doing horribly, and he wants out, hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later. I think it will be more difficult to do a decent trade next season.

You know if you want a good PF back in return another team you might be able to look at is the Clippers?

I just really don't see them trading Griffin, and if they did, I don't think he'd be happy here. I could be wrong. He went to Oklahoma, right? Not exactly a big city college.

I would love to see Griffin here ONLY because I'd love to see if the media follow him or if they are just brainwashing certain cities. My guess is the city for which Griffin plays in makes him popular, and not Griffin himself. Stupid media.

He was pretty popular before he went to LA... but the question is, would the refs still coddle him if he was a Portland Trail Blazer? I'm not so sure...

I think for an already established star like Griffin he would get the coverage but for guys like Lillard or McCollum it is much harder to break out. If Lillard was in NY the coverage would've been insane last year.

I dont think theres anyway he ends up in chicago unless we take back a bad contract. They're cheap, they couldnt even keep nate.

Look at the difference between Lin in NY and Lin in Houston.

Lin's playing very well so far this season. About the same level as his year as a NYK.

EDIT - Oh, I get what you're saying in terms of press coverage. My bad.

He was hugely popular during that breakout season. I actually saw a lot of Asians walking around with Lin jerseys on. Now he's..... just another dude.

Blech.... that trade would have been interesting before the draft, if we could have taken Oladipo, but not now. Bennett screams bust.

Well thats the point, buy Low...theres no way they do that before the draft

I don't think anyone is going to be a fan of this maybe a few but if you want a good PF in return you might be able to look at Minnesota. Then again who wants to go to Minnesota.

Yeah... Lillardsanity would have trumped all of what Lin did. Lillard is actually decent, where as it was painfully obvious how poor Lin was going to be.

There are a few issues at play (already hashed out a ton, but what's a message board for?) in trading LMA.

First, no team is going to give much value to get him unless they're either in WIN IMMEDIATELY!!11!! mode (which I think only applies to BKN or MIA) or unless they think they have a good-to-lock chance of having his services past 2015. As I see it, that means a team located where he wants to live and/or a team that is now (and perennially) a contender. That seems to leave the Texas teams, OKC, LA teams, MIA and CHI as final destinations for him. Maaaaaaybe GSW, but I don't think so. I don't see LMA wanting to go to BKN/NYK.

Second, most of those teams who are contenders are probably not going to do challenge trades (my all-star for your all-star)...they're going to want to do 4-quarters-for-your-dollar trades. Complicating that is PA's supposed mandate that any trade of LMA right now makes us better--or, at the very least, keeps us about the same while severely increasing future, long-term assets. While there's plausibility to straight-ups like LMA for Love, Bosh, Griffin, B. Lopez, etc., I don't think those teams are willing to scrap what they've built for an unknown like bringing LMA in mid-season.

Third, not many of those teams have 4 quarters we want, even if PA would accept it. HOU doesn't. MM's idea of Asik/TJ/Parsons/2 1sts seems like simultaneously bad for us and too much from HOU's perspective. What, are we going to roll with a Lopez/Asik frontcourt with Robinson/Leonard/Freeland/Jones off the bench? Which two of our roster are you cutting to support his, Watson and ??? I don't think CHI does, because I don't get the vibe that they think Deng/Mirotic/few firsts is good value for LMA. If we could get Deng re-signed here, that wouldn't be horrible, and he's at least 85% of LMA and could probably keep us competitive as we stock up assets like Mirotic and CHA's first. But like I said, I don't know if CHI would do that. The GSW line of thinking, with Thompson and Lee, seems less legit, since LMA may not stay and while I really like Thompson, he's not a headliner (yet?)--and Lee's not going to help our defense much. The prize we'd be getting back would logjam the wings with Klay/Wes/CJ/Batum/Wright/ all fighting for 96 mpg, to say nothing of Crabbe/Claver/Barton.

That leaves the multi-team trades. HOU seems willing to give up Asik and parts. CHI willing to give up Boozer and parts (and maybe Deng). Who's looking to cut long-term salary? Who's "going for it" this year and needs frontcourt help? (Well, the Wiz and Knicks both qualify on both counts, but neither have many assets left over at all).

Is there a team who needs a defensive-minded big man (Asik) but will give up an offensive-minded one? (This is where DET might come in--would a package headlined by Asik and whatever parts HOU and POR can come up with bring back Drummond? Monroe?) MIL may be an opportunity here as well.

One thing that's been running through my mind is that, if we really want to go with this bombs-away offense, that it might be worthwhile to really go for it and see if the third team can bring back someone who's not necessarily an offensive-minded big man, but an all-star-level player at another position who's also looking for a new home? For instance, would BOS accept HOU's package to give us Rondo? (I don't love Rondo, but he's talented). Would NOP send Eric Gordon for Parsons and a first or two, and maybe filler from us (so that we end up with Asik, Gordon and maybe a first)?

As a tangent, if we are looking to no-kidding blow it up and make a splash in this year's draft, PHX, ORL, CLE (in addition to CHI, who owns CHA's top-10-protected pick, but unprotected in 2016) and BOS are all teams that have multiple extra 1sts in the next few years, but none of them are places on the LMA list and all of whom are rebuilding themselves.

This is an interesting proposal. At first look, why would we want a PG when we already have Lillard? Well, Rondo is more of a distributor and Lillard more of a scorer. Lillard played great off the ball with Eric Maynor last March. So, I think it would work offensively. Rondo is also a great defender and I think, like Gary Payton, he could effectively guard most SGs. So, I could see a Rondo/Lillard backcourt working.

However, giving up Aldridge for a guard would leave our already woefully thin front court even more depleted. So, while I'd be interested in the Rondo/Lillard experiment from an academic standpoint, I wouldn't give up Aldridge if Rondo was the main piece we got back.

That is an interesting idea!

Their skillsets mesh well together -- like the Philly backcourt of Iverson and Snow.

Rondo does make up for size with his freakish 6'10" wingspan. Though, he is coming back from an acl injury.

Honestly we dont' trade LMA unless were sucking and going to tank. I'd want promising talent and a lotto pick in the up coming draft. Thats not going to happen so it would be young talent but what is it going to take to get LMA? PA might be willing to go down with the ship and just not trade LA and hope to convince him to stay (He has been adamant about not wanting to rebuild) unless a team is willing to overpay for him with a trade like Klay/Barnes, or Beal/NeNe, Monroe/KPW, Valacunis/Ross, Butler/cha 1st/Mirotic/.

Rondo would be an interesting option. I think it would have to be a 3 way as I don't know if LA would resign there. But Rondo is not healthy so I'd want to see him back on the court in his old form first. We'd also have to look into his desire to be on the team there was always talk of him and Rivers/KG/Pierce clashing so we don't want to bring in a distraction. But when healthy Rondo is an amazing PG, his passing and especially his defense is just what this team could use.

This thread is moot though, since it seems Aldridge is happy. If we go on some 10 game losing streak, then I can see this becoming more relevant.

I have a hunch that some teams (Houston and GS) will be after him pretty hard by trade deadline.

Going after a player hard? Like what? Trade Aldridge for Howard? Because if you think going after him hard with Asik, and scraps is hardly hard enough. Lol

Boston without Rondo is a worse situation than Portland, in terms of LMA winning a title.

For Boston to jump on that it would need to be a 3 teamer with Wallaces contract leaving and a young talented player coming in as well as maybe a pick, they wouldn't want to keep LMA either.
A trade like http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mqc9wkb might work but i'm not a fan of eating Wallace's contract but the bulls are already getting raped in that trade so I doubt they would add in anything else and Boston wouldn't add anything to that trade either.

Edit- The more I look at the trade the crappier it becomes on pretty much every none Boston part and the Boston part is a pure salary dump pretty much.

In Brian's scenario, Aldridge wouldn't be going to Boston. It was a 3-team deal with Houston getting Aldridge, Portland getting Rondo and Boston getting young players and picks.
