Blazers Send:

Mo Williams
Thomas Robinson

Grizzlies Send:

Tony Allen
Trade Exception

Everyone agrees that Blazers must improve their defense, and the best on-ball defender in the league is Tony Allen. While I agree that we need more front-court depth than anything else, getting someone like Tony Allen makes us a real title contender.

This sort of hinges on the ability of CJ to come back from is injury. If we shipped Mo, we would def need his offense off the bench.

I also realize that Tony Allen, 31, just got a contract, and its for 4 years, but its still at a low $ amount. Also, trade would have to occur after Jan. 15.

The tough part of this trade will be to get Memphis ti agree to this trade.

Who will play backup PG? McCollum? If we move Mo we need a real PG coming back.

I doubt we move Mo since Olshey loves him and the team seems to like him too. Allen is a good player but he isn't worth blowing our 6th man and a young talent for... Especially with his contract and inability to hit an outshide shot.

We are already a true contender. No trades make sense when you have the most wins in the league. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I want Matthews out there at the end of games, not Tony Allen.

Last two minutes lineup

Lillard
Allen
Matthews
Batum
LMA

It'd be interesting. We need perimeter defense, but the offense is predicated around shooting, and Allen is terrible at that. And I doubt CJ will be playing PG at this point in his career, so Allen would take his minutes. A bench unit of Watson and Allen would be a nice defensive backcourt, but Portland might struggle to score.

We already have bench problems... This would kill us.

Allen can't shoot. Don't mess with success. Mo Williams is underrated. He's been huge for our success and his experience will come in handy in playoffs.

To be fair Allen is more playoff tested and proven. The guy has a ring and helped take the Grizzlies to the WCF. Ultimately I agree though... Mo is better for this team.

Hop on the Mirza Teletovic bandwagon.

How much does Allen have left in the tank? His DRtg the last six years has been an impressive 100, it's now 104. It's early though, I'll give him that.

He's 32 with three years left on this deal after this season.

Feels to me like we need a defensive minded shot blocker on the bench. The Bucks have both Larry Sanders and John Henson....I wonder how hard it would be to pry one of them away?

Larry Sanders is their future. No way they give him up.

If they were willing to trade him, i would trade our whole bench for him.

That's why your giving up a 31 year old and the 10th guy in your rotation for him

This. ^

Allen was a big part of Memphis success last year, but if he could have hit a few more open shots in that last playoff series they could have moved on. Wes may not be a great defender, but his shooting, plus his good defense makes him better IMO than Allen. At least for this team. He just would not get the minutes here in crunch time.

If you want to pipe dream, Thaddeus Young would be a great acquisition, he can defend and shoot. He has reportedly asked for a trade and is on the block.

Young and a 1st for for Batum and T-Rob?

My personal Pipe Dream is Aaron Afflalo

I wasn't implying Allen didn't have playoff experience. When I made that comment, I intended to defend Mo against the get rid of Mo campaign on that point. But sure, Tony Allen has more experience.

Our team would go down the toilet if we gave up Batum. I can't believe anyone would want to trade him. He's a top 5 SF in the entire league. 2nd best in the West.

Frankly, our two minute lineup should just be our starters. We do better IMHO when Robin is in there. That lineup is proven good.

No, Tony Allen contract is to big, it may prevent us from keeping our starters beyond next season.

I will admit that if it was a high first round draft pick this year, the trade proposal has a little more merit. I still would not do it, but it is not as crazy as I first thought.

Well, we don't really have the pieces to land a highly paid player without giving up a starter, because all of our bench players are on eco-contacts. So unless another team has a trade exception we can't do it. But if we did, we might be able to land some players from teams looking to cut cost like Deng or Chandler.

Why? Young is shooting 41% from 3pt range this year, which much higher than Batum. He's a very good defender, rebounder, gets steals...

Oh dear. Can he pass like Batum? Batum is leading our team in assists. Can he hit clutch threes and FTs? No, his team hardly ever wins. And I like Young. But our team is perfectly constructed right now. Don't change anything.

I don't think Batum is a good passer, he throws it away a lot. It's just that in this offense, he passes a lot more than he used to.

Why do you think the Nets are so eager to give up one of their few bright spots on the team this year?
