I don't start many threads. But this one seems to be needed. We have multiple "trade player" and "move this guy" even "Fire" coach and GM threads.
Something has caught my eye after reading multiple tweets by players including Damian Lillard about "loyalty" "NBA Family", "Staying true". Here is the thing. The Blazers have injuries yes BUT! The Blazers still have some players that could string together some wins BUT. To me it seems they have very little presence. Two fairly important pieces are pretty much guaranteed to be gone inside the next three weeks and that could include as many as 4 or 5 other players.
It's obvious this team is not together. They have no solid backbone. They have no family unity. They are living out the next month wondering what will happen and it's showing on the court. Afraid to get real close to each other because the NBA is indeed a "Business".
Fit and culture only take you so far. A person has got to feel secure in where they are sitting. The only person on the court right now that knows he will be here next month seems to be Dame. Of course he is playing like that.
You can dream up a thousand scenarios that will work with trade machine. People were totally in love with the moves Olshey made last summer. But in the end we all knew and were looking past the fact the Whiteside and Bazemore were basically filler pieces and moving them would probably include other players like Mario, Tolliver, maybe even CJ or Little, Skal, Simons? Building a team is tough. But having a revolving door is even tougher. These are people and they have the same basic needs as anyone else. I can only imagine what Hassan Whiteside is feeling when he gets thrown on the floor and players are slow to get there and help him up and not even pushing back against the player that did the throwing. Do you think on Nurks first game back if a player even so much as tries something like that what the response would be?
This is why i don't like picking up "Expiring" contracts and "One year rentals". They rarely work and do more damage to a season than they are worth. Now lets hope i'm wrong? Lets hope all this worthless basketball is worth the results? Right now it's hard to imagine.
