A mod should change the thread title. I have 2 friends that are cops and they are really good guys. Would never do any of the shit that is in this thread. The "yes every one" is bullshit & hypocritical.
I agree this thread title needs to be modified. It is offensive and insulting to the many good law enforcement people out there. I know a bunch of them.

There are people with the wrong demeanor/qualifications/skills in every profession, MDs, baristas, forum moderators, whatever..... but none more critical than the police. They need to be transparent and closely monitored to make sure they are doing the right things.

I would agree that the ACAB statement probably does more harm than good to the cause.

But freedom of speech is a wonderful thing.

Change the name to: Political correctness killed this thread.

Check out that doc….highly recommended.

This is funny. More and more people now saying what i said long ago, that got alot of pushback and dissension towards me….

at least the inconsistency is consistent….

I went through a strikingly similar incident about 15 years ago (on a Friday the 13th....of course). It was "sweeps night" and the guy came roaring up behind me, almost tailgating me and waiting for a "mistake". Apparently I "touched" the center line on a curve on Stafford Rd. Only they hauled me from Wilsonville (a mile from my home) back to Oregon City (from where I had been all evening, ironically enough). I "failed" the field sobriety tests (which are utter bullshit. I have since had several LEOs and court officials agree that they are too subjective and all told me that if I was ever again in a similar situation, to refuse the field tests and demand a breathalyzer). The officer was an incompetent boob, who threw me in the back of his car unbelted and then drove way over the speed limit, weaving all over the road (like a drunk!!) while he played with his dash mounted computer. When we got to the jail, he gave me a breathalyzer while his 800 mHz radio was on (despite the sign on the machine stating the radios must be turned off while testing, otherwise it would skew the results. I saw the sign immediately but kept my mouth shut. If he was that blind and stupid.....He then had to wait another 15-20 minutes to retest. Even his fellow deputies treated him like a dumbshit. I had had one beer much (much) earlier in the evening so I blew like a 0.01. So he tossed me in the drunk tank with about 20 obviously inebriated guys (who were all much younger) until 3 am, when they put me back on the street for my wife to come pick me up. They just wanted to fuck with me because, hey, they could! I wasn't charged (of course) but it cost me $400 in towing and "car retrieval" fees. It was all to meet a quota and I too considered filing suit, but lawyers cost money so I let it drop. But my already low opinion of Clackamas County cops was more than justified. I would be extremely surprised if that particular cop lasted much longer at his job (I have a sister in law who was an Assistant Deputy DA in Clackamas County who rattled a few cages with her old cronies, so I got some satisfaction for my $400.....)

@dviss1

lets talk serious for a moment.

we know how our phones and computers have algorithms to show us what they think we want to see. This is preventing us from seeing all sides or both sides more often than not because our searches are omitting things.

for example. I know i watched a video last year of some cops who pulled over and played with some kids. Good cops. Played hoops with the kids.
But when i search for “ cops pull over aNd play with kids” it doesn't show up for a couple pages. I get the opposite. Bad cop stories.
Do you think this something happening to you? Because the corps think you want to see and read about bad cops, thats all the access they give you? Is to stories of bad cops?

I found the video. I clicked on it. I watch it and them a couple other similar videos. i did the search again aNd wHat? Second from the top is a video of a cop pulling over and playing with a couple toddlers and their pedal car.

With all the directional/missinformation, do you think its possible there are good cops and that you are being denied the information due to the algorithms google and the like have created?

There is no doubt we need wholesale reform in recruitment, training and psychoanalysis of recruits, but not all cops are bad. I have personal first hand experiences telling me otherwise. Rare? Sure. But its not a 100% thing.
And before anyone says, if they were good, they would leave the force,

put yourself in thier shoes. If you truly wanted to do others good, would those morals outweigh the pressure to leave because the larger sect may be corrupt?

Sorry of it was me id remain a cop, not only to fight the internal issues of the police force but also to maintain my deeds of wanting to help others.

shits waaayyy too complicated to just say all cops are bad and when i hear that im going to push back, because i know first hand its not true.
For me, the real fight should be against large corp and the entities controlling our access to information.
We will never know who is truly good or bad until se make sure the news and information se receive is accurate, complete and all encompassing.
Currently we have none of this in our individual information flow and search for answers to our questions.

you hate cops so your feed is just gonna give you bad cop stories. Doesn't mean there aren't good cop stories as well. I think you may be being denied access to such stories.

Nobody thinks 100% of police are evil people. But they are all part of an evil system.

Giving one the benefit of the doubt only reduces the pressure to change. And the change HAS to come from the system, not the citizens.

Media reports what it wants to report. Just because those are the stories reported doesnt make the numbers reality on the streets.

Read the thread title again.

I never said all cops should have the benefit of the doubt, but they shouldn't all be prejudged guilty when many have never before been in a controversial incident.
How many bad cop police stories in the last 5 years. 1000? (Pulling that number out of my, but i bet its less)
How many cops in the nation? 100,000?( another numbers out of my ass, but i bet its much more)

I was addressing the thread title and how someone i respect can believe that every cop is bad(based on the thread title)

so in essence, both of you have just agreed with me.

Phatguy was trying to tell you what the title was inferring. Every cop is bad because they are part of a bad system. Some are corrupt, most others who aren't turn a blind eye to those who are. All of them are part of a system that is inherently biased against black people.

Like I said, giving even ONE the benefit of the doubt is counterproductive to what needs to happen.

Hence, ACAB.

Seems pretty consistent to me.

yeah. Not so much. Just read above and the go back to the beginning and see how it all played out. Not one person agreed with me. But now some are basically saying what i said when this thread was created.
ill go back to my hole of isolation now…

Nah, I've said all along that the ACAB movement is probably counterproductive. But, there is a systematic problem that individual police can't expect to duck the backlash of.

You're either part of of the problem or part of the solution.

Thanks for the support back when we were basically saying the same thing….
Also, you are but one of many here. ;)

Yeah, okay….
I guess you missed the part about reading on and seeing how it played out…
The quotes you posted already showed me and others stating my current position. Seems pretty straight forward and consistent. I'm not sure what else I'd be looking for. No point in beating a horse that died 18 months ago...

The drunk tank is a loop hole. Years ago, before cell phone cameras, I got "detained" but basically beat up by a cop for drinking a beer on the sidewalk outside of the bar. They only stopped when a crowd formed and one guy who had a camcorder started yelling that I was being "Rodney Kinged", I asked every office I came in contact with for the original officers information and was told it would be on the arresting report. At the drunk tank I was locked away for 4 hours, I asked for my phone call and was told that I was inebriated and don't know what I want and I don't get a call for drunk tank detention (I blew a .08 and was not driving, so buzzed but not drunk by any means) when I was finally released I asked for the report and was told there is no report because I was not arrested for anything. I asked again how I could know who the original officer was and they told me that they have no idea and I was handed off to a paddy wagon so there was no way for them to figure it out. Total fucking bullshit and a culture of machoism and protecting each other. To this day I have never looked at cops in the same way and I am suspect of every interaction I have with them.

Lol. Nice cop out. Read up or don't, but don't comment on it if your not gonna actually check it out. Thats shallow as F.

At any rate, some people treat one individual differently than others, even with the same stance. Double standards abound.
its not beating a dead horse if its an ongoing thing…

It’s still clear there is deflection to how some were treated early on in this thread vs others treated differently for having basically the same stance.
Some people are just never ever wrong… in their own mind…

Again read up or don't, but your rebuttal has no validity if you don't.
Moving on now. I said my peace…

Nice pun. Probably best to move on.

Interestingly, a couple of months after my experience there was an ad in the weekly Oregon City newspaper from a legal firm, asking anyone who had been a recent "guest" of the Clackamas County jail system to please give them a call. Kinda wish I'd followed up on that.....

https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/monitoring-group-chicago-police-officers-training/

The Chicago Use of Force Community Working Group monitored training at the city's new $170 million Police Academy. She says in addition to more training being needed on when or when not to point their guns, her group repeatedly heard veteran officers and recruits instructing the recruits that their lives were more important than the safety of the community.

"And the instructor said, 'Yeah, as much as we preach de-escalation and procedural justice, we've got to make split-second decisions - and the most important job is to go home," Winters said. "Again, it didn't say the most important part of job is saving lives."

I’m sure this is only Chicago, and not a nationwide thing…….
