D0n't you know that you can't have any actual business acumen here? You have to react in a knee-jerk emotional way!!!!!!!!!

Since when did business acumen entail potentially alienating your top talent?

I think trading LMA for a player with a shorter contract could be a good option if we are able to land Millsap.

I'd throw LMA/Rudy at Denver for 'Melo. It's a fair offer. Melo is an elite player with 3 years left on his deal. That fits this financial window the Blazers (or Vulcan) now have.

Hehe, definitely. I feel more and more like an outsider lately.
You shouldn't feel like an outsider. You realize it's only a couple of really outspoken people who are passionate about this and can't see both sides of the story. When Roy is extended this summer, you can just be thankful you didn't shave 5 years off your life stressing out or getting angry about it.

That's true. Thanks.

I don't follow every FA or anything, but how many actually plan ahead of time to make a statement on the matter? Shouldn't this stuff stay between player and team?

It seems like the only time a player plans to make a statement it usually ends up bad, either trade or injury or something.

Roy going public and making a statement is not a good thing.

Wow, that's a very emotional reaction. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to lose five years of my life by posting my interpretation of the available facts regarding the negotiations of Brandon Roy. What a weird post.

Worst case: Roy asks to be traded and we are fucked. :)

Roy going public and making a statement is not a good thing.

It's possible that the content of the statement will make us all soil our panties with fear. It may be that, in a game of hardball, Roy's Agent just told Roy to bean KP at the plate. There may be an ultimatum involved, and the publicity of the statement will only serve to swing public opinion deeper into the Roy/Roy's Agent camp, creating a situation among normal folk that rivals the frothiest of posts here on S2.

But you know what happened to the boy who suddenly got everything he always wanted? He lived happily ever after.

This public statement is probably intended to force KP to fish or cut bait. KP, knowing that he is mortal, and that 500,000 Portlanders (some of whom own guns and GPS units) see his life as intrinsically tied to Roy's happiness, will probably relent. But it will have been a hard negotiation. And the only collateral damage will have been the innocence of the Portland fans, for having seen how the sausage is made.

Come on now, it's all normal. There is nothing to read into the Blazers first All-NBA player in 16 years commenting in public about his frustration and disappointmet with the negotiating process. Put me on IGNORE!! :devilwink:

You were on my Ignore list long ago, for trying so fucking hard to be right. For getting people with gotcha's. And yes, you are belligerent about it. You push and prod and push and push until you get that admission. So here it is. I was wrong on something. There you go.

I WAS WRONG AND YOU WERE RIGHT.
I had taken you off ignore because I try to get over people's shitty posts occasionally, and turn over a new leaf. Now that I've satisfied you, I'm going to put you back on ignore, because you are pretty insufferable.

I'm not right. I just have an opinion. I hope I'm wrong on all of this, but the clock keeps ticking. I'm sorry if being confronted with facts makes you so angry you have to ignore the person who brings you those facts. Perhaps I need to be less blunt. The PMs I receive makes me defensive, as do posts that are prefaced with how the poster has already "ignored" me.

Best case: Roy comes out and says they've agreed to terms a long time ago, and were just pulling our strings.

Haha...right?

Roy is a cripple working with one knee who can't last five years, or six, but only five, or four. Haven't you heard the news? :ghoti:

I guess I'm referring to myself. When I get worked up about things, it causes stress, which has been documented to shorten ones life. I'm glad you won't lose that time off your life.

I'm sorry you thought my post was weird.

You're a week ahead of Canzano!

I wish that happened, but it looks like this thing is going to get strung out a few more weeks. Oh well, when we're title contenders in a couple years, I'll probably have forgot that it took a month to negotiate Roy's extension.

Why be sorry? I make my own weird posts at times. I wouldn't say they are fueled by stress, however. Roy not having an extension in principle 13 days into the period is actually news to me, and I didn't expect it. Did anyone expect it?

My buddy and I were talking about this in June and I assumed it would go into August. I personally thought it wouldn't even be discussed much until the FA stuff was taken care of. Knowing that they began talks right away, I'm a little surprised it's taken this long. I'm also surprised we haven't signed a FA yet.

I have a good feeling we'll get a solid player from out cap space and that Roy will be extended. I've never been so confident that LMA will get his extension, but I hope I'm wrong there.

You don't want Aldridge extended? Serious?

Yeah, I was wondering about that already today as it pertains to a Millsap signing.

No, I do. I'm not confident he'll get one this summer. I hope I'm wrong about him NOT getting one this summer.

Oh.

If Roy gets his extension, Aldridge's will follow suit.

You might be right. His agent might be making them a package deal and using this Roy outrage as his leverage. It would be a very wise move on his part.

Is this something new, or just an extension of what we found out from Friday's radio shows?
