Yep, the Nazis tried to kill them because they were too Nazi. Sarcasm is fun but loses some punch when it is profoundly stupid.

Can someone actually list some reasons why the Nazis wanted to kill the jews? I will admit my ignorance on what they actually said as I don't understand German.

One reason I remember is the Jews propensity to congregate into communities within themselves, as if to say "fuck you" to the rest of the people living in the region. That was one reasons Hitler used. Can't say I disagree with his issue there. Modern day Palestine seems to be a good example of how it can be a problem.

Although my memory of it isn't as clear (learning about it), I think some of it stemmed from the historical scape-goat that Jewish people have been, along with a dire need to blame someone for their (then) current situation.

They had gotten beaten in WW1, and were in an economic flux. So Hitler, along with others, decided to blame someone else for their problems instead of admitting they were in the wrong for the war and responsible for their own clusterfrick.

Jewish people, who were "not REAL Germans", were easy targets. And it didn't matter if those targeted were actually as much German as those who were targeting Jewish people.

The problem with saying that "Jews" gathered together and stay within communities amongst themselves is that EVERYONE does that. It's called being around those who you are comfortable with. But they made up a small portion of the population, and were an easy (repeatable) target. There may have been Jewish people with some money, but they didn't have power.

It's akin (although not nearly as severe) in the US, we've needed common enemies several times in our past. The government helps create the enemy, and we citizens eat it up like crazy. Be it Germans and Japanese during WW2 (although ironically, only Japanese-Americans were put in camps), the French when we get into a stupid war, and those damn dirty Mexicans whenever we need to be distracted from real problem. (Hey, let's build a fence!)

Jewish people (and Gypsies, gays, handicapped or those who didn't agree with the Government, and other powerless people) were easy targets. Some of them because of historical precedent (afterall, Jews killed Jesus), and others because they were a drag on the economy (those damn gays! They're...actually improving the odds of straight men getting women! er..I mean, they have butt sex! eww!)

Of course, it's more complicated than this. There's also a theory that suggests that Germany suffered through a "Brain drain" of sorts, with the earlier migrations to the US and their stock, so to speak, suffered because of the types of people who stayed behind in Germany. But I'm not sure how much of that theory has any validity in it. It seems to suggest that the smarter more logical thinking Germans skipped out on Germany well before this happened. Of course, my German ancestors came over from Germany well before this crap happened..so obviously it's true.

Also, I'm sure I'm missing some parts and not representing it as factual as some believe it happened or as factual as I should have, but I think it's pretty much the gist of it.

If someone feels they can provide a far better explanation (without basically calling me an idiot) please do so.

Last week I went to a holocaust speaker talk at my school, David Faber. He was in nine camps in 6 years. When he got out he weighed a healthy 72 pounds. It was pretty emotional to watch him talk. He actually had to hand poison over to Hitler himself and Hitler laughed at him.

Jews "congregated into communities" historically because they were legally confined to ghettos and to certain areas within a country. With the bourgeois-democratic revolutions, the ghettos were torn down and Jews entered mainstream society.

Actually, Germany's Jews were among the most assimilated in the world. The big majority considered themselves Germans, not Jews. About half married non-Jews. They were officers in the German military, editors of major German newspapers, did not speak Yiddish.

Yeah I mean that would be like a bunch of right wing, many avowedly racist like Rush Limbaugh, calling on people to bring semi-automatic assault rifles to democratic meanings while calling their opponents Nazi's. Doesn't make much sense does it?

I was highlighting the fact that it is those most like Nazi's in behavior and ideology (Hearkening back to a mythological pure white country of yesteryear, avowed racism, force ok to meet ends) that is calling their opponents nazi's. I'm not saying you personally believe in any of those things, but you might want to take a look at some of the outspoken "leaders" of the Repuglican party such as Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage who have VAST viewerships and ask yourself if you want to support a movement that inspires it's members to come to democratic meetings with assault rifles (Savage) and yearns for racial segregation (Limbaugh).

That's what is so damn annoying about people calling Obama a Nazi. It's clear the far right is more Nazi-like then anyone else in this country. Pot meet Kettle.

I personally am strongly against Obama's (the Legislature really and Bacchaus specifically) Health Care plan. However, there is no way in god's green earth that I would ever ally, or support in anyway, people who are taking Assault weapons to democratic meetings. I also think that the comparison of Obama to Hitler is so ludicrous it is beyond words. In Hitlers best period he was already using armed thugs regularly on political opponents and minorities and had violent rheotric at every turn. There is simply no comparison.

The comparison between Bush and Hitler was ridiculous, but had slightly more of a paralell if for no other reason then the Bush family's connection to Hitler through Union Banking Corporation with Prescott Bush in the 1930's and 40's where he banked with and hid the assets of Nazi industrialists such as Fritz Thyssen. That said Bush's security policies while having some passing resemblence to the enabling act (2006 defense authorization act, Patriot act I and II [was called something other the Patriot II) were really uncomparable to the horrors of the Nazi regime. The left should have warned against fascism without making that comparison as it was foolish and stupid.

Likewise it is even MORE foolish and stupid looking when the right does it now with a politically weak president who hasn't been able to get virtually anything done with a majority in both houses. I don't like Obama but the far right ideology in this country (increasingly seen as ok and mainstream) scares me to no end. I do not think anyone on this board supports that branch of their party, but I see too little denouncing of it as well.

This is what I thought too. After WWI, Germany went through a period of hyper-inflation (please correct me if I'm wrong). I think in economics class they showed pictures of people pulling around wagons of money that wasn't worth the paper it was printed on.
