I don’t think they would’ve made this move if they weren’t planning on using the spot immediately. They need a center. They’ve been playing Skal out of position and Whiteside only plays when he wants to.

Eh, I don’t think so. He was brought in more as a mentor and mid season spot minutes player. With the player most needing of guidance out for months, may as well just cut roster ties. No way Olshey thought the fossil that is Pau was ready to play early after foot surgery.

He was supposed to be cleared by the start of training camp to play though. There is no way they would've signed him with Nurk out if they knew 15 games into the season he would still be out. The mentor part of it can also be true too but they did expect him to give them some minutes with Nurk down. It became magnified when Collins got hurt.
